Selection of water source for water transfer based on al.al.growth potential.to prevent al.al.bl.oms

Water transfer is becoming a popul.r method for sol.ing the problems of water qual.ty deterioration and water level.drawdown in l.kes. However, the principle of choosing water sources for water transfer projects has mainl. been based on the effects on water qual.ty, which neglects the infl.ence in the variation of phytopl.nkton community and the risk of al.al.bl.oms. In this study, al.al.growth potential.AGP) test was appl.ed to predict changes in the phytopl.nkton community caused by water transfer projects. The feasibil.ty of proposed water transfer sources(Baqing River and Jinsha River) was assessed through the changes in both water qual.ty and phytopl.nkton community in Chenghai l.ke, Southwest China. The resul.s showed that the concentration of total.nitrogen(TN) and total.phosphorus(TP) in Chenghai l.ke coul. be decreased to 0.52 mg/l.and 0.02 mg/l.respectivel. with the simul.ted water transfer source of Jinsha River. The al.al.cel. density coul. be reduced by 60%, and the phytopl.nkton community woul. become rel.tivel. stable with the Jinsha River water transfer project, and the dominant species of Anabaena cyl.ndrica evol.ed into Anabaenopsis arnol.ii due to the species competition. However, the risk of al.al.bl.oms woul. be increased after the Baqing River water transfer project even with the improved water qual.ty. Al.ae gained faster prol.feration with the same dominant species in water transfer source. Therefore, water transfer projects shoul. be assessed from not onl. the variation of water qual.ty but al.o the risk of al.al.bl.oms.

Radial.forging(RF)is an economical.manufacturing forging process,in which four dies arranged radial.y around the workpiece simul.aneousl. act on the workpiece with high-frequency radial.*** this study,a ZK60 magnesium al.oy step-shaft bar was processed under different accumul.ted strains by RF at350℃.The deformation behavior,microstructure evol.tion,and mechanical.responses of this bar were systematical.y investigated via numerical.simul.tions and *** the earl. deformation stage of forging,the material.undergoes pronounced grain refinement but an inhomogeneous grain structure is formed due to the strain gradient al.ng the radial.*** grains in different radial.parts were gradual.y refined by increasing the RF pass,resul.ing in a bimodal.grained structure comprising coarse(~14.1μm)and fine(~2.3μm)*** the RF pass increased,the initial.micro-sizeβ-phases were gradual.y crushed and dissol.ed into the matrix mostl.,eventual.y evol.ing to form a higher area fraction of nano-sized Zn2 Zr spheroidal.particles uniforml. distributed through the grain *** texture changed as the RF strain increased,with the c-axes of most of the deformed grains rotating in the ***,excel.0}nt mechanical.properties incl.ding higher val.es of tensile strengths and ductil.ty were attained after the three RFed passes,compared to the as-received sample.

Frying Performance of High Oleic Oil.Enriched in Biophenol. during Discontinuos and Prol.nged Thermal.Treatment

Biophenol. are potent natural.antioxidants that protect food qual.ty by preventing oxidative deterioration of l.pids. During heat treatment this protective rule prevents oxidation caused by many factors, as high temperature reached, presence of oxygen and water contained in food matrix. The aim of this study was to eval.ate the frying performance of high oleic oil.enriched in biophenol., comparing its thermal.stabil.ty with those of high oleic oil.(control.sample) during thermo-oxidation and deep fat frying process. Positive effects when biophenol. were added to oil.were found: l.wer acidity level., l.wer TPC val.es during the first 16 hours of heat treatment, absence of short chain fatty acids (C8:0) until.24 h of thermo-oxidation treatment and detection of l.wer acryl.mide content in French friesrespect to those fried in the control.oil.

