Success of photodynamic therapy in palliating patients with nonresectable cholangiocarcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis

To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on clinical outcomes of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in non-resectable *** studies compared outcomes with photodynamic therapy and biliary stenting (PDT group) vs biliary stenting only (BS group) in palliation of non-resectable cholangiocarcinoma. Articles were searched in MEDLINE, PubMed, and EMBASE. Pooled proportions were calculated using fixed and random effects model. Heterogeneity among studies was assessed using the I2 *** studies (n = 402) that met inclusion criteria were included in this analysis. The P for χ2 heterogeneity for all the pooled accuracy estimates was > 0.10. Pooled odds ratio for successful biliary drainage (decrease in bilirubin level > 50% within 7days after stenting) in PDT vs BS group was 4.39 (95%CI: 2.35-8.19). Survival period in PDT and BS groups were 413.04 d (95%CI: 349.54-476.54) and 183.41 (95%CI: 136.81-230.02) respectively. The change in Karnofsky performance scores after intervention in PDT and BS groups were +6.99 (95%CI: 4.15-9.82) and -3.93 (95%CI: -8.63-0.77) respectively. Odds ratio for post-intervention cholangitis in PDT vs BS group was 0.57 (95%CI: 0.35-0.94). In PDT group, 10.51% (95%CI: 6.94-14.72) had photosensitivity reactions that were self-limiting. Subgroup analysis of prospective studies showed similar results, except the incidence of cholangitis was comparable in both *** palliation of unresectable cholangiocarcinoma, PDT seems to be significantly superior to BS alone. PDT should be used as an adjunct to biliary stenting in these patients.

Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation of Alkali-Acid Pretreated Sugarcane Trash to Ethanol

The Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation （SSF） of alkali-acid pretreated sugarcane trash to ethanol was optimized using commercial cellulase and Saccharomyces cerevisiae TISTR 5596 cells. Substrate concentration （12.5% w/v, 15% w/v, 17.5% w/v and 20% w/v）, enzyme loading （25 FPU/g Dry Substrate （DS）, 50 FPU/g DS and 75 FPU/g DS）, and temperature （30 ~C, 35 ~C and 40 ~C） were evaluated. The SSF optimal conditions for alkali-acid pretreated sugarcane trash were 20% w/v of substrate concentration, enzyme loading 50 FPU/g DS, temperature 35 ~C, initial pH 5.0 and yeast inoculum 107 cells/mL. Under the above optimal conditions, ethanol concentration was possible to reach in the range between 50.14 g/L and 55.08 g/L at 96 hrs and 144 hrs, respectively. This study could establish the effective utilization of sugarcane trash for bioethanol production using optimized fermentation parameters.

目的:丙酮酸脱氢酶复合体(PDC)是位于线粒体的催化丙酮酸脱羧成乙酰辅酶A的复杂酶系。PDC介导一系列病理生理过程包括乳酸性酸中毒、高血压、肿瘤细胞突变等。目前尚不清楚PDC是否介导动脉粥样硬化的病理生理过程。动脉粥样硬化被认为是一种慢性炎症过程,其中NLRP3炎症小体起着重要的作用。本课题,我们探讨PDC对NLRP3炎症小体的活化及其随后在动脉粥样硬化的发生发展中所起的潜在作用。方法:实验分为四组:对照组、氧化低密度脂蛋白(OX-LDL)组、二氯乙酸钠(DCA)组和雷诺嗪组。细胞模型采用人单核细胞/巨噬细胞系THP 1细胞。用DCA(1 mM)或雷诺嗪(5μM)分别直接或间接地激活PDC。免疫印迹(Western blot)分析用来确定NLRP3和其下游蛋白半胱氨酸蛋白酶-1、白细胞介素(IL)-1β,和IL-18的蛋白表达水平。酶联免疫吸附试验(ELISA)用于确定释放到培养上清液中的IL-1β和IL-18。用共培养人脐静脉内皮细胞(HUVEC)和THP-1单核细胞的方法测定单核细胞向内皮细胞的黏附功能。结果:DCA,类似于Ox-LDL,增加了 NLRP3和其下游蛋白半胱氨酸蛋白酶-1、IL-1 β和IL-18蛋白表达量。IL-1 β和IL-18释放到上清液的量也随着DCA的处理而增加,表明在THP-1细胞,PDC可激活NLRP3炎症小体的活化。DCA所介导的PDC和NLRP3的活化可致单核细胞向内皮细胞的粘附功能增加,提示PDC的活化在动脉粥样硬化病理生理过程的起始阶段起着潜在的重要作用。然而,雷诺嗪作为间接的PDC激活剂,无论是免疫印迹还是酶联免疫吸附试验,均未发现NLRP3小体各组分的蛋白表达或其下游的细胞因子的释放的增加,单核细胞向内皮细胞粘附亦未见明显变化。结论:在THP-1细胞,DCA直接激活PDC可诱导NLRP3炎症小体的活化及单核细胞向内皮细胞的粘附功能增加。

