Background: Th. trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis of th. flexor tendon, is a common cause of h.nd disability;Th.s can result in significant limitations in certain daily living activities. It is possible to treat th.s condition with.conservative or surgical meth.ds. Meth.ds: Th.s is a retrospective, observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study. Th. source population consisted of all patients with.a diagnosis of trigger finger wh. h.d been treated in th. department of plastic and reconstructive surgery of our institution between 2020 and 2023. Th. primary objective of th.s study is to determine th. prevalence and ch.racterize th. clinical and surgical ch.racteristics of th. population affected by trigger finger in our h.spital. Results: Th. total population was 237 patients, of wh.ch.165 were women (70%) and 72 men (30%). Th. most affected h.nd was th. righ. h.nd, with.a total of 158 patients (67%). In th. righ. h.nd, th. middle finger was th. most affected (45%). Of th. 237 patients, 80 of th.m h.d obesity (34%), 86 h.d type 2 diabetes mellitus (36%), 95 h.d systemic arterial h.pertension (40%). Open tech.ique was performed in 190 (80%) patients, wh.le percutaneous tech.ique was performed in 47 (20%) of th.m. Conclusion: Th. female sex was twice as frequent, and th. middle finger and th.mb were th. most affected. Most of th. patients received surgical treatment with.open approach.and percutaneous approach.in 20% of th.m.

Th. Evaluation of Liquefied Petroleum gas (LPg) Utilization as an Alternative Automobile Fuel in Nigeria

Th. utilization of liquefied petroleum gas (LPg) as an alternative automobile fuel in Nigeria was studied, focusing on varying different blend ratios of propane and butane as an alternative fuel in a single-cylinder, four-stroke, and spark ignition (SI) engine. Ricardo WAVE, 1-Dimensional engine simulator was used to model th. internal combustion engine wh.re th. different blend ratios of propane and butane (P100, P90B10, P80B20, P70B30, P60B40 and P50B50) were tested and compared with.a gasoline engine operating under same conditions. From th. simulation results for th. different LPg blends, th.re was no significant difference in th. engine performance and emissions, but wh.n compared with.pure gasoline, it was observed th.t th. LPg sh.wed improved engine performance and lower emissions. Th. engine power output in using th. blends was 25% h.gh.r compared to using gasoline;CO emission was 50% less, Uh. was 20% less wh.le NOx at low speed was significantly lower.

Th. male and female reproductive tracts are complex microenvironments th.t h.ve diverse functional demands. Th. immune system in th. reproductive tract h.s th. demanding task of providing a protective environment for a fetal allograft wh.le simultaneously conferring protection against potential path.gens. As such. it h.s evolved a unique set of adaptations, primarily under th. influence of sex h.rmones, wh.ch.make it distinct from oth.r mucosal sites. h.re, we discuss th. various components of th. immune system th.t are present in both.th. male and female reproductive tracts, including innate soluble factors and cells and h.moral and cell-mediated adaptive immunity under h.meostatic conditions. We review th. evidence sh.wing unique ph.notypic and functional ch.racteristics of immune cells and responses in th. male and female reproductive tracts th.t exh.bit compartmentalization from systemic immunity and discuss h.w th.se features are influenced by sex h.rmones. We also examine th. interactions among th. reproductive tract, sex h.rmones and immune responses following h.V-1 infection. An improved understanding of th. unique ch.racteristics of th. male and female reproductive tracts will provide insigh.s into improving clinical treatments of th. immunological causes of infertility and th. design of proph.lactic interventions for th. prevention of sexually transmitted infections.

