Peltier cell calorimetry is a powerful technique to record both the heat capacity and the latent heat,yet its avail-ability is limited as it often requires homemade dedicated ***,we describe the development of a Peltier cell differential scanning calorimeter facilitating the accessibility to the technique,since it is designed“as an option”for commonplace commercial cryostats equipped with high magnetic *** yields an appa-ratus well suited to detailed studies of magnetic transitions in general and of first-order magnetic transitions in *** magnetocaloric materials,our system can also be used to measure directly the isothermal entropy changeΔS induced by a magnetic field change;it even allows separating the cyclic(reversible)effect due to suc-cessive magnetization/demagnetization,which is the one relevant for applications,from the total magnetocaloric *** illustrate the versatility of this system,a thorough study of the ferromagnetic first-order transition of MnFe0.95 P0.585 Si_(0.34)B_(0.075)is carried *** exceptionally large cyclic entropy change at an intermediate field is observed in this compound,ΔS_(cyclic)=13.2 J kg^(−1)K^(−1)forμ_(0)ΔH=1 *** confirms that MnFe(P,Si,B)shows one of the most promising giant magnetocaloric effects to be used in emergent green technologies such as mag-netocaloric cooling,heating or thermomagnetic waste heat recovery.

Digital surgery for gastroenterological diseases

While magnetization measurements are by far the most commonly used method to quantify the magnetocaloric effect, they may overlook some exotic phenomena sometimes occurring at first-order magnetic transitions. These features actually require thermal methods to be observed. La(Fe,Si)13 is one of the archetypical example of alloys with a giant magnetocaloric effect associated to a first-order magnetic transition. Recent Peltier cell calorimetry studies have revealed that the exchange of latent heat at the transition can take the form of a succession of individual peaks as a function of time. Here, using various thermal techniques such as Peltier cell calorimetry, commercial differential scanning calorimeter, semi-adiabatic calorimetry and thermal analyses;we show that the first-order transition can also be accompanied by other unusual features including recalescence/anti-recalescence(a burst-like temperature change at the beginning of the transformation), reverse trend(a general cooling of the sample when heating across the transition) or a two-step transition(a burst-like acceleration near the end of the transformation) [1-3]. In all cases, a basic requirement is a large latent heat confined within a small temperature range, which can lead to a transition profile very different from an ideal first-order transition, see Figure 1. We will discuss the conditions for the observation of these particular thermal responses, which also raise questions on dynamical aspects of the transition, i.e. how the first-order transition of La(Fe,Si)13 develop in time and space.

Physiological stress takes place in the endoplasmicreticulum （ER） of cells where activation and up-regulationof genes and proteins are primarily induced to enhancepro-survival mechanisms such as the unfolded protein response （UPR）. A dominant protein in the UPR response is the heat shock GRP78 protein. Although GRP78 is primarily located in the ER, under certain conditions it is transported to the cell surface, where it acts as a receptor inducing pathways of cell signaling such as proliferation or apoptosis. In the prolonged chronic stress transportation of the GRP78 from the ER to the cell membrane is a major event where in addition to the presentation of the GRP78 as a receptor to various ligands, it also marks the cells that will proceed to apoptotic pathways. In the normal cell that under stress acquires cell surface GRP78 and in the tumor cell that already presents cell surface GRP78, cell surface GRP78 is an apoptotic fag. The internalization of GRP78 from the cell surface in normal cells by ligands such as peptides will enhance cell survival and alleviate cardiovascular ischemic diseases. The absence of cell surface GRP78 in the tumor cells portends proliferative and metastatic tumors. Pharmacological induction of cell surface GRP78 will induce the process of apoptosis and might be used as a therapeutic modality for cancer treatment.

