Terahertz(THz)technology offers novel opportunities in biology and medicine,thanks to the unique features of THzwave interactions with tissues and *** them,we particularly notice strong sensitivity of THz waves to the tissue water,as a medium for biochemical reactions and a main endogenous marker for THz spectroscopy and *** of the brain have an exceptionally high content of *** factor,along with the features of the structural organization and biochemistry of neuronal and glial tissues,makes the brain an exciting subject to study in the THz *** this paper,progress and prospects of THz technology in neurodiagnostics are overviewed,including diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease,myelin deficit,tumors of the central nervous system(with an emphasis on brain gliomas),and traumatic brain *** and applied challenges in study of the THz-wave–brain tissue interactions and development of the THz biomedical tools and systems for neurodiagnostics are discussed.

Background:In 2015,following a call for proposals from the special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases(TDR),six scoping reviews on the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases in urban areas were *** reviews provided a clear picture of the available knowledge and highlighted knowledge gaps,as well as needs and opportunities for future *** on the research findings of the scoping reviews,a concept mapping exercise was undertaken to produce a list of priority research needs to be ***:Members of the six research teams responsible for the“VEctor boRne DiseAses scoping reviews”(VERDAs)consortium’s scoping reviews met for 2 days with decision-makers from Colombia,Brazil,Peru,Pan-American Health Organization,and World Health Organization.A total of 11 researchers and seven decision-makers(from ministries of health,city and regional vector control departments,and vector control programs)completed the concept mapping,answering the question:“In view of the knowledge synthesis and your own expertise,what do we still need to know about vector-borne diseases and other infectious diseases of poverty in urban areas?”Participants rated each statement on two scales from 1 to 5,one relative to‘priority’and the other to‘policy relevance’,and grouped statements into clusters based on their own individual criteria and ***:The final map consisted of 12 *** considered those entitled“Equity”,“Technology”,and“surveillance”to have the highest *** cluster considered the most important concerns equity issues,confirming that these issues are rarely addressed in research on vector-borne *** the other hand,the“Population mobility”and“Collaboration”clusters were considered to be the lowest priority but remained identified by participants as research *** average policy relevance scores for each of the 12 clusters were roughly the same as the priority scores for all ***

strong>Background: strong>Parasitic diseases are threat to the development of Ivorian Pig industry. Zoonotic diseases such as Echinococcosis have a significant impact on animal health and production. Little is known about Echinococcosis in Cô te d’Ivoire. strong>Aim:strong> For these reasons, a cross section study was conducted at sIVAC in Yopougon, on pigs (sus scrofa domesticus), in order to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors of Echinococcosis. strong>Method:strong> Paraclinical examinations of pig organs (kidneys, lungs, and liver) were conducted from 5sup>thsup> september to 30sup>thsup> December 2019 in order to report infection with this parasite. strong>Results:strong> Out of the 2425 slaughtered pigs, 63 of them were Echi-nococcosis positive, resulting in overall infection prevalence of 2.6% (95% CI: 1.9% - 3.22%). The kidneys (2.35%) were most infected, followed by lungs (0.21%), and liver (0.04%). strong>Recommendations: strong>A more in-depth study on the molecular epidemiology of Echinococcosis in the different regions of Cô te d’Ivoire is underway. Also, capacity building of community livestock actors (Veterinarians, health inspectors, breeders and butchers) and sensitization of the population on this disease is necessary in order to improve its diagnosis at the abattoir level and to set up strategies to combat it.

Monitoring and understanding the changes in mangrove ecosystems and their surroundings are required to determine how mangrove ecosystems are constantly changing while influenced by anthropogenic, and natural drivers. Cosistency in high spatial resolution (30 m) satellite and high performance computing facilities are limiting factors to the process, with storage and analysis requirements. With this, we present the Google Earth Engine (GEE) based approach for long term mapping of mangrove forests and their surroundings. In this study, we used a GEE based approach: 1) to create atmospheric contamination free data from 1987-2017 from different Landsat satellite imagery;and 2) evaluating the random forest classifier and post classification change detection method. The obtained overall accuracy for the years 1987 and 2017 was determined to be 0.87 and 0.96, followed by a Kappa coefficient 0.80 and 0.94. The change detection results revealed a significant decrease in the agricultural area, while there was an increase in mangrove forest, shrimp/fish farm, and bareland area. The results suggest that interconversion of land use and land cover is affecting the landscape dynamics within the study area.