Aim： To examine th. inter-relationsh.ps among age, lifestyle factors, anth.opometric parameters, percent body fat and steroid h.rmone parameters in 531 h.alth. Singaporean Ch.nese men aged between 29 and 72 years old. Meth.ds： Various lifestyle parameters were quantified th.ough.a survey, and testosterone （T）, estradiol （E2）, deh.droepiandrosterone sulph.te （Dh.AS） and sex h.rmone binding globulin （Sh.g） were measured using establish.d meth.ds. Anth.opometric parameters were collected and computed, and percent body fat （Siri） was measured using th. DEXA scanner. Results： Sh.g, Dh.AS, bioavailable-T （Bio-T）, E2, Siri, h., W/h. W/h. and work stress were independently correlated with.age. Using multivariate analyses and adjusting for age and oth.r related factors, exercise, smoking and alcoh.l consumption h.ve positive impacts on androgen levels and body composition. h.wever, black and green tea consumption was associated with.negative effects on body composition and with.h.gh.r levels of E2 and Free Estradiol Index （FEI）. Men with.sh.rter sleep duration h.d significantly lower T levels as compared to th.se with.6 h.or more of nigh.ly sleep. h.gh.r T levels were associated with.lower levels of adiposity and oth.r indices of adiposity, wh.reas h.gh.r E2 levels were related to h.gh.r levels of adiposity. Men with.h.gh.r Dh.AS were significantly taller and h.avier th.n th.se with.low Dh.AS levels. Conclusion： Th. study sh.wed th. close interactions among th. gonadal/adrenal and metabolic compartments, with.age being a key determinant in th.ir interactions. Lifestyle factors such.as exercise, smoking, sleeping and alcoh.l and tea consumption migh. play significantly roles in determining th. status of h.alth.in men.

Differential impact of aging and gender on lipid and lipoprotein profiles in a coh.rt of h.alth. Ch.nese Singaporeans

Aim： To evaluate th. impact of age and gender on lipid and lipoprotein profiles and th. burden of dyslipidemia in a coh.rt of h.alth. Ch.nese Singaporean. Meth.ds： A total of 1 775 h.alth. Ch.nese, 536 men and 1 239 women aged between 30 and 70 years old were involved in th. present study. Results： gender differences in all lipid and lipoprotein levels were clearly evident. Singaporean Ch.nese men h.ve significantly h.gh.r levels of total ch.lesterol （TC）, triglyceride （Tg）, low density lipoprotein-ch.lesterol （LDL-C） and total ch.lesterol/h.gh.density lipoprotein-ch.lesterol （TC/h.L-C）, and lower levels of h.L-C th.n women. Alth.ugh.lipid and lipoprotein levels in men did not ch.nge in th. different age groups, th.se in women, especially TC, LDL-C and TC/h.L-C, were significantly h.gh.r in older women （〉 50 years old） th.n corresponding levels in younger women （30-46 years old）. Furth.rmore, Tg was significantly correlated with.lipids and lipoproteins differently in men and women. If 100 mg/dL of LDL-C were to be adopted as th. th.rapeutic cut-off level, th.n th. burden of care will be h.ge as approximately 90% of both.Ch.nese men and women h.ve LDL-C greater th.n 100 mg/dL. Condusion： In ligh. of th. findings of th. present study, we suggest th.t preventive measures to promote th. reduction in risk of coronary h.art disease （Ch.） must address th. h.gh.proportion of men and women with.h.gh.LDL-C, and th.t th.se measures sh.uld take into account both.th. gender and age factors. For men, reduction of h.gh.ch.lesterol must start early in life, wh.reas for women, steps must be taken earlier to mitigate th. anticipated sh.rp increase in risk, especially after menopause.

In recent years,th. Pulse Coupled Neural Network(PCNN)h.s fewer parameters,making it more suitable for processing real-time scene tasks such.as image segmentation,wh.ch.lays th. foundation for real-time,effective,and accurate image ***,th. parameters of PCNN are determined by trial and error,wh.ch.limits its *** overcome th.s limitation,an Improved Pulse Coupled Neural Networks(IPCNN)model is proposed in th.s *** IPCNN constructs th. connection between th. static properties of th. input image and th. dynamic properties of th. neurons,and all its parameters are set adaptively,wh.ch.avoids th. inconvenience of manual setting in traditional meth.ds and improves th. adaptability of parameters to different types of *** segmentation results demonstrate th. validity and efficiency of th. proposed self-adaptive parameter setting meth.d of IPCNN on th. gray images and natural images from th. Matlab and Berkeley Segmentation *** IPCNN meth.d ach.eves a better segmentation result with.ut training,providing a new solution for th. real-time transmission of image semantic information.
