Epidemiological and Clinical Features of the Preterms Followed-Up at Our Clinic in Turkey: A Study about 458 Infants

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate 458 infants, who were followed up due to retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), demographically and epidemiologically. Methods: 458 infants with ROP, who were referred from our hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit and from other health centers to our clinic for the staging and treatment between February 2016 and December 2017, were studied retrospectively. Design: Retrospective-observational study. Results: Of the 458 infants, 243 infants (53.06%) did not have ROP and they were at a mean of 32nd (26 - 35) gestational week, weighing a mean of 1700 (820 - 2830) gr. The remaining 215 (46.94%) infants were diagnosed with ROP at various stages and they were at a mean of 29th (23 - 35) gestational week, weighing a mean of 1180 (490 - 2850) gr. Of the infants without ROP, 116 (47.7%) were females and 127 (52.3%) were males. The mean duration of stay at the incubator was a mean of 16.5 (0 - 120) days and the mean duration of follow-up was a mean of 43 (40 - 56) weeks. 103 (40.2%) of them were breastfed only. Of the infants with ROP at various stages, 95 (44.2%) were females, and 120 (55.8%) were males. The mean duration of stay at the incubator was 42 (6 - 195) days, and the mean duration of follow-up was 48 (40 - 73) weeks. 43 (20.0%) of them were breastfed only. 32 (13.2%) infants without ROP were born of multi-fetal pregnancies. Only 1 of them was born as one of the triplets. Of the babies with ROP;56 (26.04%) were born of multi-fetal pregnancies, 5 of them being triplets. The numerical values of the gestational week at birth and the birth weight, and the rates of breastfeeding were lower in infants with ROP compared to the ones without it (p 0.05, Conclusions: This study showed that the gestational age, birth weight, breastfeeding rates, birth history and follow-up periods of multiple fetal pregnancies were different in ROP infants compared to non-ROP infants.

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) collaboration opens new opportunities where systems can collaborate without any human intervention and solve engineering problems efficiently and effectively. M2M is widely used for various application areas. Through this reported project authors developed a M2M system where a drone and two ground vehicles collaborate through a base station to implement a system that can be utilized for an indoor search and rescue operation. The model training for drone flight paths achieves almost 100% accuracy. It was also observed that the accuracy of the model increased with more training samples. Both the drone flight path and ground vehicle navigation are controlled from the base station. Machine learning is utilized for modelling of drone’s flight path as well as for ground vehicle navigation through obstacles. The developed system was implemented on a field trial within a corridor of a building, and it was demonstrated successfully.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV) which was originally recognized as posttransfusion non-A, non-B hepatitis has been amajor global health problem affecting 3% of the world population. Interferon/peginterferon and ribavirin combination therapy was the backbone of chronic HCV therapy for two decades of the journey. However, the interferon based treatment success rate was around 50% with many side effects. Many chronic HCV patients with psychiatric diseases, or even cytopenias, were ineligible for HCV treatment. Now, we no longer need any injectable medicine. New direct-acting antiviral agents against HCV allowed the advance of interferonfree and ribavirin-free oral regimens with high rates of response and tolerability. The cost of the medications should not be a barrier to their access in certain parts of the world. While we are getting closer, we should still focus on preventing the spread of the disease, screening and delivering the cure globally to those in need. In the near future, development of an effective vaccine against HCV would make it possible to eradicate HCV infection worldwide completely.

Objective: To investigate the expression of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the correlation between TLR expression and mucosal changes in chronic sinusitis-related nasal polyposis. Methods: Patients with nasal polyps were enrolled in this study as the study group. The control group consisted of individuals undergoing surgery due to nasal obstruction caused by concha hypertrophy who were not diagnosed with chronic sinusitis-related nasal polyposis (NP). There were 30 patients in the study group (individuals with NP) and 20 patients in the control group. Sterile tissue samples were taken from the patients and were kept at -80°C. A piece of tissue sample was put into the eppendorf tube. Expression of TLR2 and TLR4 gene was investigated in the tissue samples. The samples were taken after the surgery;they were carried into the liquid nitrogen and were kept at -80° C before study. Results: TLR2 and TLR4 expression was measured in both groups and then analyzed using Student’s t-test. In the experimental group, the level of TLR2 expression was significantly higher than in the control group (P y different between the two groups (P = 0.656). Conclusion: TLRs are thought to play a role in the etiopathogenesis of NP. In addition, the authors consider that a possible treatment for NP could be a TLR-specific treatment. Thus, in the future it will be essential to determine the extent to which TLRs function in NP formation and to apply this knowledge to design a specific therapeutic regimen for the enhanced treatment of NP.

In this article we consider a class of multiagent dynamic systems with uncertainties and the problem of moving in a predefined formation along a reference trajectory. The reference trajectory is generated by switched exosystems each of which are neutrally stable and have unknown parameters. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear servomechanism problem and an adaptive internal model based controller is used to solve this problem. Various formation maneuvers such as expansion/contraction, rotation, and reconfiguration （change of shape） are also considered. The performance of the system is verified with simple numerical simulations.

BACKGROUND There is increasing interest in transplanting patients with hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC) with tumors greater than 5 cm (Milan criteria).AIM To investigate possible prognostically-useful factors for liver transplantation inHCC patients with large *** In this clinical study, 50 patients with HCC who were transplanted at our LiverTransplant Center between April 2006 and August 2019 and had tumors greaterthan 6 cm maximum diameter were retrospectively analyzed. Their survival andfull clinical characteristics were examined, with respect to serum alphafetoprotein(AFP) and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) levels. Kaplan-Meier survival estimates were used to determine overall survival and disease-freesurvival in these patients. The inclusion criterion was evidence of HCC. Exclusioncriteria were the presence of macroscopic portal vein thrombosis or metastasisand a follow-up period of less than 90 *** Using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, cutoff values of AFP200 ng/mL and GGT 104 IU/L were identified and used in this *** longer overall survival (OS) and disease-free-survival (DFS) were found in patients who had lower values of either parameter, compared withhigher values. Even greater differences in survival were found when the 2parameters were combined. Two tumor size bands were identified, in searchingfor the limits of this approach with larger tumors, namely 6-10 cm and > 10 *** parameters in the 6-10 cm band reflected 5-year OS of 76.2% inpatients with low AFP plus low GGT vs 0% for all other groups.