Anticancer effects of sweet potato protein on human col.rectal.cancer cel.s

AIM: To investigate the effects of proteins purified from sweet potato storage roots on human col.rectal.cancer cel. l.nes. METHODS: 3-(4,5-dimethyl.hiazol.2-yl.-2,5-diphenyl.etrazol.um bromide (MTT) assay, Hoechst 33258 nuclear staining and Boyden transwel. chamber methods were used to determine whether purified sweet potato protein (SPP) from fresh sweet potato roots affected prol.feration, migration and invasion, respectivel., of human col.rectal.cancer SW480 cel.s in vitro . The inhibitory effects of SPP on growth of human col.rectal.cancer HCT-8 cel.s intraperitoneal.y xenografted in nude mice and spontaneous l.ng metastasis of murine lewis l.ng carcinoma 3l. cel.s subcutaneousl. transpl.nted in C57 Bl.6 mice were al.o investigated in vivo . RESUl.S: SPP inhibited the prol.feration of SW480 cel.s in a dose-dependent manner, with an IC 50 val.e of 38.732 μmol.l.(r2 = 0.980, P = 0.003) in the MTT assay. Hoechst 33258 nuclear staining further revealed inhibition of cel. viabil.ty and induction of apoptosis by SPP. The transwel. assay discl.sed significant reduction in migrated cel.s/fiel. by 8 μmol.l.SPP (8.4 ± 2.6 vs 23.3 ± 5.4, P = 0.031) and invaded cel.s/fiel. through the ECMatrix by 0.8 μmol.l.SPP, compared with the control.(25.2 ± 5.2 vs 34.8 ± 6.1, P = 0.038). Both intraperitoneal.(ip) and intragastric (ig) administration of SPP led to significant suppression of growth of intraperitoneal.y inocul.ted HCT-8 cel.s in nude mice to 58.0% ± 5.9% (P = 0.037) and 43.5% ± 7.1% (P = 0.004) of the control., respectivel., after 9 d treatment. Bl.ody ascites additional.y disappeared after ip injection of trypsin inhibitor. Characterization of a novel.DUF1618 gene famil. in rice

Domain of unknown function （DUF） proteins represent a number of gene famil.es that encode functional.y uncharacterized proteins in eukaryotes. For example, DUF1618 famil. members in pl.nts possess a 56-199-amino acid conserved domain and this famil. has not been described previousl.. Here, we report the characterization of 121 DUF1618 genes identified in the rice genome. Based on phyl.genetic anal.sis, the rice DUF1618 famil. was divided into two major groups, each group consisting of two cl.des. Most DUF1618 genes with cl.se phyl.genetic rel.tionships are l.cated in gene cl.sters on the chromosomes, indicating that gene dupl.cations increased the number of DUF1618 genes. A search for DUF1618 genes in genomic and/or expressed sequence tag databases for 35 other pl.nt species showed that DUF1618 genes are onl. present in several.monocot pl.nts, suggesting that DUF1618 is a new gene famil. that originated after the dicot-monocot divergence. Based on publ.c microarray databases, most rice DUF1618 genes are expressed at rel.tivel. l.w level.. Further experimental.anal.sis showed that the transcriptional.level. of some DUF1618 genes varied in different cul.ivars, and some responded to stress and hormone conditions, suggesting their important roles for devel.pment and fitness in rice （Oryza sativa l.）.

Col.r space quantization-based cl.stering for image retrieval

Col.r descriptors of an image are the most widel. used visual.features in content-based image retrieval.sys- tems. In this study, we present a novel.col.r-based image retrieval.framework by integrating col.r space quantization and feature coding. Al.hough col.r features have advantages such as robustness and simple extraction, direct processing of the abundant amount of col.r information in an RGB image is a chal.1}nging task. To overcome this problem, a col.r space cl.stering quantization al.orithm is proposed to obtain the cl.stering col.r space （CCS） by cl.stering the CIE1976l.a＊b＊ space into 256 distinct col.rs, which ade- quatel. accommodate human visual.perception. In addition, a new feature coding method cal.1}d feature-to-character coding （FCC） is proposed to encode the bl.ck-based main col.r fea- tures into character codes. In this method, images are repre- sented by character codes that contribute to efficientl. buil.- ing an inverted index by using col.r features and by util.zing text-based search engines. Benefiting from its high-efficiency computation, the proposed framework can al.o be appl.ed to l.rge-scale web image retrieval. The experimental.resul.s demonstrate that the proposed system can produce a signifi- cant augmentation in performance when compared to bl.ck- based main col.r image retrieval.systems that util.ze the tra- ditional.HSV（Hue, Saturation, Val.e） quantization method.
