Evaluating mechanism and inconsistencies in hydraulic conductivity of unsaturated soil using newly proposed biochar conductivity factor

In the past few decades,numerous studies have been conducted to promote the use of biochar as a soil amendment and most recently,for compacted geo-engineered *** general,the definite trends of biochar effects on water retention and fertility of soils have been ***,the biochar effects on hydraulic conductivity,particularly unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of soil-biochar mix remain unclear,making it difficult to understand water seepage in both agricultural and geo-engineered infrastructures in semi-arid *** study examines the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity function derived based on the measurements of soil water characteristic curves of soil with biochar contents of 0%,5%and 10%.A new parameter“biochar conductivity factor(BCF)”is proposed to evaluate the inconsistency in reported biochar effects on soil hydraulic conductivity and to interpret it from various mechanisms(inter-and intra-pore space filling,cracking,aggregation,bio-film formation and piping/internal erosion).The impact of biochar content on unsaturated hydraulic conductivity appears to reduce as the soil becomes drier with minimal effect in residual *** comparison of near-saturated hydraulic conductivity with test results in the literature showed that the BCF is generally higher for smaller ratio of sand to fine content(clay and silt).Moreover,the particle size of biochar may have significant influence on soil *** scope of research has been highlighted with respect to biochar production for its applications in agriculture and geo-environmental *** term effects such as root decay and growth,aggregation and nutrient supply need to be considered.

Assessing foundation behaviour under complex loading near tunnels

The stability of strip footings subjected to eccentrically inclined loads is critical for reliable foundation *** study investigates the effect of a circular unlined tunnel in a rock mass on the ultimate bearing capacity(UBC)of a foundation with width B under inclined and eccentric *** finite element limit analysis was employed to evaluate the reduction in UBC of the footing resting above a *** examined critical parameters include normalized load eccentricity(e/B),load inclination(β),and horizontal and vertical distances of the tunnel from the foundation(P/B and Q/B,respectively),along with rock mass *** results reveal that for e/B≥0.25 and≤60°,the reduction coefficient,Rc≥0.90,suggesting that the presence of a tunnel has a minimal impact on the load-bearing capacity of the footing,with failure primarily governed by load eccentricity and ***,potential failure mechanisms are explored,showing that at lower e/B,higherβ,and lower Q/B,the tunnel significantly affects footing's failure ***,at higher e/B and lowerβ,failure is due to rotational effects of footing,regardless of the tunnel's *** predict the Rc more accurately,due to the time-consuming nature of direct calculations,both MLR and ANN models were *** MLR model provided a baseline for comparison,while the ANN model,with a coefficient of determination(R2)of 0.98,demonstrated superior accuracy compared to the R2=0.96 of *** both approaches ensured robust and efficient predictions of *** Rc does not directly provide the reduced UBC of footing due to presence of tunnel,the study introduced bearing capacity factor(Nc)to enable direct calculation of the reduced UBC of *** findings offer theoretical guidelines for preliminary design and provide practitioners with an effective tool for evaluating UBC reduction in complex loading scenarios involving tunnels.

Crystal structure and luminescence dynamics of highly pure LiM(PO_(3))_(3):Eu^(3+)(M=Sr,Ca) red phosphors for white light emitting diodes

Highly pure red phosphors LiM(PO_(3))_(3):Eu^(3+)(M=Sr,Ca) doped with Eu^(3+)(1 mol%) were synthesized via solution combustion method and their crystal structure and luminescence dynamics were studied to explore its suitability in white light emitting *** Rietveld refinement analysis of the powder Xray diffraction patterns reveals that the phosphors belong to the pure triclinic phase of LiSr(PO_(3))_(3) and LiCa(PO_(3)) with space group P-1(2).The scanning electron microscopy images showed the agglomerated *** photoluminescence emission spectra under 393 nm show an orange band at 594 nm and a red band at 613 nm ascribed to ^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(1).^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(2) transitions of Eu^(3+)ion in both the ***,the spectroscopic properties such as luminescence behaviour,and Stark splitting were used to examine the symmetry of Eu^(3+)ions in LiM(PO_(3))_(3):Es^(3+)(M=Sr,Ca) phosphors in terms of distortion induced upon *** Stark splitting shows that the actual site symmetry for Eu^(3+)ion was estimated to be D_(2) type for both *** photometric properties of LiCa(PO_(3))_(3):Eu^(3+)such as Commission International de l'Eclairage coordinates(x=0.64,y=0.36) near to the standard one(red),high color purity(95%) and higher brightness reveal that the phosphor has the capability of acting as a red component in n-UV white light emitting diodes.

