Hematological profile of COVID-19 infected children before and after the spread of the Omicron variant in Istanbul

Objective:To examine the effect of the COVID-19 virus,especially the Omicron variant,on hematological parameters of hospitalized pediatric patients during the COVID-19 ***:Medical records of pediatric COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Kartal Dr.Lütfi K?rdar City Hospital in Istanbul,Turkey,between March 2020 and May 2022 were retrospectively reviewed to analyze data regarding demographics,SARS-Co V-2 infection polymerase chain reaction(PCR)test results,reversetranscriptase(RT)-PCR for other respiratory agents,duration of hospital stay,and hematological and biochemical laboratory ***:Out of 467 children with a confirmed diagnosis of SARSCo V-2 infection,94(20.1%)had Omicron infection and 373(79.9%)were infected with other variants;the Omicron group had younger patients than the remaining samples(P<0.001).The most frequent clinical symptoms in all children were cough(53.5%)and fever(32.3%),followed by vomiting(20.8%).Lung involvement in the Omicron group(10.6%)was significantly lower than in the remaining samples(29.8%)(P<0.001).Hemoglobin and lymphocyte levels were lower in the Omicron-infected group(both P<0.001),while prothrombin time,activated partial thromboplastin time,international normalized ratio,and D-dimer levels were significantly higher in this group(P<0.001,P<0.001,P<0.001,and P=0.023,respectively).In terms of lung involvement,those with lung involvement were significantly older(P<0.001).Conclusions:Although lung involvement was less common with Omicron infection,this group had greater hematological system involvement,such as anemia,lymphopenia,D-dimer elevation,and coagulation disorders.

Climate change is forecast to increase the frequency of extreme hot temperatures and dryer days and is anticipated to have profound impacts on the global carbon *** are expected to alter soil respiration(R_(s))rates,but the scarcity of data preclude a reliable estimate of this response and its future trajectory.A field experiment using an automated soil respiration machinery(LI-8100A)was conducted in a natural forest and a plantation during a dry period in the Philippines,with the goal of quantifying Rsrates and their relationship with soil temperature and moisture,and air *** natural forest(5.81μmol m^(-2)s^(-1))exhibited significantly higher Rsrates(p<0.0001)compared with the plantation(1.82μmol m^(-2)s^(-1))and control(3.23μmol m^(-2)s^(-1)).Rsrates showed significant negative relationships with air(-0.71)and soil temperatures(-0.62),indicating that as temperatures increase,the R_(s)rates *** contrast,the R_(s)rates exhibited a significant positive relationship with soil moisture(0.65).Although the low R_(s)rates in the plantation and high Rsrates in the natural forest are indicators of sensitivities of these two types of tropical forests to warm,dry soil,this observation is only conclusive during the dry period,but not necessarily during wet *** studies are needed to determine the trend of Rsrates during wet periods,considering different site conditions and types of vegetation.

Furfurylation is a well-known wood modification *** paper studied the effect of tannin addition on the wood *** kinds of dicarboxylic acids,adipic acid,succinic acid,and tartaric acid,as well as glyoxal as a comparing agent,were used to catalyse the polymerisation of furanic or tannin-furanic solutions during wood *** of furanic or tannin-furanic solution at a certain concentration into the wood followed with curing at 103℃for a specific duration was performed for the wood *** properties of the modified woods like dimensional stability,resistance of treatment to leaching,mechanical properties,decay durability against white-rot(Coriolus versicolor,Pycnoporus sanguineus)and brown-rot(Coniophora puteana)as well as their chemical and anatomical characteristics were *** revealed that the partial substitution of FA by the tannins improved the fixation of the chemicals impregnated in ***,dimensional stability,leaching resistance,Brinell hardness,modulus of elasticity/modulus of rupture,and decay durability properties of the furfurylated wood were also improved in the presence of *** electron microscopy revealed the deposition of the polymer in the wood lumen cells and in the wood cell walls.

With this study,the hydrocarbon generation potential of Miocene aged coals around Arguvan-Parçikan in the northern district of Malatya province was evaluated with the aid of petrological and organic geochemical *** to organic petrography,coal quality data,and low thermal maturity,the Arguvan-Parçikan coals are of high-ash,high-sulfur subbituminous B/C *** organic fraction of the coals is mostly comprised of humic group macerals,with small percentages derived from the inertinite and liptinite *** mineral matter of the coals is comprised mainly of calcite and clay *** total organic carbon(TOC,wt%)values of the shale and coal samples are between 2.61 wt%and 43.02 wt%,and the hydrogen index values are between 73 and 229 mg HC/g ***(T_(max),PI),huminite/vitrinite reflectance(R_(o),%),and biomarker ratios CPI,Pr/Ph ratio,Ts/(Ts+Tm)ratio,C_(32) homohopane ratio(22S/22S+22R)and C_(29)ββ/(ββ+ααsterane ratio)indicate that the organic matter of the studied coals is thermally *** all these data are taken together,Miocene aged coals around Arguvan are suitable for hydrocarbon generation,especially gas,in terms of organic matter type(Type III and Type II/III mixed),organic matter amount(>10 wt%TOC),however,low liptinitic macerals(<15%–20%),low hydrogen index(<200 mg HC/g TOC)and low thermal maturity values inhibit the hyrocarbon generation.

