A proctolin-like peptide is regulated after baculovirus infection and mediates in caterpillar locomotion and digestion

Baculoviruses constitute a large group of invertebrate dNA viruses, predominantly infecting larvae of the insect order Lepidoptera. during a baculovirus infection, the virus spreads throughout the insect body producing a systemic infection in multiple larval tissues, included the central nervous system (CNS). As a main component of the CNS, neuropeptides are small protein-like molecules functioning as neurohormones, neurotransmitters, or neuromodulators. These peptides are involved in regulating animal physiology and behavior and could be altered after baculovirus infection. in this study, we have investigated the effect of Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) infection on expression of Spodoptera exigua neuropeptides and neuropeptide-like genes. Expression of the gene encoding a polypeptide that resembles the well-known insect neuropeptide proctolin and named as proctolin-like peptide (PLP), was downregulated in the larval brain following infection and was chosen for further analysis. A recombinant Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) overexpressing the C-terminal part of the PLP was generated and used in bioassays using S. exigua larvae to study its influence on the viral infection and insect behavior. AcMNPV-PLP-infected larvae showed less locomotion activity and a reduction in growth compared to larvae infected with wild type AcMNPV or mock-infected larvae. These results are indicative of this new peptide as a neuromodulator that regulates visceral and skeletal muscle contractions and offers a novel effector involved in the behavioral changes during baculovirus infection.

A simple method to model the reduced environment of lake bottom sapropel formation

The Kambala and Barchin brackish lakes （Baraba steppe, southern West Siberia） contain an organic-rich sapropel layer that was formed in oxygen-depleted waters. We measured the bulk sediment elemental composition, the water chemistry and determined the mineralogical composition and predominant biota species （diatoms and Cyanobacteria in phytoplankton community respectively） in the lakes. The result indicates that the first lake has a siliceous type of sapropel and the second a carbonaceous one. A computer thermodynamic model was developed for chemical interaction in water-bottom sediment systems of the Kambala and Barchin Lakes. The surface sodium bicarbonate waters are supersaturated with respect to calcite, magnesite （or low Mg-calcite）, quartz and chlorite with minor strontianite, apatite and goethite （pH 8.9-9.3, Eh 0.3 V）. Nevertheless, it is shown that during sapropel deposition, deep silt waters should be anoxic （Eh〈0 V）. The virtual component CH20 has been used to create an anoxic environment suitable for pyrite formation due to the biotic community impact and abiotic reduction. Thermodynamic calculation has shown that silt water is not necessarily euxinic （anoxic and sulfidic）. depending on Eh, sulfate sulfur can dominate in solution, causing the formation of gypsum together with pyrite. An attempt was made to find a reason for solution supersaturation with respect to Ca and Mg ions due to their complexation with humic acids.

Folate Metabolism interferes with Plant immunity through 1C Methionine Synthase-directed Genome-wide dNA Methylation Enhancement

Plants rely on primary metabolism for flexible adaptation to environmental ***,through a combination of chemical genetics and forward genetic studies in Arabidopsis plants,we identified that the essential folate metabolic pathway exerts a salicylic acid-independent negative control on plant *** of the folate pathway promotes enhanced resistance to Pseudom onas syringae dC3000 via activation of a primed immune state in plants,whereas its implementation results in enhanced *** proteomics analysis using immune-defective mutants identified a methionine synthase(METS1),in charge of the synthesis of Met through the folate-dependent 1C metabolism,acting as a nexus between the folate pathway and plant *** of METS1 represses plant immunity and is accompanied by genome-wide global increase in dNA methylation,revealing that imposing a methylation pressure at the genomic level compromises plant *** together,these results indicate that the folate pathway represents a new layer of complexity in the regulation of plant defense responses.

Engineering the Smart Factory

The fourth industrial revolution promises to create what has been called the smart factory. The vision is that within such modular structured smart factories, cyber-physical systems monitor physical processes, create a virtual copy of the physical world and make decentralised decisions. This paper provides a view of this initiative from an automation systems perspective. in this context it considers how future automation systems might be effectively configured and supported through their lifecycles and how integration, application modelling, visualisation and reuse of such systems might be best achieved. The paper briefly describes limitations in current engineering methods, and new emerging approaches including the cyber physical systems （CPS） engineering tools being developed by the automation systems group （ASG） at Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick, UK.

