Assessing the Viability of Gandhar Field in India’s Cambay Basin for CO_(2) Storage

Our research is centered on the Gandhar oil field, which was discovered in 1983, where daily oil production has declined significantly over the years. The primary objective was to evaluate the feasibility of carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) storage through its injection into the siliciclastic reservoirs of Ankleshwar Formation. We aimed to obtain high-resolution acoustic impedance data to estimate porosity employing model-based poststack seismic inversion. We conducted an analysis of the density and effective porosity in the target zone through geostatistical techniques and probabilistic neural networks. Simultaneously, the work also involved geomechanical analysis through the computation of pore pressure and fracture gradient using well-log data, geological information, and drilling events in the Gandhar field. Our investigation unveiled spatial variations in effective porosity within the Hazad Member of the Ankleshwar Formation, with an effective porosity exceeding 25% observed in several areas, which indicates the presence of well-connected pore spaces conducive to efficient CO_(2) migration. Geomechanical analysis showed that the vertical stress(Sv) ranged from 55 MPa to 57 MPa in Telwa and from 63.7 MPa to 67.7 MPa in Hazad Member. The pore pressure profile displayed variations along the stratigraphic sequence, with the shale zone, particularly in the Kanwa Formation, attaining the maximum pressure gradient(approximately 36 MPa). However, consistently low pore pressure values(30-34 MPa) considerably below the fracture gradient curves were observed in Hazad Member due to depletion. The results from our analysis provide valuable insights into shaping future field development strategies and exploration of the feasibility of CO_(2) sequestration in Gandhar Field.

BACKGROUND: Small-for-size syndrome is a widely recognized clinical complication after living donor liver transplantation or extended hepatectomy due to inadequate liver mass. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of splenectomy in rats after massive hepatectomy, a surrogate model of small-for-size graft. METHODS: Rats were divided into eight groups, each with 20 animals: 50% hepatectomy (50% Hx), 50% hepatectomy+ splenectomy (50% Hx+Sp), 60% Hx, 60% Hx+Sp, 70% Hx, 70% Hx+Sp, 90% Hx and 90% Hx+Sp. The following parameters were evaluated: liver function tests (ALT, AST and TBIL), liver regeneration ratio, DNA synthesis, proliferation cell nuclear antigen, hepatic oxygen delivery (HDO(2)) and hepatic oxygen consumption (HVO(2)). RESULTS: The liver regeneration ratio was enhanced in the Hx+Sp groups (P < 0.05). In addition, compared with the Hx groups, the Hx+Sp groups had better liver functions (P < 0.05). DNA synthesis and proliferation cell nuclear antigen were also increased in the Hx+Sp groups compared with the Hx groups (P < 0.05). Furthermore, in the Hx+Sp groups, HDO(2) and HVO(2) were increased over those in the Hx groups (P < 0.05), and were positively correlated with the liver regeneration ratio. CONCLUSIONS: Splenectomy significantly improved liver function, and enhanced DNA synthesis and proliferation cell nuclear antigen after massive hepatectomy in rats. This operation could be mediated through increased HDO(2), and HVO(2) which facilitate liver regeneration. (Hepatobiliary Pancreat Dis Int 2012;11:60-65)

We are currently faced with an aging population, which is rapidly growing worldwide. Two thirds of cancer occurs in the over 65-year age group. Societal conceptions from the past have created ageist stereotypes; old age is associated with frailty and the elderly are perceived to be destined for deterioration and loss of independence. Cancer within the elderly is also subject to these stereotypes, with elderly cancer patients considered by some not as likely to recover as younger patients with cancer. We summarise and review the current concerns regarding elderly management and treatments utilised for the management of oncological disease in the elderly, and discuss the impact of under-treatment within this population.

Models of circadian genetic oscillators involving interlinked feedback processes in molecular level genetic networks in Drosophila melanogaster and Neurospora crassa are studied, and mechanisms whereby synchronization can arise in an assembly of cells are examined. The individual subcellular circadian oscillatory processes are stochastic in nature due to the small numbers of molecules that are involved, and are subject to large fluctuations. The authors investigate and present the simulations of the stochastic dynamics of ensembles of clock-regulating proteins in different nuclei that communicate via ancillary small molecules, environmental parameters, additive cellular noise, or through diffusive processes. The results show that the emergence of collective oscillations is a macroscopic observable which has its origins in the microscopic coupling between distinct cellular oscillators.

We present a tensor-structured algorithm for efficient large-scale density functional theory(DFT)calculations by constructing a Tucker tensor basis that is adapted to the Kohn–Sham Hamiltonian and localized in *** proposed approach uses an additive separable approximation to the Kohn–Sham Hamiltonian and an L1 localization technique to generate the 1-D localized functions that constitute the Tucker tensor *** results show that the resulting Tucker tensor basis exhibits exponential convergence in the ground-state energy with increasing Tucker ***,the proposed tensor-structured algorithm demonstrated sub-quadratic scaling with system-size for both systems with and without a gap,and involving many thousands of *** reduced-order scaling has also resulted in the proposed approach outperforming plane-wave DFT implementation for systems beyond 2000 electrons.