Objective:To examine the effects of human bocavirus type 1(HBoV1)on the course of lower respiratory tract infections in cases of monoinfection and coinfection,and the effects of HBoV1 viral load on the disease in children under six years old hospitalized with a diagnosis of HBoV1-associated lower respiratory tract ***:Children under six years of age,who were hospitalized with the diagnosis of lower respiratory tract infection due to HBoV1 between 1 January 2021 and 1 January 2022 were included in the *** confirmation of the respiratory pathogens was performed using polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Results:Fifty-four(16.4%)children with HBoV1 among 329 children whose PCR was positive with bacterial/viral agent in nasopharyngeal swab samples were included in the *** were 28(51.9%)males and 26(48.1%)females with a median age 23.4 months[interquartile range(IQR):13.2,30.0 months](min-max:1 month-68 months).HBoV1 was detected as a monoinfecton in 26(48.1%)children,and as a coinfection with other respiratory agents in 28 children(51.9%).In multiple regression analysis,coinfection(P=0.032)was associated with the length of hospitalization(Pay and need for intensive *** was found to affect the length of hospitalization.

This study evaluates the toxicological and biochemical response of two-spotted spider mites to clofentezine selection pressure. The mortality rate of Tetranychus urticae in adult females depends on increased clofentezine concentration and clofentezine was found to be effective against females. The resistance rate of the CUM strain selected 12 times once per generation with clofentezine was increased from 1.28- to 105.27-fold. The interaction of some synergists with clofentezine was analyzed in the clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain. Synergists had no effect on clofentezine toxicity. The clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain showed resistance against chlorpyrifos, abamectin, propargite, fenpyroximate and amitraz. The modes of inheritance of resistance to clofentezine were found to be incompletely dominant and not sex-linked. Esterase enzyme activity was detected both by gel electrophoresis and microplate reader methods, while glutathione S-transferase （GST） and monooxygenase （P450） activity were detected only by the microplate reader method. During the selection period the esterase, the GST and the P450 enzymes activities were raised from 7.69, 7.09 and 0.003 3 to 18.40, 13.11 and 0.003 7 milli-optical density/rain/rag proteins, respectively. An increase was observed in the band intensity of esterases and esterase enzymes may play a role in clofentezine resistance in T. urticae.

The hardness,wettability,and electrochemical properties of Ti6Al4V alloy surfaces treated with anodic oxidation and plasma oxidation as well as the viabilities of the different cell lines on the obtained surfaces were *** anodic oxidation was performed for 10 min under 100 V potential,and it resulted in a 0.95μm thick nanoporous anatase-TiO2 *** the other hand,plasma oxidation was carried out at 650℃ for 1 h and resulted in a dense rutile-TiO2 structure with a thickness of 1.2μ*** a hardness of HV0.025823 and roughness of^220 nm were obtained by plasma oxidation,those obtained by anodic oxidation were HV0.025512 and^130 nm,*** anodic oxidation process created a more hydrophilic surface with a contact angle of 87.2°.Both oxidation processes produced similar properties in terms of corrosion behavior and showed better resistance than the as-received state in a certain range of ***,the surface treatments led to no significant change in the protein adsorption levels,which indicates that the difference in viability between the osteoblast and fibroblast cells was not due to the difference in surface protein *** all the factors,the surfaces obtained by anodic oxidation treatment revealed higher cell viability than those obtained by plasma oxidation(p=0.05).

While periodontal (PD) disease is among principal causes of tooth loss worldwide, regulation of concomitant soft and mineralized PD tissues, and PD pathogenesis have not been completely clarified yet. Besides, relevant pre-clinical models and in vitro platforms have limitations in simulating human physiology. Here, we have harnessed three-dimensional bioprinting (3DBP) technology for developing a multi-cellular microtissue model resembling PD ligament-alveolar bone (PDL-AB) biointerface for the first time. 3DBP parameters were optimized;the physical, chemical, rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties of the constructs were assessed. Constructs containing gelatin methacryloyl (Gel-MA) and hydroxyapatite-magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles showed higher level of compressive strength when compared with that of Gel-MA constructs. Bioprinted self-supporting microtissue was cultured under flow in a microfluidic platform for >10 days without significant loss of shape fidelity. Confocal microscopy analysis indicated that encapsulated cells were homogenously distributed inside the matrix and preserved their viability for >7 days under microfluidic conditions. Immunofluorescence analysis showed the cohesion of stromal cell surface marker-1+ human PDL fibroblasts containing PDL layer with the osteocalcin+ human osteoblasts containing mineralized layer in time, demonstrating some permeability of the printed constructs to cell migration. Preliminary tetracycline interaction study indicated the uptake of model drug by the cells inside the 3D-microtissue. Also, the non-toxic levels of tetracycline were determined for the encapsulated cells. Thus, the effects of tetracyclines on PDL-AB have clinical significance for treating PD diseases. This 3D-bioprinted multi-cellular periodontal/osteoblastic microtissue model has potential as an in vitro platform for studying processes of the human PDL.