Kinetics and mechanism of the low-energy β-a phase transition of the second kind in 2,4-dinitroanisole

in this work, comprehensive studies of 2,4-dinitroanisole(2,4dNAN) were carried out using powder thermorentgenography of the internal standard. The time of the complete polymorphic transition in the solid phase β→a in 2,4dNAN under various combinations of conditions has been determined. it has been established that, regardless of the season of manufacture of the substance, when it is stored for 8-9months, with a change in ambient temperature from minus 30℃ to plus 30℃, a complete polymorphic transition β→a occurs. When stored in conditions below minus 5℃, polymorphic transition does not occur. When stored in conditions above plus 30℃ in a closed container, polymorphic transition occurs within 3 weeks. The polymorphic transition is accompanied by a decrease in density by 1.3%-1.5% and an increase in melting temperature by 10-12℃, depending on the degree of purity of the starting substance. The activation energy of the molecular rearrangement was 68-70 k J/mol(16.5 ± 3 kcal/mol). The mechanism of polymorphic transition has been evaluated, which is presumably based on internal homodiffusion and energy transfer to the surface of the mass of powder particles and the product. The average activation energy of the polymorphic transition process was 110 ± 6.2 k J/mol(26.2 kcal/mol). in an open container, reactions proceed by a homogeneous mechanism, and in a closed container by a heterogeneous mechanism involving the gas phase.

Sustainable metal-free leather manufacture via synergistic effects of triazine derivative and vegetable tannins

Restrictions on heavy metals,especially chromium,have encouraged alternative tanning systems that can reduce environmental and human health risks from conventional chrome-based *** this work,metal-free combination tanning was developed by using vegetable tannins and a triazine-based syntan containing active chlorine groups(SACC).Specifically,the relationship between leather performance(e.g.,hydrothermal stability and organoleptic properties)and technical protocols(e.g.,types and dose of tannins)was systematically *** optimized protocol involving a unique procedure(i.e.,10%SACC pre-tanning,shaving,and 25%wattle tanning)endowed the leather with high shrinkage temperature(~92℃)and met the Chinese standards for shoe upper leather(QB/T 1873-2010).Our method not only produces zero chrome-containing solid wastes,but also uses~75%less tannin for leather *** excellent leather performance was ascribed to the synergistic effects,where SACC and wattle diffused into collagen fibrils and may bind to collagen via covalent,hydrogen and ionic bonding,locking the hierarchical structure of collagen from microfibrils to fiber ***,we summarized these findings and proposed a diffusion-binding-locking mechanism,providing new insights for current tanning *** with the biodegradable spent tanning liquor,this approach will underpin the development of sustainable leather manufacture.

Multiferroic materials attracted a lot of attention in recent years because of their significant scientific interest and technological applications. The multiferroic core/shell powders have a better connectivity between the phases, resulting in superior dielectric and magneto electric properties. in this study, the influence of preparation condition on structure and properties of BaTiO_3/α-Fe_2 O_3 core/shell composite materials was examined. The five samples were obtained by varying synthesis conditions, such as synthesized method(co-precipitation and sonochemical method) and pH values of solution. XRd and Raman spectroscopy analyses were performed in order to determine phase composition and structural changes within samples. Morphology modifications were examined by SEM and EdS analyses. Finally, effect of structural and microstructural changes on magnetic and electrical properties was detected and explained.

Sap flow rates of Minquartia guianensis in central Amazonia during the prolonged dry season of 2015–2016

Minquartia guianensis *** a slow-growing species with several *** the juvenile state,it is well-adapted to low light conditions of the forest ***,it is still unknown how climate variability affects transpiration of this species,particularly under drought *** this study,we aimed to assess the effect of climatic variability on sap flow rates(SFR).SFR and radial growth were measured in six trees(14-50 cm diameter)in 2015 and ***(precipitation,irradiance,relative humidity and temperature)and soil water content(SWC)data were also *** tended to increase in the dry season,with a negative relationship between SFR and SWC and precipitation(pile there was a positive association between radial growth and monthly precipitation(p=0.004).irradiance and temperature were the environmental factors more closely correlated with SFR during daytime(pive humidity and vapor pressure deficit were the most important factors at night(pive SFR were sometimes recorded at night,the mean nocturnal sap flow was positive and across trees the nighttime sap flow accounted for 12.5%of the total daily sap *** transpiration during the dry season suggests that the root system of Minquartia was able to extract water from deep soil *** results widen our understanding of the ecophysiology of Amazonian trees under drought and provide further insight into the potential effect of the forecasted decline in precipitation in the Amazon region.
