Soil-transmitted helminth egg contamination from soil of indigenous communities in selected barangays in Tigaon, Camarines Sur, Philippines

Objective:To provide baseline data on the prevalence and intensity of soil-transmitted helminthiasis egg contamination in the soil among indigenous ***:A total of 317 soil samples from three barangays of indigenous communities communities in Tigaon,Camarines Sur,Philippines were examined for soil-transmitted helminthiasis egg contamination using optimized sugar flotation ***:Of the soil samples examined,141(44.48%)were contaminated by Ascaris spp.,Toxocara spp.,and Trichuris *** cumulative prevalence varying across the study sites(Py sites,followed by Toxocara *** Trichuris *** a prevalence of 41.96%,7.57%,and 5.36%,***,Toxocara *** the highest intensity of contamination,followed by Ascaris *** Trichuris *** term of geometric mean soil-transmitted helminthiasis eggs recovered per one gram soil sample(34.25,21.45,and 11.85 respectively).Each study site harbors significant amount of soiltransmitted helminthiasis eggs and zoonotic Toxocara eggs,which present high risk of soil-transmitted helminthiasis infection,particularly among children observed to play and cohabitate with animals known to be hosts of these ***:The alarming rate of soil-transmitted helminthiasis and Toxocara egg contamination reported in this study suggests that additional measures should be undertaken to control soil-transmitted helminthiasis and zoonotic intestinal infections in the country.

Objective:To explore risk of school-age children being infected with schistosomiasis in selected villages in the municipality of Calatrava,province of Negros Occidental,***:As part of the monitoring and evaluation of the helminth control program in the province of Negros Occidental,parasitological monitoring,through the use microscopy of stool samples processed using Kato-Katz technique,was conducted to describe the baseline and follow-up parasitological status of school-age children in 2010 and *** villages from the municipality of Calatrava were selected as study ***:During baseline assessment,only one case of schistosomiasis was reported from the village of *** follow-up assessment,32 cases(6.9%) of schistosomiasis were reported and the prevalence of moderate-heavy intensity infection was 13% in six *** the seven villages included in the follow-up,Minapasuk had the highest prevalence at 14.6%.while San Isidro reported no case of ***:Non-endemic villages,which have reported positive cases in school-age children,may need to be assessed for possible cndemicity for *** of the disease may need to be determined in these villages through active parasitological and malacological *** nonendemic villages adjacent to or share river networks with endemic villages in Calatrava may need to be explored for possible introduction of the disease,especially after typhoons and *** endemicity for schistosomiasis in these villages will help infected and at risk individuals to receive yearly treatment to reduce morbidities caused by this disease.

Soil-transmitted helminth(STH)infections remain a significant global health burden,affecting over 1.5 billion people *** the Philippines,STH infections continue to be prevalent,despite ongoing control *** Integrated Helminth Control Program,whose cornerstone is the mass drug administration with benzimidazole drugs,has shown some success in reducing STH prevalence in the ***,the persistence of infection prevalence being above the national and global targets and the potential for benzimidazole resistance have raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of current control *** review examines the development of benzimidazole resistance in STH,focusing on the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms in theβ-tubulin isotype that alter the protein’s amino acid composition,thereby negatively affecting benzimidazole binding *** review discusses the epidemiology of STH infections in the Philippines,the implementation of the Integrated Helminth Control Program and the potential challenges posed by benzimidazole *** review highlights the need for further research to assess the occurrence of benzimidazole resistance in Philippine STH populations and to explore alternative control *** the mechanisms of benzimidazole resistance and developing effective countermeasures is crucial for achieving sustainable STH control and elimination in the Philippines.

Development of a 3D model for particle-wall collision and induced rotation and its influence on particle trajectories

The present research focuses on improving the prediction of rotating particle *** particle-surface collision models do not accurately predict the particle rebound when taking rotation into *** data,such as the studies by Gorham and Kharaz(2000),Buck,Tang,Heinrich,Deen and Kuipers(2017),and Dong and Moys(2006)show that the Tsuji,Oshima and Morikawa(1985)model is inaccurate due to the incorrect tangential coefficient of restitution ***,Kuipers,Mohd Salleh,Stein,and Seville(2001)introduced a similar model to the work by Tsuji et al.(1985)which includes a tangential coefficient of restitution but is only in two dimensions and does not consider out of plane *** work re-derives the particle collision model from the impulse equations for binary collisions in 3D while considering rotating *** derived equations in this work compares well to experimental particle-surface impact *** implications of this model are seen by investigating erosion due to particle collision in a simple pipe *** is shown that Tsuji et al.(1985)over predicts the *** small differences in particle trajectories between the present model and the Tsuji et al.(1985)model will grow in complex flows with multiple close range particle impacts leading to inaccurate erosion predictions which will negatively impact the design of turbomachinery and pneumatic pipes.

