Climate change is increasing the frequency of extreme heat events that aggravate its negative impact on plant development and agricultural *** experiments designed to study plant adaption to heat stress apply homogeneous high temperatures to both shoot and ***,this treatment does not mimic the conditions in natural fields,where roots grow in a dark environment with a descending temperature *** high temperatures severely decrease cell division in the root meristem,compromising root growth,while increasing the division of quiescent center cells,likely in an attempt to maintain the stem cell niche under such harsh ***,we engineered the TGRooZ,a device that generates a temperature gradient for in vitro or greenhouse growth *** root systems of plants exposed to high shoot temperatures but cultivated in theTGRooZ grow efficiently and maintain their functionality to sustain proper shoot growth and ***,gene expression and rhizosphere or root microbiomecomposition are significantly less affected in TGRooZ-grown roots than in high-temperature-grown roots,correlating with higher root *** data indicate that use of the TGRooZ in heat-stress studies can improve our knowledge of plant response to high temperatures,demonstrating its applicability from laboratory studies to the field.

A Systematic Review of Heavy Metals in Irrigation Water and Their Effects on Agricultural Soil Quality and Crop Production in Ghana

This study examines the impacts of heavy metals in irrigation water on soil quality and crop productivity in Ghana. Data was synthesized from 41 studies across 10 study areas spanning seven regions in Ghana. 10 heavy metals were identified from the synthetized data, namely, cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe) and chromium (Cr). The synthesized data revealed that certain regions such as Upper East, Ashanti and Ahafo exhibits elevated cadmium level in soil and the western region showed high concentrations of Hg, As, Pb, and Cu exceeding WHO limits in irrigation water. Due to their economic importance and susceptibility to metal contamination, the analysis of the effects of these metals on crop productivity focused on maize and leafy vegetables. The findings show that metals such as As, Ni, and Cu, in irrigation water significantly affect soil metal concentration but do not affect crop productivity, but Hg, Zn, Pb, and Co rather influence crop yield. Interestingly, while Hg and Pb reduce yield in leafy vegetables, they positively affect maize productivity, highlighting the potential for tailored crop selection based on soil metal concentration to improve Agricultural outcomes.

The emerging role of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles to ameliorate hippocampal NLRP3 inflammation induced by binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescence

Our previous studies have reported that activation of the NLRP3(NOD-,LRR-and pyrin domain-containing protein 3)-inflammasome complex in ethanol-treated astrocytes and chronic alcohol-fed mice could be associated with neuroinflammation and brain *** stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles(MSC-EVs)have been shown to restore the neuroinflammatory response,along with myelin and synaptic structural alterations in the prefrontal cortex,and alleviate cognitive and memory dysfunctions induced by binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescent *** the therapeutic role of the molecules contained in mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles,the present study analyzed whether the administration of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles isolated from adipose tissue,which inhibited the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome,was capable of reducing hippocampal neuroinflammation in adolescent mice treated with binge *** demonstrated that the administration of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles ameliorated the activation of the hippocampal NLRP3 inflammasome complex and other NLRs inflammasomes(e.g.,pyrin domain-containing 1,caspase recruitment domain-containing 4,and absent in melanoma 2,as well as the alterations in inflammatory genes(interleukin-1β,interleukin-18,inducible nitric oxide synthase,nuclear factor-kappa B,monocyte chemoattractant protein-1,and C–X3–C motif chemokine ligand 1)and miRNAs(miR-21a-5p,miR-146a-5p,and miR-141-5p)induced by binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescent *** analysis further revealed the involvement of miR-21a-5p and miR-146a-5p with inflammatory target genes and NOD-like receptor signaling *** together,these findings provide novel evidence of the therapeutic potential of MSC-derived EVs to ameliorate the hippocampal neuroinflammatory response associated with NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by binge drinking in adolescence.

Proton pump inhibitors and all-cause mortality risk among cancer patients

Epidemiological data on acupuncture and physical and rehabilitation medicine in the European Union

OBJETIVE: To know the prevalence of acupuncturists within physical and rehabilitation medicine specialists in Europe and their characteristics,as well as to analyze the pathologies treated and therapeutic techniques ***: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study based on a structured and closed questionnaire. The study was carried out from October 2011 to May ***: A total of 115 specialists from 19 countries completed the questionnaire. The mean characteristics of the physical and rehabilitation medicine(PRM) specialists who are also acupuncturists in Europe were: women(62.6 %); mean age of47.91 years old; 4.20 years of physical and rehabilitation medicine school and 2.00 years of acupuncture training; 15.03 years of mean time of clinical practice as physical and rehabilitation medicine specialists and 10.42 years of experience as acupuncturists; 35.65 % had a doctorate(Ph D) degree,obtained at a mean age of 33.55 years old; working in a public hospital(80%); treating mainly neurological conditions(48.1%) and using mainly techniques such as kinesiotherapy(11.81%),orthosis(10.40%) and electrotherapy(9.92%). Acupuncture was applied by 32.2% of the participants mainly in musculoskeletal conditions(27.38%). A mean number of more than 20 patients a day were treated by47.04% of the specialists,being 41.8% of the patients(adults and children). Significant differences were found between the variables,acupuncture and gender(Pearson's correlation Index = 0.007).However,no differences were observed in relation to acupuncture and age,doctorate degree,years of clinical practice and workplace(all with P values >0.05).CONCLUSION: In the European area,physical and rehabilitation medicine specialists who are also acupuncturists are mainly female,middle-aged,with15 years of professional experience,Ph D holders,working in public hospitals,treating mainly neurological conditions with kinesiotherapy and acupuncture,and treating over 20 patients a day(adults and child

Pyonephrosis as a sign of sarcomatoid carcinoma of the renal pelvis

We report the case of an urgent nephrectomy because of a pyonephrosis and sepsis due to an unsuspected sarcomatoid transitional cell carcinoma, an infrequent subtype with a bad oncological prognosis. We present a 58-year-old man assessed by internal medicine for a general syndrome and weakness many months previously. A pyonephrotic kidney was observed at abdominal computed tomography in the context of septic shock, without suspecting the underlying cause. The pathology report described a sarcomatoid transitional cell carcinoma. Sarcomatoid transitional cell carcinoma is an invasive and infrequent subtype of urothelial tumors. The symptoms are often the same as other renal masses; however, in this case, sepsis and pyonephrosis were the rare initial symptoms.

本研究旨在修订发展危机问卷(Developmental Crisis Questionnaire,DCQ),并在成年群体中检验其信度和效度。研究首先通过项目分析和探索性因素分析确定中文版DCQ题目,用验证性因素分析确定其结构,最后进行问卷的信效度检验。结果表明中文版DCQ 10个条目具有良好的区分度,探索性和验证性因素分析结果均支持三因子结构,量表的信效度符合测量学要求。修订后中文版DCQ符合测量学标准,可作为测量我国成年人发展危机的可靠工具。