The paper presents a universal fault diagnostic expert system frame work. The frame work is characterized by two basic features. The first includes a fault diagnostic strategy which utilizes the fault classification and checks knowledge about unit under test. The degree of accuracy to which faults are located is improved by using fault classification knowledge. The second characteristic is object oriented inference mechanism using message passing. Object orientation in inference mechanism improved inference efficiency. The developed framework demonstrates its effectiveness and superiority compared to earlier approaches using case studies.

Expedited extraction of xylan from corncob by power ultrasound

Some lignocellulosic biomass like corncob contains a large amount of xylan,a valuable material for applications in food,chemical and pharmaceutical *** extraction of xylan is a time consuming process,requiring 12 to 24 hours to *** this study,the efficacy of power ultrasound for reducing the extraction time and increasing the xylan yield was *** acoustic energy densities(0.18 W/mL and 0.45 W/mL)of the power ultrasound were applied to corncob for 10,20,30,and 60 *** treated samples were steamed at 110,118 and 121℃for 30 *** 0.45 W/mL acoustic energy density and 121℃steaming temperature,ultrasonic treatment was able to extract 39%of xylan in 43 *** contrast,the conventional treatment was able to extract only 34%of xylan in 24 *** ultrasound assisted extraction reduced the processing time by 97%in addition to yield increase by 14.7%.Power ultrasound can be a potential technology for enhanced xylan extraction from corncob to result in significant processing time savings.

In this study,we synthesized high-performance Carbon Fiber/Gold/Copper(CF/Au/Cu)composite wires by using a 2-step deposition method via sputtering and *** Au was sputtered on PANbased CFs as a pre-treatment,the wettability and surface reactivity of the CFs were improved,resulting in a homogeneous deposition of Cu on their *** different Cu electrodeposition time,the resulting CF/Au/Cu composite wires could possess a high strength of up to 3.27 GPa(~10 times stronger than copper wires)while their electrical conductivity could be as high as 4.4×10^5 S/cm(~75%of that for copper).More importantly,since the composite wires were lightweight(up to 70%lower than Cu mass density),they are a promising candidate to substitute conventional heavy metal wires in the future electrical applications.

A mathematical analysis has been carried out to investigate the effect of internal heat generation/absorption on steady two-dimensional radiative magnetohydrodynamics(MHD)boundary-layer flow of a viscous,incompressible nanofluid over a vertical plate.A system of governing nonlinear PDEs is converted into a set of nonlinear ODEs by suitable similarity transformations and then solved analytically using HAM and numerically by the fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme with shooting *** effects of different controlling parameters on the dimensionless velocity,temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles are discussed *** reduced Nusslet number and the local Sherwood number are *** is found that the nanosolid volume fraction profile decreases in the presence of heat generation and increases in the case of heat absorption and a reverse trend is observed in velocity *** excellent agreement is observed between present analytical and numerical ***,comparisons have been made with bench mark solutions for a special case and obtained a very good agreement.

An Existence Theorem of Solutions for the System of Generalized Vector Quasi-Variational-Like Inequalities

In this paper, we introduce and study the system of generalized vector quasi-variational-like inequalities in Hausdorff topological vector spaces, which include the system of vector quasi-variational-like inequalities, the system of vector variational-like inequalities, the system of vector quasi-variational inequalities, and several other systems as special cases. Moreover, a number of C-diagonal quasiconvexity properties are proposed for set-valued maps, which are natural generalizations of the g-diagonal quasiconvexity for real functions. Together with an application of continuous selection and fixed-point theorems, these conditions enable us to prove unified existence results of solutions for the system of generalized vector quasi-variational-like inequalities. The results of this paper can be seen as extensions and generalizations of several known results in the literature.