Objective: To report the ocular structure and visual acuity outcomes at age 15 years, and the incidence of retinal detachment between 10 and 15 years of age, for patients in the Multicenter Trial of Cryotherapy for Retinopathy of Prematurity (CRYO-ROP). Methods: Subjects were 254 survivors from 291 preterm children with birth weights less than 1251 g and severe (threshold) retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in one or both eyes, who participated in the CRYO-ROP trial. At age 15 years, unfavorable ocular structure was posterior retinal fold or worse judged by study-certified ophthalmologists. Unfavorable distance visual acuity was 20/200 or worse measured by studycertified testers using Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study recognition acuity charts. Results: Thirty percent of treated eyes and 51.9% of control eyes (P vorable structural outcomes. Between 10 and 15 years of age, new retinal folds, detachments, or obscuring of the view of the posterior pole occurred in 4.5% of treated and 7.7% of control eyes. Unfavorable visual acuity outcomeswere found in 44.7% of treated and 64.3% of control eyes (P visual function, was maintained across 15 years of follow-up. New retinal detachments, even in eyes with relatively good structural findings at age 10 years, suggest value in long-term, regular follow-up of eyes that experience threshold ROP.

Over the last ten years artificial intelligence(AI)methods have begun to pervade even the most common everyday tasks such as email filtering and mobile *** the necessary quality and safety standards may have understandably slowed the introduction of AI to healthcare when compared with other industries,we are now beginning to see AI methods becoming more available to the clinician in select *** this paper we discuss current AI methods as they pertain to gastrointestinal procedures including both gastroenterology and gastrointestinal *** current state of the art for polyp detection in gastroenterology is explored with a particular focus on deep leaning,its strengths,as well as some of the factors that may limit its application to the field of *** use of biophysics(utilizing physics to study and explain biological phenomena)in combination with more traditional machine learning is also discussed and proposed as an alternative approach that may solve some of the challenges associated with deep *** and present uses of biophysics inspired AI methods,such as the use of fluorescence guided surgery to aid in the characterization of colorectal lesions,are used to illustrate the role biophysicsinspired AI can play in the exciting future of the gastrointestinal proceduralist.

Conservation of endangered plant species requires a prerequisite basic knowledge of their taxonomy and *** in the Cordillera Central Range,several species have not been studied,even though this area harbors a unique type of vegetation not found in other parts of the *** study documents the morpho-anatomical characteristics of Rhododendron subsessile Rendle,one of the unique and endangered fl ora in the *** species exhibits a morphology typical of plants in high elevations,being a hardy shrub with small tough leaves,and showy pink fl owers that rival those of commercial rhododendron *** fi ndings on the species morphology include a variable number of corolla lobes,stamens and a description of its fruits and *** anatomical features of the species are reported here for the fi rst *** plant exhibits a typical dicot anatomy with dorsiventral leaves,woody stem and root system with the usual arrangement of periderm followed by secondary phloem,vascular cambium,secondary xylem with vessel elements and pith(in the case of the stem).A unique characteristic was identifi ed as the biseriate upper epidermis of the *** themorphological and anatomical features of the species should prove valuable as input baseline information in formulating measures for its conservation.

背景护理现场检验已被广泛应用于美国的家庭医学诊所。尽管诊断产业界预计护理现场检验在使用次数上会越来越多,使用范围会越来越广,但是临床医务人员对护理现场检验的看法还鲜为人知。本文旨在调查基层医务人员、实验室及临床行政/支持人员视角下的在家庭医学中应用护理现场检验的有利及不利因素。方法来自于美国两个州3家诊所的52名员工被分为7组,对其进行4场半结构式访谈。使用持续比较法对本研究中的定性资料进行分析。结果调查结果显示以下几个方面对临床决策产生影响:护理现场检验结果的不准确性,护理现场检验对医务人员及工作流程的影响,患者经历及医患关系,以及涉及护理现场检验成本、监管与质量控制的相关事务。总体来说,研究对象对使用护理现场检验持有不同的态度。不过其相信护理现场检验提供的额外数据可能有利于临床治疗、准确诊断以及医患交流。开展护理现场检验遇到的不利因素包括护理现场检验结果的不准确性,缺少医务人员支持更多的检验项目,以及开展这种检验成本效益的不确定性。结论在家庭医学诊所中开展护理现场检验既存在有利因素也存在不利因素。此种检验的应用程度取决于这些不利因素的解决情况。临床研究人员、诊断产业、健康保险机构以及社区医疗的通力协作可以确保护理现场检验满足临床和患者的需求。
