Use of Medicinal Cannabis for Palliative Care Patients: A Systematic Review

Background: Medical cannabis is a rapidly growing area of medicine. In this sense, due to the numerous benefits associated with its use, it has been increasingly proposed for patients in palliative care, in which the improvement of debilitating symptoms is directly associated with better quality of life. However, due to the complexity of treatments for these individuals, further studies are needed to determine the best possible prescription for them. Objective: Understand the endocannabinoid system and evaluate the feasibility of using medical cannabis in palliative care patients. Methods: Systematic literature review, addressing the following topics: “cancer, cannabis, and palliative care”. The search was carried out using the Virtual Health Library: Lilacs, SciELO, Medline, PubMed, and Cochrane, with articles between 2013 and 2022. Results and discussion: A total of 116 articles were found with the descriptors. After reading the abstracts, 22 showed greater association with the theme and were chosen for the preparation of this review. Conclusion: It is concluded that medical cannabis is an excellent treatment option for most of the symptoms present in patients in palliative care. In this way, the adoption of this drug by the public becomes logical. However, it is the physician’s role to seek to understand the particularities of these individuals and this new possibility of treatment, which, it seems, will significantly improve the end of life of these patients—this being the main role of the medical teams.

As a hazard, flood is an extremely important indicator of how a city is resilient to waterborne diseases and epidemics. Over many decades, flood as a hazard has been a major factor in inducing displacement of marginalized section of the people. Austin city within Central Texas has been identified as one of the major hotspots for flooding in recent decades. Thus, the objectives of the paper are two folded: 1) Empirically, we analyzed and mapped out the susceptibility levels from the factors of physical environments to assess the risk of urban flooding (rainfall data, surface water bodies and topography);in Austin, Texas and 2) Methodologically, we created a re-useable ArcGIS scripting tool that can be used by researchers to automate the process of flood risk modelling with certain criteria. The paper showcases a novel time sensitive building of a tool which will enable better visibility of flood within the city of Austin.

Liver transplantation represents the only curative option for patients with endstage liver disease,fulminant hepatitis and advanced hepatocellular *** though major advances in transplantation in the last decades have achieved excellent survival rates in the early post-transplantation period,long-term survival is hampered by the lack of improvement in survival in the late post transplantation period(over 5 years after transplantation).The main etiologies for late mortality are malignancies and cardiovascular *** latter are increasingly prevalent in liver transplant recipients due to the development or worsening of metabolic syndrome and all its components(arterial hypertension,dyslipidemia,obesity,renal injury,etc.).These comorbidities result from a combination of pre-liver transplant features,immunosuppressive agent side-effects,changes in metabolism and hemodynamics after liver transplantation and the adoption of a sedentary *** this review we describe the most prevalent metabolic and cardiovascular complications present after liver transplantation,as well as proposing management strategies.

AB5-based hydrogen storage thin fdms （LaNi4.25Al0.75）, deposited on Cu substrate by dc magnetron sputtering were investigated in this study. X-ray diffraction （XRd） revealed that the microstructure of the layer was in crystal form. SEM and AFM analyses proved that the film appeared to be rather rough with numerous randomly sized pores of approximately 15-40 in nm diameter. Structural stability of the film was examined by the combined analyses of dSC, XRd, and SEM, which indicated that this film maintained its structural stability below 500 K or so, and a network structure was observed on the film after being heated at 700 K for 30 min. Electrochemical hydrogen-storage properties of the films were investigated by simulated battery tests. It was found that single-layered LaNi4.25A10.75 film exhibited electrochemical hydrogen-storage properties similar to typical AB5 alloys in bulk, and the maximum discharge capacity of the film was about 220 mAh/g. After 20 charge/discharge cycles, small needle-shaped aluminium oxide was formed on some fractions of the film surface.

Chemical Characterization of Slags from an Old Smelter in Chihuahua, Mexico

Slag is waste from pyrometallurgical processing, usually stored in stacks or warehouses around or near smelters. Slag research has focused on potential environmental problems associated with slag weathering or processing for secondary metal recovery and/or other uses (construction, landscaping, etc.). Located in northern Mexico, the city of Chihuahua has a mining history that dates back to the eighteenth century. A lead smelter located southeast of Chihuahua City;closed in 1997, leaving behind a large pile of slag. In this study, a chemical analysis of smelter slag was carried out. The tailings contain Zn (15 - 35 wt%), Pb (0.5 - 4 wt%), As (0.6 wt%), Sn (888 ppb) and Hg (170 ppb). XRd identified several minerals such as hardystonite (Ca2ZnSi2O7), melanotekite (), kentrolite () and sphalerite (ZnS) in the glass. Major elements are present in phases such as monticellite (CaMgSiO4), kirschsteinite (CaFe2+SiO4), hedenbergite (CaFe2+Si2O6), babingtonite (Fe2Si3O9), magnetite (Fe3O4), and calcite (CaCO3). Whether the goal is reuse, recycling or remediation, research into the properties of slag and its environmental and health impacts (on vulnerable exposed populations) should continue to be relevant.
