This study assesses the role of globalization-fueled regionalization policies on the financial allocation efficiency of four economic and monetary regions in Africa from 1980 to *** and financial system efficiency proxies are used as dependent variables and seven bundled and unbundled globalization variables are employed as independent *** bundling is achieved by principal component analysis,while the empirical evidence is based on interactive fixed effects *** findings are as ***,financial allocation efficiency is more sensitive to financial openness compared to trade openness and most sensitive to *** relationship between allocation efficiency and globalization-fueled regionalization policies is defined by:(i)a Kuznets or inverted U-shaped curve in the UEMOA and CEMAC zones(evidence of decreasing returns for allocation efficiency from globalization-fueled regionalization)and(ii)a U-shaped relationship overwhelmingly in the COMEsA and scantily in the EAC(increasing returns to allocation efficiency due to globalization-fueled regionalization).These relationships are relevant to the specific globalization dynamics within *** and monetary regions are more prone to surplus liquidity than pure economic regions *** implications and measures for reducing surplus liquidity are also discussed.

Evaluation of the Properties of Cement Pastes and Mortars Used in the Encapsulation of Bituminized Waste to be Disposed in a Near-surface Repository

The Brazilian repository is being planned to be a near-surface one. In Brazil, the low and intermediate level radioactive wastes are immobilized using cement and bitumen for nuclear plant Angra 1 and Angra 2, respectively. The major problems due to the disposal of bituminized wastes in repositories are swelling of the waste products and their degrad^ttion in the long term. To accommodate the swelling of the bituminized wastes, the drums are filled up to 70-90% of their volume, which reduces the structural the repository stability and the disposal availability. Countries, which use bitumen in the solidification of NPP＇s radioactive waste and have near-surface repositories, need to immobilize this bituminized waste within other drums containing cement pastes or mortars to disposal them. This study aims to evaluate the properties of bitumen, cement pastes and mortars to be used in the encapsulation of bituminized wastes. The formulations of two pastes and two mortars were selected for the pilot scale tests. The laboratory and pilot scales results were very similar, indicating that any of these formulations could be used. However, the better formulation will be chosen after the leaching test results, because it is an essential parameter in the long-term repository performance.

The roots of onion (Allium cepa) stand out for having cells with large size and small number of *** characteristics make them useful in bioassays for the measurement of a variety of cytogenetic and morphological parameters , in which they can be used as toxicity indicators of the induction and formation of micronuclei and chromosomal *** on this background , the potential genotoxic effect of phenol concentration on cells of *** was investigated either in terms of induced aberrations or micronuclei *** results demonstrated that the higher the concentration of phenol , the higher the incidence of abnormalities , thus confirming the genotoxicity of this pollutant.

Non-invasive tests for the prediction of post-hepatectomy liver failure in the elderly

Post-hepatectomy liver failure(PHLF)is associated with great morbidity and mortality after resection of hepatocellular *** studies have underlined that advanced age could be a potential factor influencing post-operative complications and long-term *** the past,candidates for resection were based on the Child-Pugh classification,the predictive value of which was rather *** selection of patients undergoing resection in Western countries is based on the assessment of portal hypertension(PH),which is clinically assessed by measurement of the hepatic venous pressure gradient,an invasive and costly ***,there have been several attempts to identify the best non-invasive test(NIT)to accurately predict *** biochemical NITs for the prediction of PHLF are focused on evaluation of underlying liver cirrhosis and *** them,FIB-4,which also includes the patient's age,seems to have more robust supporting *** Europe and the UsA.,the most tested and reliable NIT for predicting PHLF is the evaluation of liver stiffness measurement,which is also influenced by *** parameters are promising tools which are used only in specialized centers however,and when *** volume parameters,as well as contrast-enhanced data,demonstrate good accuracy in predicting *** this scenario,the evaluation of sarcopenia and bone mineral density through contextual imaging allows the delineation of PHLF in at-risk elderly *** studies focused on parameters for the evaluation of PHLF in elderly patients are needed.

The Cemitério Palaeolake deposit in Catalao, Goiás state, Brazil, comprises a single, complete lacustrine sequence, dated from less than 27,500 ± 4000 yr B.P. to more than 51,780 ± 400 14C yr B.P. The unprecedented presence of spongillite and diatomite layers in this deposit was investigated using spicules of continental sponges as proxy data for environmental and climate reconstruction, which was relatively extensive for the ages examined. From the analysis of the sedimentary features and the associations of spicules preserved in the deposit, it was possible to reconstruct the evolution of the limnic system. Five developmental stages were thus identified, corresponding to the installation (lotic and erosion phase), establishment and development of the lake and its colmatation, the latter correlating to the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Moreover, based on the ecological requirements of the sponge species identified in the deposit, it was possible to infer the likely weather patterns related to respective phases of the lake. The presence of the sponge species Corvoheteromeyenia australis, presently recorded only from southern south America, indicated that polar incursions originating from the Antarctic were frequent during the last glacial period and might have played a notable role in what is now central Brazil. However, for a short time, drier and hotter weather conditions might have predominated, as suggested by the presence of the species Corvomeyenia thumi.

Background:Children with congenital heart disease(CHD),even after surgical approaches,and especially those who undergo staged procedures in theﬁrst months of life,remain vulnerable to readmissions and complications,requiring very close monitoring and differentiated intervention ***:Descriptive and exploratory study,of the experience report type,which presents the process of building the high-risk outpatient clinic for complex congenital heart diseases(AAR)at the Instituto do Coração(InCor).Results:Report of the path taken to structure the AAR,demonstrating the organization,interface with the multidisciplinary team,admission and discharge criteria,training,and patient proﬁ*** theseﬁve years of care,275 patients were treated,59.65%with biventricular interstage physiology,followed by univentricular interstage physiology(34.55%),residual defects after surgical procedures(3.63%),tumors with risk of mechanical obstruction(1.45%)and patients with an intrauterine approach(0.72%).The signiﬁcant number of critical patients who were successfully discharged from hospital(44.72%),the low mortality rate due to sudden deaths at home and the high adherence to follow-up cor-roborate the impact of this specialized ***:Despite the limitations of the study,this experi-ence report showed that with few resources,there is the possibility of organizing an AAR with differentiated care,with the objective of early detection and treatment of residual injuries,identiﬁcation of early interventions,edu-cation of parents for follow-up of their children,resulting in individualized treatment,promoting a better quality of life for this population.

spatial and temporal variation in interactions between hummingbirds and plants have often been examined, and hummingbirds and insects are known to indirectly interact in networks of nectar plants. In a highland temperate forest in Hidalgo, Mexico some oak trees were heavily infested by honeydew-producing insects （family Margarodidae, tribe Xylococcini, genus strigmacoccus） and the honeydew was consumed by hummingbirds. Here using survival analysis we investigate how the honey- dew produced by dense populations of these margarodids is temporally and spatially partitioned by hummingbirds. We also measured the availability and quality of honeydew exudates, and then we recorded the time until a bird visited and used such re- sources. Four hummingbird species consumed this resource （Atthis eloisa, Hylocharis leucotis, colibri thalassinus and Eugenes fulgens）. Data from 294 hours of observation on seven focal trees suggested temporal and spatial segregation among visiting birds according to body size and territorial behavior during the most honeydew-limited time. Hummingbird species differed in the dally times they foraged, as well as in the location where honeydew-producing insects were visited on the trees. Temporal and spatial segregation among hummingbird species is interpreted as an adaptation to reduce the risk of aggressive encounters. This may facilitate multispecies coexistence and allow these birds to exploit honeydew more effectively