Microsatellites have recently opened windows of frequent and low cost missions for planetary exploration. The performance of gamma-ray and neutron spectrometers on future microsatellite missions is simulated to assess the possibility of observation of hydrogen and major elements, given their concentration on the observation target. The measured elemental abundance will provide important geological constraints, and some of them may serve as space resources. Four different types of target bodies with various hydrogen concentrations in the range of 0 - 20,000 ppm are assumed as target compositions;Earth’s core, C-type, s-type and Martian meteorites. Gamma-ray and neutron emission rates show unique footprints that are related to the different elemental compositions. The starting point is the solid angle subtended between observation target and spectrometers that allow estimating the gamma-ray and neutron count rates emitted by the celestial bodies. In this work, three types of gamma-ray detectors;high-purity germanium (HPGe), CeBr3 and LaBr3(Ce), a neutron spectrometer combining a lithium glass scintillator with a boron loaded plastic scintillator and a dual mode spectrometer Cs2LiyCl6(Ce) (CLYC) are simulated, focusing on their observation backgrounds as a model case for microsatellite based measurements. The background count level of both gamma-ray (except for the LaBr3 detector) and neutron count rates was negligible under these particular conditions. The gamma-ray detectors were compared by the figure of merit, which was determined by their efficiency and energy resolution. It was found that each detector has unique advantages. The HPGe detector has the highest figure of merit due to its excellent energy resolution, whereas the CLYC detector is low in weight and power consumption due to its dual sensitivity to gamma-ray and neutron. In this work we determine the physical and mechanical properties of local composites reinforced with papaya trunk fibers (FTP) on one hand and particles of the hulls of the kernels of the garlic (PCNFA) in the other hand. The samples are produced according to BsI 2782 standards;by combining fibers and untreated to polyester matrix following the contact molding method. We notice that the long fibers of papaya trunks improve the tensile/compression characteristics of composites by 45.44% compared to pure polyester;while the short fibers improve the flexural strength of composites by 62.30% compared to pure polyester. Furthermore, adding fibers decreases the density of the final composite material and the rate of water absorption increases with the size of the fibers. As regards composite materials with particle reinforcement from the cores of the winged fruits, the particle size (fine ≤ 800 μm and large ≤ 1.6 mm) has no influence on the Young’s modulus and on the rate of water absorption. On the other hand, fine particles improve the flexural strength of composite materials by 53.08% compared to pure polyester;fine particles increase the density by 19% compared to the density of pure polyester.

Influence of hyperbaric oxygenation treatment (HBOT) on clinical outcomes (recurrent myocardial infarction and survival rate) during five-year monitoring period after acute myocardial infarction

surgical treatments of acute myocardial infarction (MI) possess a high clinical effectiveness, but there are fixed limitations, related to the patient’s state, which are limited by medical resources and organizational problems. The development of new medical technologies provides a better and effective non-surgical treatment of acute MI and increases long-term prognosis in this category of patients. The study aims to investigate the influence of hyperbaric oxygenation treatment on clinical outcomes (survival rate and recurrent myocardial infarction (rMI)) during the five-year period of monitoring. The study involved 697 patients who suffered from acute MI, having undergone the standard treatment. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 (reference, n = 363);Group 2 (test, n = 334). Patients of Group 2 were given the traditional treatment, accompanied with HBOT (isopression for forty minutes at a working pressure of 0.03 MPa). HBOT was applied first through the fifth day following MI. The treatment course included six cycles, once per day. The clinical assessment was focused on clinical outcome: rMI and mortality related to cardiovascular events. HBOT application that accompanied the acute MI with traditional pharmacotherapy has been proved to reduce rMI within five years following inpatient discharge (rMI rate was 14% in the reference group and 5.4% in the test group, χ2 = 13.3, р s in treating acute MI makes it possible to raise the five-year survival rate from 84.4% up to 95.9%.

Kleiber’s Law or E = M3/4 is a mathematical expression known since 1932 that outlines the relationship between mass (biomass) and the use of energy. It is compelling because it supports a long standing observation that larger animals appear to use energy more efficiently than smaller ones. For example, an elephant’s weight is 200,000 times of a mouse, but uses only about 10,000 fold energy;thus a cat, having a mass of about 100 times of a mouse, only spends roughly 33 fold energy. In other words, the bigger you are, the less energy per gram of tissue you actually need to stay alive. Many facts pertaining to animal size call for a rational explanation. This paper takes into account that the fascinating relationship between mass and energy use for any living thing is governed strictly by a mathematical universal formula across all living species, operating in the tiniest of bacteria to the biggest of whales and sequoia tress. For the first time, we report a capacity for the mammal eukaryotic cell to split, break or dissociate water molecules through melanin. Even though E = M3/4 was discovered eight decades ago, no proper satisfactory explanation exists. Nevertheless, our multiyear detailed study on the “Human Photosynthesis” or first found in the human retina and later in all eukaryotic cells, may finally unravel this mystery, namely, the bigger you are the more surface area you have to absorb electromagnetic radiation and the more potential exists to use that electromagnetic radiation spectra to perform work. We propose a future application of this theory in the context of human diseases, especially age-related disorders, such as retinopathy, cerebrovascular and Alzheimer disease and these implications may not only foster a better understanding of the pathobiology of these devastating diseases but also develop much more effective therapies in the foreseeable future.