Responses of global ocean circulation and temperature to freshwater runoff from major rivers were studied by blocking regional runoff in the global ocean general circulation model （OGCM） developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Runoff into the tropical Atlantic, the western North Pacific, and the Bay of Bengal and northern Arabian Sea were selectively blocked. The blocking of river runoff first resulted in a salinity increase near the river mouths （2 practical salinity units）. The saltier and, therefore, denser water was then transported to higher latitudes in the North Atlantic, North Pacific, and southern Indian Ocean by the mean currents. The subsequent density contrasts between northern and southern hemispheric oceans resulted in changes in major ocean currents. These anomalous ocean currents lead to significant temperature changes （I^C -2~C） by the resulting anomalous heat transports. The current and temperature anomalies created by the blocked river runoff propagated from one ocean basin to others via coastal and equatorial Kelvin waves. This study suggests that river runoff may be playing an important role in oceanic salinity, temperature, and circulations; and that partially or fully blocking major rivers to divert freshwater for societal purposes might significantly change ocean salinity, circulations, temperature, and atmospheric climate. Further studies are necessary to assess the role of river runoff in the coupled atmosphere-ocean system.

In this editorial,we comment on the article by Zhou et *** study reveals the connection between ferroptosis and pyroptosis and the effect of silent information regulator sirtuin 1(SIRT1)activation in acute liver failure(ALF).ALF is characterized by a sudden and severe liver injury resulting in significant hepatocyte damage,often posing a high risk of *** predominant form of hepatic cell death in ALF involves apoptosis,ferroptosis,autophagy,pyroptosis,and *** peroxidase 4(GPX4)inhibition sensitizes the cell to ferroptosis and triggers cell death,while Gasdermin D(GSDMD)is a mediator of *** study showed that ferroptosis and pyroptosis in ALF are regulated by blocking the p53/GPX4/GSDMD pathway,bridging the gap between the two *** inhibition of p53 elevates the levels of GPX4,reducing the levels of inflammatory and liver injury markers,ferroptotic events,and GSDMDN protein *** p53 expression and increased GPX4 on deletion of GSDMD indicated ferroptosis and pyroptosis ***1 is a NAD-dependent deacetylase,and its activation attenuates liver injury and inflammation,accompanied by reduced ferroptosis and pyroptosis-related proteins in ***1 activation also inhibits the p53/GPX4/GSDMD axis by inducing p53 acetylation,attenuating LPS/D-GalN-induced ALF.

Satluj Valley is known to have a history of landslides and related mass movement activities since the geological times. Geological and geomorphological settings combined with anthropogenic activities constitute a propensity towards slope failure. During the last two decades,the area witnessed substantial increase in athropogenic pressure,mainly due to the exploitation of hydropower potential,changing landuse pattern and population growth. In addition,a shift of the climatic patterns in the form of larger area falling under the influence of rains was observed. These natural as well as anthropogenic changes in the area have resulted in increased spatial coverage of landslide in the area. This paper documents these changes during 1990～2006.

Globally,cervical cancer(CxCa)ranks 4th common cancer among females and led to 569,847 incidences and 311,365 deaths in 2018.80%of CxCa cases occur due to persistent infection with a high-risk subtype of human papillomavirus(HPV-16 and 18).Smoking,high par-ity,and co-infection with type 2 herpes simplex or HIV are other known risk factors for *** histological subtypes are squamous(70%)and adenocarcinoma(25%).Presently,concur-rent radiation plus cisplatin(CDDP)-based chemotherapy is the standard treatment for CxCa ***,CDDP resistance and toxic side effects limit its efficacy,leading to a poorer response rate and an expected overall survival ranging from 10 to 17.5 *** drug uptake,increased DNA damage repair,increased CDDP inactivation,and overexpressed Bcl-2 or caspase inhibition,are primarily accountable mechanisms for CDDP resistance and improving CDDP’s efficacy remains the major ***(ADP-ribosyl)polymerase-1,an effective mediator of nucleotide excision repair pathway,is involved in DNA repair as well as maintaining genomic stability and is significantly expressed in malignant lymphomas,hepa-tocellular-,cervical-and colorectal carcinoma,which has been approved effective in mainte-nance therapy and may serve as an effective target to enhance CDDP sensitivity in ***,we summarize the etiology and epidemiology of and treatment for CxCa,the mechanism responsible for chemotherapy resistance,PARP inhibitor as a possible therapy for CxCa,and other possible chemotherapeutic options for CxCa treatment.