Objective:To assess efficacy of albendazole against Ascaris(A.)lumbricoides among school-children at three sites of Rajahmundry,Sundergarh and ***:Sites were selected based on soil-transmitted helminths prevalence,different sociocultural-geographical characteristics and operational feasibility.9-12 Years old children from 14 schools were *** study was conducted in two rounds:baseline&follow up *** eligible children found positive for *** at baseline were administered supervised single tablet albendazole 400 mg under the National Deworming Day *** post-treatment follow-up survey,eligible children who provided second stool sample were included in the final *** samples were examined using WHO recommended Kato-Katz *** was estimated based on cure rate(CR)and Fecal Egg Count Reduction Rate(FECRR)among children found positive in baseline and follow-up ***:328 Out of 625(52.5%)were found positive for *** in the baseline survey and 85 out of 178 samples(47.8%)during post-treatment follow-up ***,the estimated CR was 52.2%.FECRR(95%CI)for albendazole was 72.6%(79.2%-66.0%).The FECRR was highest in East Godaveri[89.7%(96.8%-82.6%)],followed by Sundergarh[86.4%(95.3%-77.5%)]and Wayanad[69%(81.7%-56.4%)].Conclusions:Our study confirmed overall reduction in FEC although with varying albendazole efficacy for *** infection at three different locations in ***,these finding may be assessed in context of ongoing MDA under Filaria control program and further studies by in vivo as well as in vitro methods are required to reach to a conclusion on possible resistance if any.

Synergistic effect of hybrid Himalayan Nettle/Bauhinia-vahlii fibers on physico-mechanical and sliding wear properties of epoxy composites

The cellulosic bast fibers are recognized as a justifiable and biodegradable substitute for producing moderate strength polymer composite materials because of their characteristics of renewability,ecofriendliness,and higher specific *** the aim of this research work is to fabricate Himalayan bast fibers(Nettle fiber(NF)/bauhinia vahlii fiber(BF)) based mono/hybrid epoxy composites at varying weight percentage of 2-6 wt% and evaluate the physical(void fraction and water absorption),mechanical(tensile strength,flexural strength,hardness) and sliding wear properties of as-fabricated *** 6 wt% NBF reinforced composites exhibited higher mechanical properties as compared to NF and BF composites with tensile strength of 34.04 MPa,flexural strength of 42.45 MPa,and hardness of 37.01 Hv *** influence of various control factors(sliding velocity,NF/BF/NBF contents,normal load and sliding distance) on specific sliding wear rate of composites was evaluated by Taguchi(three factors at three levels) experimental design and the percentage contribution of these selected parameters on sliding wear performance was examined by Analysis of variance(ANOVA).The sliding wear property of as-developed composites was found to be greatly influenced by sliding velocity and the wear resistance was observed to be improved with the NF/BF/NBF *** wear mechanism of the as-fabricated composites has been elucidated by scanning electron microscopy *** research outcomes demonstrated that the hybridization of Bauhinia vahlii fiber with Nettle fiber led to improve the mechanical and wear properties of epoxy composites.