Is Brenner＇s Modification to the Classical Navier-Stokes Equations Able to Describe Sound Propagation in Gases？

We analyse the problem concerning the propagation of sound waves in gases by using the modified hydrodynamic theory proposed recently by Brenner for single-component fluids. The modifications introduced by Brenner are based on his proposal that the translational momentum in fluid motion is not given by the mass flux. Comparison of the sound propagation results derived from Brenner＇s theory with available experimental data for monatomic gases shows that this modified continuum theory is unable to describe the acoustic measurements not even in the low-frequency limit, a result that from our point of view makes Brenner＇s proposal questionable.

Fabrication and characterization of Cu–Zn–Sn shape memory alloys via an electrodeposition–annealing route

Cu–Zn–Sn shape memory alloys(SMAs)with an average composition of 56.0 at%,36.1 at%,and 7.9 at%for Cu,Zn,and Sn,respectively,were successfully fabricated via an electrodeposition–annealing *** produced SMAs were assessed for shape memory response in terms of percent displacement(martensite phase recovery)by subjecting the ternary alloys to flame tests and subsequently characterizing them via differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy in conjunction with energy-dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)*** flame tests showed that the highest displacement was ca.93%,with average austenite and martensitic start transformation temperature of 225°C and 222°C,*** analysis revealed that the intermetallic phases responsible for the observed shape memory properties have substitutional Zn in the lattice occupied by Cu and Sn,leading to the formation of Cu(Zn,Sn)and Cu6(Zn,Sn)5 *** formation of these variants was attributed to the faster interdiffusion of Cu into Sn,driven by an activation energy of 34.82 kJ·mol^-*** cycles of repeated torching–annealing revealed an essentially constant shape memory response,suggesting that the fabricated SMAs were consistent and sufficiently reliable for their intended service application.

Dietary free fatty acids complex with amylose creating another form of resistant starch: Gastrointestinal formation with fowl and swine

Fat added to poultry and swine feeds often contains abundant free fatty acids(FFA)that can impair digestible energy(DE).Placement of the fatty acid(FA)hydrocarbon chain in the helix core reformed from amylose creates a complex of both *** modifications create a new structure termed the V-helix that becomes resistant toα-*** in grain naturally contain minimal amounts of these complexes with more being generated during food manufacturing when moisture and heat release amylose in the presence of FFA.A paucity of FFA usually exists in complete feeds without sources of poorquality *** fats and by-product meals from rendering are prominent in their saturated FFA content which favorably complex within the helix.V-helix-FA complexes may arise during their concurrent encounter of FFA together with amylose during feed manufacture,particularly *** in the gastrointestinal tract(GIT)are speculated to further form complexes when present together with *** amylose may be dissolved in the gastric and small intestinal milieu,FFA separately coalesce into hydrophobic fat droplets along with other dietary *** of complexes is likely restricted until FFA are released into the aqueous phase during fat ***α-amylase may be prominent,V-helix-FA complexes being resistant to enzymic attack pass into the large *** microbial catabolism of V-helices may generate volatile fatty acids that are absorbed by the mucosa;however,an inability to use FFA once released leads to their excretion and basis for decreased *** microbial populations with young animals usually lack the capacity to fully catabolize the V-helix,further extending the loss in DE.

Development of the telencephalon relies upon several signaling centers-localized cellular populations that supply secreted factors to pattern the cortical *** such signaling center is the cortical hem,which arises during embryonic development at the telencephalic dorsal midline,adjacent to the choroid plexus and hippocampal primordium(Figure 1A).While the cortical hem has also been described in reptiles and birds,most of our knowledge about the developmental roles of the cortical hem is derived from the analysis in *** cortical hem produces several types of secreted molecules,including wingless-related integration site(Wnt)and bone morphogenetic(Bmp)*** cortical hem is particularly important for the development of the hippocampus,which is involved in learning and memory,and the neocortex,which is the most complex brain region that mediates multiple types of behavior and higher cognitive functions(Mangale et al.,2008;Dal-Valle-Anton and Borrell,2022).
