Objective:The objective of the study was to compare the outcome of tunica albuginea urethroplasty(TAU)and buccal mucosa graft(BMG)urethroplasty for anterior urethral stricture.Methods:Thirty patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomised into two groups:TAU(Group A)and BMG urethroplasty(Group B).Surgical outcome was evaluated with pre-and post-operative work-up involving retrograde urethrogram,voiding cystourethrogram,uroflowmetry,and urethroscopy.Patients were followed up till 1 year.Results:Mean duration of surgery was statistically significant between two groups(p=0.0005).Maximum urine flow rate was comparable when compared between two groups(p=0.22)but statistically significant when compared pre-and post-operatively(p<0.001).At follow-up of 1 year,the successful outcomes were 80% in Group A and 87%in Group B.A total of five patients who had unsuccessful results required redo urethroplasty.Complications were minimal in both the groups.Conclusion:TAU provides outcomes equivalent to those of BMG urethroplasty.TAU has less operative time,easy to perform,and beneficial in patients with poor oral hygiene.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease,a rare form of necrotizing lymphadenitis,is an uncommon,benign,self-limiting disorder of obscure etiology.It affects mostly young adults of both genders.Clinically,it presents with fever and lymphadenopathy of a firm to rubbery consistency frequently involving cervical lymph nodes while weight loss,splenomegaly,leucopenia,and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate feature in severely affected patients.Cutaneous involvement occurs in about 30%-40%of cases as facial erythema and nonspecific erythematous papules,plaques,acneiform or morbilliform lesions of great histologic heterogeneity.Both Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease and systemic lupus erythematosus share an obscure and complex relationship as systemic lupus erythematosus may occasionally precede,develop subsequently,or sometimes be associated concurrently with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.It is often mistaken for non-Hodgkin lymphoma while lupus lymphadenitis,cat-scratch disease,Sweet’s syndrome,Still’s disease,drug eruptions,infectious mononucleosis,and viral or tubercular lymphadenitis are other common differentials.Fine needle aspiration cytology mostly has features of nonspecific reactive lymphadenitis and immunohistochemistry studies usually show variable features of uncertain diagnostic value.Since its diagnosis is exclusively from histopathology,it needs to be evaluated more carefully;an early lymph node biopsy will obviate the need for unnecessary investigations and therapeutic trials.Its treatment with systemic corticosteroids,hydroxychloroquine,or antimicrobial agents mostly remains empirical.The article reviews clinicoepidemiological,diagnostic,and management aspects of KFD from the perspective of practicing clinicians.

In this paper,we emphasize on a nondifferentiable minimax fractional programming(NMFP)problem and obtain appropriate duality results for higher-order dual model under higher-order B-(p,r)-invex functions.We provide a nontrivial illustration of a function which belongs to the class of higher-order B-(p,r)-invex but not in the class of second-order B-(p,r)-invex functions already existing in literature.An example of finding a minimax solution of NMFP problem by using higher-order B-(p,r)-invex functions has also been given.Various known results are discussed as particular cases.

Development and characterization of SSR markers in Himalayan species Betula utilis

Betula utilis D.Don.is an important species of alpine Himalaya and forms the major treeline component of western Himalaya.The different populations of B.utilis are declining and are under high risk.In the present study,novel expressed sequence tag-simple sequence repeat(EST-SSR)primers were developed from expressed sequence tag(EST)data of different Betula species.Of the10,796 designed primers,the percentages of di-,tri-,tetra-,penta-,and hexa-repeats were 36%,35%,15%,5.5%and7.7%,respectively.For validation,50 primers were synthesized randomly and were characterized in 20 different B.utilis accessions from north-western Himalaya.Of these,45 primers amplified fragments in a range of 1-6.The 24 polymorphic primers produced 111 fragments in aggregate with 4.6 fragments on average.Polymorphism information content(PIC)ranged from 0.288 in marker BUMS-24 to 0.497 in BUMS-3 and BUMS-7,with an average of 0.447 among polymorphic markers.Dendrogram based on Jaccard’s similarity coefficient and UPGMA method showed that newly developed SSR markers distinguished twenty accessions of B.utilis into two groups.As no SSR markers were available in this species,the newly developed markers will foster molecular genetics research and conservation efforts for this species.

