The new coronavirus(COVID-19),declared by the World Health Organization as a pandemic,has inf.cted more than 1 million people and killed more than 50 *** inf.ction caused by COVID-19 can develop into pneumonia,which can be detected by a chest X-ray exam and should be treated *** this work,we propose an automatic detection method f.r COVID-19 inf.ction based on chest X-ray *** datasets constructed f.r this study are composed of.94 X-ray images of.patients diagnosed with coronavirus and 194 X-ray images of.healthy *** f.w images of.patients with COVID-19 are publicly available,we apply the concept of.transf.r learning f.r this *** use dif.erent architectures of.convolutional neural networks(CNNs)trained on Image Net,and adapt them to behave as f.ature extractors f.r the X-ray ***,the CNNs are combined with consolidated machine learning methods,such as k-Nearest Neighbor,Bayes,Random f.rest,multilayer perceptron(MLP),and support vector machine(SVM).The results show that,f.r one of.the datasets,the extractor-classif.er pair with the best perf.rmance is the Mobile Net architecture with the SVM classif.er using a linear kernel,which achieves an accuracy and an f.-score of.98.5%.f.r the other dataset,the best pair is Dense Net201 with MLP,achieving an accuracy and an f.-score of.95.6%.Thus,the proposed approach demonstrates ef.iciency in detecting COVID-19 in X-ray images.

The Phytochemical investigation on MeOH extract on the bark of.Aristolochia brasiliensis Mart.&Zucc(Aristolochi-aceae)led to the isolation of.major compound(1)as light brown grainy *** compound was identif.ed as 1-(4-hydroxybenzyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline-6,7-diol(higenamine)on the basis of.spectroscopic analysis,including 1D and 2D NMR *** compound was evaluated f.r its antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium indicus pranii(MIP),using Galleria mellonella larva as an in vivo inf.ction *** survival of.MIP inf.cted larvae af.er a single dose treatment of.100 mg/kg body weight of.higenamine was 80%af.er 24 *** the compound exhibited a dose dependent activity,as evidenced by the reduction of.colony density f.om 10^(5) to 10^(3) Cf. f.r test concentrations of.50,100,150 and 200 mg/kg body weight *** IC50 value f.r higenamine was 161.6 mg/kg body weight as calculated f.om a calibration *** analysis showed that,a complete inhibition of.MIP in the *** could be achieved at 334 mg/kg body *** the f.ct that MIP has been f.und to be highly resistant against isoniazid(INH)in an in vitro assay model,in this study the microbe was highly susceptible to this standard anti-TB *** isolation of.higenamine f.om the genus Aristolochia and the method used to evaluate its in vivo antimycobacterial activity in *** are herein reported f.r the f.rst time.

As a f.llow-up to our previous study on the transesterif.cation of.Nigerian Jatropha curcas oil into Biodiesel using homogenous catalysis, kinetic study of.the reaction is hereby presented. The kinetic study revealed that the rate of.f.rmation of.biodiesel can be increased by increasing reaction temperature and oil to alcohol molar ratio. The optimum reaction condition was established to be 60°C (reaction temperature) and 1:6 (oil to alcohol ratio). Accordingly, the highest biodiesel yield obtained f.om homogeneously catalyzed transesterif.cation of.Nigerian Jatropha curcas (JC) oil into Biodiesel was 86.61% w/w at 60°C with oil to alcohol ratio of.1:6. f.rthermore, kinetic study also revealed that conversion of.triglyceride to diglyceride was the rate determining step (RDS) of.the overall reaction because activation energy of.its backward reaction is lower than that of.the f.rward reaction, indicating unstable nature and higher potential energy of.the diglyceride in comparison to the triglyceride.

Background: The lives of.patients living with HIV/AIDs have improved in terms of.longer lif. expectancy and quality. This has seen the emergence of.complications of.the disease and the drugs such as metabolic syndrome and re-emergence of.tuberculosis. Co-inf.ction with other viruses especially the hepatic viruses has also become a major source of.concern. The aim of.this research is to determine the incidence of.hepatitis B and E among this group of.patients. Methods and f.ndings: Blood samples were collected f.om 156 consecutive HIV positive patients on HAART, inf.rmed consent having been obtained previously. The patients were screened both f.r hepatitis B and E using standard procedures. A questionnaire was administered to all participants. The results are illustrated with tables f.llowing analysis with SPSS version 10. It was f.und that 24.5% were positive f.r hepatitis E while 7.8% were positive f.r hepatitis B. It was also f.und that educational status was the only statistical signif.cant variable f.r HEV co-inf.ction. Taking the value of.alanine transaminase to be 12 U/L as upper limit of.normal, the mean value f.r HEV positive patients obtained was 13.8U/L while f.r those HBV positive was 10U/L. Conclusion: f.om the f.ndings, more emphasis should be placed on improving education of.the populace. More research should be carried out to determine what subtypes of.the viruses are present and their ef.ects on the hepatic system using pref.rably non-invasive techniques. Also the variability of.hepatic enzymatic activity needs more analysis.

The essential elements of.the rape crime are sexual penetration, f.rce, and the lack of.consent. The prevalence of.rape worldwide has been reported to be a staggering 20%. In Nigeria, most victims of.rape will elect to remain silent about the experience, because of.stigmatization leading to under reporting of.the crime. This study was aimed at elucidating the perception of.rape and determining its prevalence and predictors among f.male undergraduates in a tertiary institution in South Eastern Nigeria. This was a descriptive cross sectional study in which self.administered questionnaires were used to collect relevant data f.om 280 f.male undergraduates of.UNIZIK Okof.a Nnewi Campus, Nigeria, selected by cluster sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package f.r Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine associations and identif. independent predictors of.rape respectively. The level of.signif.cance was set at p f.male students had a good knowledge and the perception of.rape and that some had f.llen victims (16.4%). Acquaintance rape was markedly common (p f. campus (p f.male students, of.en the party going (p f.cantly more likely to become victims of.rape than those married, on campus and non-party-going counterparts. Also, students who attended single gender schools (p rape than those counterparts who attended co-educational colleges. Awareness campaigns through peer education, introduction of.sexuality education in the school curriculum and establishment of.school health programmes are highly recommended.
