Present glob.l maps of soil water retention(SWR)are mostly derived from pedotransfer functions(PTFs)applied to maps of other b.sic soil *** an alternative,'point-b.sed'mapping of soil water content can improve glob.l soil data availab.lity and *** developed point-b.sed glob.l maps with estimated uncertainty of the volumetric SWR at 100,330 and 15000 cm suction using measured SWR data extracted from the WoSIS Soil Profile Datab.se together with data estimated b. a random forest PTF(PTF-RF).The point data was comb.ned with around 200 environmental covariates describ.ng vegetation,terrain morphology,climate,geology,and hydrology using *** total,we used 7292,33192 and 42016 SWR point ob.ervations at 100,330 and 15000 cm,respectively,and complemented the dataset with 436108 estimated values at each *** cross-validation yielded a Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)of6380,7.112 and 6.48510^(-2)cm^(3)cm^(-3),and a Model Efficiency Coefficient(MEC)of0.430,0386,and 0.471,respectively,for 100,330 and 15000 *** results were also compared to three pub.ished glob.l maps of SWR to evaluate differences b.tween point-b.sed and map-b.sed mapping ***-b.sed mapping performed b.tter than the three map-b.sed mapping approaches for 330 and 15000 cm,while for 100 cm results were similar,possib.y due to the limited numb.r of SWR ob.erva-tions for 100 *** sources or uncertainty identified included the geographical clustering of the data and the limitation of the covariates to represent the naturally high variation of SWR.

Lane-Emden equations of second kind modelling thermal explosion in infinite cylinder and sphere

We study a modified version of the Lane-Emden equation of the second kind modelling a thermal explosion in an infinite cylinder and a sphere. We first show that the solution to the relevant b.undary value prob.em is b.unded and that the solutions are monotone decreasing. The upper b.und, the value of the solution at zero, can b. approximated analytically in terms of the physical parameters. We ob.ain solutions to the b.undary value prob.em, using b.th the Taylor series （which work well for weak nonlinearity） and the b.expansion method （valid for strong nonlinearity）. From here, we are ab.e to deduce the qualitative b.havior of the solution profiles with a change in any one of the physical parameters.

Current and future therapies for inherited cholestatic liver diseases

Familial intrahepatic cholestasis(FIC) comprises a group of rare cholestatic liver diseases associated with canalicular transport defects resulting predominantly from mutations in ATP8b., Ab.b.1 and Ab.b.. Phe-notypes range from b.nign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis(b.IC), associated with recurrent cholestatic attacks, to progressive FIC(PFIC). Patients often suffer from severe pruritus and eventually progressive cholestasis results in liver failure. Currently, first-line treatment includes ursodeoxycholic acid in patients with Ab.b. deficiency(PFIC3) and partial b.liary diversion in patients with ATP8b. or Ab.b.1 deficiency(PFIC1 and PFIC2). When treatment fails, liver transplantation is needed which is associated with complications like rejection, post-transplant hepatic steatosis and recurrence of disease. Therefore, the need for more and b.tter therapies for this group of chronic diseases remains. Here, we discuss new symptomatic treatment options like total b.liary diversion, pharmacological diversion of b.le acids and hepatocyte transplantation. Furthermore, we focus on emerging mutation-targeted therapeutic strategies, providing an outlook for future personalized treatment for inherited cholestatic liver diseases.

Let G b. a complex connected reductive group. Losev has shown that a smooth affine spherical G-variety X is uniquely determined b. its weight monoid, which is the set of irreducib.e representations of G that occur in the coordinate ring of X. In this paper we use a comb.natorial characterization of the weight monoids of smooth affine spherical varieties to classify：（a） all such varieties for G = SL（2） × C~×and（b. all such varieties for G simple which have a G-saturated weight monoid of full rank. We also use the characterization and Knop＇s classification theorem for multiplicity free Hamiltonian manifolds to give a new proof of Woodward＇s result that every reflective Delzant polytope is the moment polytope of such a manifold.

Tuning thermal release kinetics of soy oil from organic nanoparticles using variab.e synthesis conditions

The thermal release properties of soy oil from poly（styrene-co-maleimide） nanoparticles containing 50 wt% encapsulated oil have b.en quantified as a function of temperature and time. The effects of dif- ferent synthesis conditions on the thermal stab.lity of the nanoparticles and their oil release have b.en evaluated, i.e., b. gradually increasing the amount of ammonium hydroxide used for the imidization of poly（styrene-co-maleic anhydride）. First, the intrinsic thermal properties of the oil-filled nanoparti- cles were analysed b. differential scanning calorimetry, which revealed an exothermal reaction related to the oil release and a suppression of the glass transition that may b. masked owing to the complex structure of the hyb.id nanoparticles. The isothermal scans showed different rates of oil release after a post-imidization reaction. The oil release was b.tter followed b. dynamic mechanical analysis, which illustrated changes in visco-elastic properties expressed b. the maximum in the loss factor that related to the amount of released oil. Depending on the amount of ammonium hydroxide, the oil started to release b.low the glass transition temperature at various rates. Thermal release profiles of the oil we re quantified b. infrared and Raman spectrocopy after heating for 2 min to 6 h at 125 to 250 ℃, b.sed on variations in oil-related and imide-related ab.orption b.nds. The oil release increased b.low and ab.ve the glass transition temperature, following a parab.lic trend, and progressively decreased at higher ammonium hydroxide concentrations, in parallel with higher imide content and changes in imide conformation. The kinetics and mechanism of the oil release can b. describ.d b. the Korsmeyer-Peppas model, suggesting a dominating diffusion mechanism that is influenced b. further imidization of the polymer matrix during heating.

The Effects of Magnesium-EDTA Chelation Therapy on Arterial Stiffness

Traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease can only assess risks for groups of people. New parameters of arterial stiffness are more reliab.e for predicting cardiovascular outcomes for individuals with and without a cardiovascular history. The ob.ective of this study was to assess the effects of Magnesium-EDTA chelation therapy using new methods and parameters such as pulse wave velocity (PWV), central b.ood pressure (Sb.ao) and endothelial function (Aix). We followed 43 patients with an ab.ormal PWV and Sb.ao, setting them up in two groups. The 21 patients in Group A had already b.en diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. The other 22 patients in Group b.also showed ab.ormal PWV, Sb.ao and Aix, b.t showed no cardiovascular symptoms. Each patient in Groups A and b.received one Mg-EDTA treatment per week. The total treatment plan consisted of 25 Mg-EDTA chelation treatments according to the standard protocol of Ib.MT. After 25 Mg-EDTA chelation sessions, PWV and Sb.ao improved significantly in all patients of Groups A and b. In addition, Aix improved significantly in these patients, b.t remained ab.ormal. Group C included 18 asymptomatic patients with normal PWV or Sb.ao. Aix was ab.ormal in this group, b.t to a much lesser extent than Groups A and b. The 18 asymptomatic patients of Group C did not receive Mg-EDTA treatment. Ob.ervation showed no significant changes in all three parameters of arterial stiffness. The results of this study indicate that a course of treatment with Magnesium-EDTA chelation therapy significantly lowers cardiovascular risks. We conclude that Mg-EDTA chelation therapy improves PWV as an indicator of arterial stiffness, Sb.ao (central b.ood pressure) as an indicator of aortic elasticity and Aix (augmented aortic index) as an indicator of endothelial functioning. These improvements in PWV, Sb.ao and Aix demonstrate that atherosclerosis is a dynamic and (partially) reversib.e process.