Effect of Applied Phosphorus on the Yield and Nutrient Uptake by Soybean Cultivars on Acidic Hill Soil

In a three years experiment, conducted on acidic soil, four varieties of soybean [Glycine max (L) Merril] were tested to see their performance under different regimes of applied Phosphorus. The highest number of pods was given by the cultivar Bragg, followed by Punjab-1, Durga and JS-89-21. A similar trend was observed in the number of filled pods. On an average, the cultivar, Punjab-1, gave the maximum harvest index, followed closely by Bragg. Both the cultivars, Durga and JS-89-21, had lower harvest index. The application of P fertilizer significantly increased the harvest index up to 60 kg·P·ha–1. The Highest yield of grains was given by the variety ‘Bragg’ (1630 kg·ha–1), followed by Punjab-1, JS-89-21 and Durga, which gave the yields of 1510, 1470 and 880 kg·ha–1, respectively. Highest N, P and K removal was found by the cultivar Bragg, followed by Punjab-1, JS-89-21 and Durga cultivars. The uptake of nutrients was significantly related to the total biomass produced by a cultivar (r = 0.8125), showing a yield predictability of 66.0%. The increase in uptake of N, P and K, respectively, with the application of 60 kg·P·ha–1 over no P was;245.3, 159.4 and 158.3% in case of Bragg, 101.5%, 73.8% and 44.6% in case of Durga, 182.2%, 70.6% and 63.8% in case of JS-89-21 and 164.7%, 80.0% and 97.4% in case of Punjab-1. A significant increase in soil available P was found in the plots where it was applied @ 60 kg·ha–1 continuously for three years.

In this paper,we introduce a modified family of distributions that unifies three different families with only one tuning parameter;the so-called exp-G,Topp–Leone-G and exp-half-G families of distributions.We study mathematical properties of the proposed family,including linear representations,quantile function,probability weighted moments,reliability parameter and stochastic ordering.One of the corresponding parametric statistical model is outlined,with estimation of the parameters by the method of maximum likelihood and investigation for possible applications to glycosaminoglycans concentration level in urine over the beta Weibull and Kumaraswamy Weibull distributions.The goodness-of-fit of five other members of the family is also assessed.Regression model is also discussed using the proposed distribution and applied to establish the relationship between the glycosaminoglycans concentration level and age of the children.

目的:检测南欧派利吞草石油醚提取物(petroleum ether extract,PEE)对雄性大鼠性行为的影响。方法:制备南欧派利吞草PEE。32只雄性Wistar大鼠分成对照组、睾酮组、低剂量PEE组和高剂量PEE组,每组8只。对照组大鼠灌胃花生油(溶剂对照),睾酮组大鼠肌肉注射0.5mg/kg睾酮,每周2次,低剂量和高剂量PEE组大鼠分别灌胃50和100mg/kgPEE,治疗持续28d。于治疗前,治疗第15天、第28天和治疗后第7天、第15天,检测大鼠体质量,治疗结束后,取4只大鼠性器官(睾丸、附睾、精囊、前列腺)称取质量,其余4只大鼠用于检测大鼠的性取向行为和性功能。结果:与对照组大鼠比较,PEE治疗28d可明显增加雄性大鼠的体质量和性器官质量,雄性大鼠易于接受雌性大鼠和对雌性大鼠趋向性增加,雄性大鼠性能力增加,表现为舔、嗅雌性大鼠肛门和生殖器,阴茎勃起指数增加,交配潜伏期缩短,交配频率增加。在PEE治疗结束后7和15d仍观察到以上行为和性指标的变化。结论:与睾酮不同的是,PEE治疗结束后7和15d仍可见明显治疗效果,提示南欧派利吞草能提高大鼠性潜能,并有延迟效应。

大花菟丝子是一种金黄色、无叶、多年生寄生草本植物,它隶属于旋花科,俗称发菜、鬼肠等。经研究,大花菟丝子具有止痉、抗惊厥、抗类固醇生成、降血压、助肌肉松弛、强心、利尿、抗病毒、抗菌、抗氧化以及助毛发生长等一系列药用作用。目前从大花菟丝子中提取的有效化学成分有岩白菜素、阿马别林、β-谷甾醇、豆甾醇、山奈酚、半乳糖醇、杨梅酮、槲皮素、香豆素和齐墩果酸等。本文概述了生药学和植物化学文献中有关大花菟丝子的研究结果,并从传统医学和生物学角度评价了它的医药用途。