MULTISTAGE FILTERS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF EUKARYOTIC PROTEIN CODING REGIONS

A class of multistage filters, namely, real narrowband bandpass filter （RNBPF） has been previously used for identification of protein coding regions. This filter passes the frequency component at 2π/3 along with its conjugate. This conjugate frequency compo- nent may degrade the identification accuracy. To improve the identification accuracy, two types of multistage filters are proposed in this paper. A complex narrowband bandpass filter （CNBPF） is proposed for suppressing the conjugate frequency component which, in turn, reduces the background noise present in the deoxyribonucleic acid （DNA） spec- trum and improves identification accuracy. By cascading RNBPF with moving average filter （RNBPFMA）, another type of multistage filter is proposed. As moving average filter smooth out the rapid variations in the DNA spectrum, RNBPFMA improves the identification accuracy. The computational complexity of RNBPFMA is less than that of CNBPF. The RNBPF and proposed multistage filters are compared with previously reported short-time discrete Fourier transform （ST-DFT） method in terms of compu- tational complexity. It is found that multistage filters reduce the computational load to a greater extent compared to ST-DFT method. The identification accuracy of the proposed CNBPF and RNBPFMA methods is compared with existing anti-notch filter and RNBPF methods. The results show that proposed methods outperform existing methods in terms of identification accuracy for benchmark data sets.

A multirate DSP structure for the identification of protein-coding regions

The identification of protein-coding regions in DNA sequence using digital signal process- ing methods is one of the central issues in bioinformatics. In this paper, a multirate struc- ture is proposed for the identification of protein-coding regions whose input sampling rate is same as output sampling rate. The multirate structure consists of cascade com- bination of decimation filter, kernel filter and interpolation filter. The decimation filter is a complex filter, the kernel filter is an FIR lowpass filter and the interpolation filter is a moving average filter. Polyphase decomposition is applied on both decimation filter and interpolation filter for computationally efficient implementation. The potential of the proposed method is evaluated in comparison with existing methods using standard datasets. The results show that the proposed method improves the identification accu- racy of protein-coding regions to a great extent compared to its counterparts.

With the growth of digital media data manipulation in today’s era due to the availability of readily handy tampering software,the authenticity of records is at high risk,especially in *** is a dire need to detect such problem and do the necessary *** this work,we propose an approach to detect the interframe video forgery utilizing the deep features obtained from the parallel deep neural network model and thorough analytical *** proposed approach only uses the deep features extracted from the CNN model and then applies the conventional mathematical approach to these features to find the forgery in the *** work calculates the correlation coefficient from the deep features of the adjacent frames rather than calculating directly from the *** divide the procedure of forgery detection into two phases–video forgery detection and video forgery *** video forgery detection,this approach detect input video is original or *** the video is not original,then the video is checked in the next phase,which is video forgery *** the video forgery classification,method review the forged video for insertion forgery,deletion forgery,and also again check for *** proposed work is generalized and it is tested on two different *** experimental results of our proposed model show that our approach can detect the forgery with the accuracy of 91%on VIFFD dataset,90%in TDTV dataset and classify the type of forgery–insertion and deletion with the accuracy of 82%on VIFFD dataset,86%on TDTV *** work can helps in the analysis of original and tempered video in various domain.

Thermo-mechanical and tribological properties of SU-8/h-BN composite with SN150/perfluoropolyether filler

In this study, SU-8 and its composites are fabricated by blending 10 wt.% hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) fillers with/without lubricants, such as 10 wt.% base oil(SN150) and 20 wt.% perfluoropolyether(PFPE). The thickness of SU-8 and its composites coating is fabricated in the range ~100–105 μm. Further, SU-8 and its composites are characterized by a 3D optical profilometer, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, a thermal gravimetric analyzer, a goniometer, a hardness tester, and an optical microscope. Under a tribology test performed at different normal loads of 2, 4, and 6 N and at a constant sliding speed of 0.28 m/s, the reduction in the initial and steady-state coefficient of friction is obtained to be ~0.08 and ~0.098, respectively, in comparison to SU-8(~0.42 and ~0.75), and the wear resistance is enhanced by more than 103 times that of pure SU-8. Moreover, the thermal stability is improved by ~80–120 ℃, and the hardness and elastic modulus by ~3 and ~2 times that of pure SU-8, respectively. The SU-8 composite reinforced with 10 wt.% h-BN and 20 wt.% PFPE demonstrated the best thermo-mechanical and tribological properties with a nano-textured surface of high hydrophobicity.
