Surface morphology-optical properties relationship in thermochromic vO_(2) thin films obtained by air oxidation of vanadium nitride

In this paper,vanadium nitride(vN)thin films have been deposited on Al substrates by reactive magnetron *** vO_(2) films have been obtained by air oxidation of vN samples performed at three temperatures(450,525 and 550℃)at various durations(lower than 50 min).X-ray diffraction and Raman spectrometry of the vN oxidized films indicate that vO_(2) and v2O5 are the only phases produced during the oxidation *** dioxide is the first oxide *** coexists with vN in a long period at 450℃ or suddenly disappears at 525 and 550℃.whatever the temperature,v2O5 is exclusively detected after the total oxidation of *** oxide is detrimental to the thermochromic performance of *** emissivity-switching properties of the oxidized films were analyzed by infrared camera in the 7.5e13 mm *** comparison among all the samples exhibiting a thermochromic behavior shows that the maximum emissivity switch is independent of the oxidation temperature and the surface morphology of the *** results could open a new strategy in the investigation of vN oxidation as a method to obtain vO_(2),along with an insight into the correlation between surface morphology and optical properties.

Spinal Clinic for Obese Out-Patient Project (SCOOP)—A 1 Year Report

Patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) appear to be at higher risk of becoming overweight after their injury. This 12 month study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a dietitian-led clinic. Thirty-eight patients with chronic SCI with a body mass index (BMI) range of 26.4 - 46.4 kg/m2 were referred for three consultations over a three month period for dietetic advice covering nutrition, exercise and behaviour change. Body composition was estimated by anthropometric measurements of BMI, mid upper-arm circumference (MUAC), triceps-skinfold thickness (TSF), mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC) and sitting blood pressure. Nineteen individuals completed the three month intervention. There were significant reductions in weight (kg: 103.1 v 97.8, P 2: 35.5 v 34.0, P v 24.7, P = 0.019), and sitting systolic blood pressure (mm Hg: 134 v 101, P = 0.015), and an increase in MAMC (cm: 29.5 v 30.0, P = 0.045). we conclude that a simple dietetic intervention can help individuals with SCI to lose weight without compromising lean body mass. Although the intervention incurred additional cost, it has the potential to decrease long-term healthcare expenditure if patients’ outcome and quality of life are improved.

In order to develop new lead-free pieozoelectric/ferroelectric materials,the y(K_(0.5)Na_(0.5))NbO_(3)-(1-y)[(1-x)Bi_(0.5)K_(0.5)TiO_(3-x)BaTiO_(3)]solid solution system is synthesized and the partial ternary phase diagram in the KNN-rich region with compositions of y=0.98 to y=0.96 is *** the compositions studied show a gradual phase change from a tetragonal to an orthorhombic structure as the BT component increases.A mixture of tetragonal and orthor-hombic phases is found in the composition range of x=0.25 to 0.60 and y=0.97,and x=0.50 to 0.75 and y=0.96,indicating a ternary morphotropic phase boundary *** piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of the 0.97(KNN)-0.03[0.60BKT-0.40BT]ceramics are *** increase in remnant polarization as compared with pure KNN shows improved ferroe-lectricity by forming the ternary solid solution.

Titanium machining poses a great challenge to cutting tools, and yields serious negative influence on tool life. Cutting tools wear rapidly in titanium alloys machining due to the high cutting temperature, strong adhesion at the tool/chip interface and tool/workpiece interface. Thus, cooling supply strategies are widely used in its machining process. On account of this, the tool wear performance from dry cutting, flood cooling and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) techniques are compared so as to find an effective cooling supply strategy in titanium cutting. Experimental results proved that MQL aided machining can remarkably and reliably improve tool life in end milling titanium machining Ti-6AI-4v under the varied cutting speed, feed rate and radial depth of cut.

Al-and Ag-based top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes (TOLED) are *** MoO and vO have been used as hole-injection layer (HIL).The performance of the devices is significantly improved using the metal oxides as HIL.A C545T-doped Alq TOLED with Al and MoO can achieve a maximum current efficiency of 22 cd/A at 20 mA/ *** power efficiency is 20 lm/w at a low brightness and about 8.9 lm/w at 1 000 cd/*** the Ag-based TOLED using vO as HIL,very low operating voltages are *** instance,1000 cd/m can be obtained at a voltage of 4.7 v with a power efficiency of about 10 lm/*** the analysis of the current-voltage characteristics of the single-hole transport layer devices,it is believed that the hole injection from the metal anodes was greatly enhanced be- cause of the lowering of the injection barrier induced by the metal oxides.

Porphyrins and their derivatives have been extensive studied as photosensitizers in DSSCs and donor materials in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells(BHJ OSC) because of their excellent thermal stability,efficient light-harvesting ability,and high susceptibility in electron-transfer ***,we first reported the use of acceptor-donor-acceptor(A-D-A) structural porphyrin small molecules as donor materials in organic solar cells that facilitates delocalized π-conjugation and π-stacking in the solid state,and the large planar π-conjugation macrocycles can ensures high carrier mobility and efficient intermolecular charge transfer in the π-stacking direction.[1,2] The structural engineering with either different peripheral substitutions or various aromatic linkers on porphyrin core,can simultaneously facilitate better solubility,stronger intermolecular π-π stacking and higher charge transfer mobility in film,leading to the highest PCE of 9.50% in the conventional ***,our recent work demonstrated that the symmetrical meso-aryl substituted porphyrins can applied as hole transport materials(HTMs) in organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites solar cells(PSCs).For their suitable energy level,efficient exciton dissociation and charge transfer in HTM/perovskite films,the best power conversion efficiency of 17.78%(JSC = 22.68 mA cm,vOC = 1.099 v,FF = 71.3%) has been achieved for the zinc(II) porphyrin *** represents the highest PCE among those ever reported for porphyrin-and phthalocyanine-based HTMs in PSCs.

ABSTRACT Embedding submicrocavities is an effective approach to improve the light out-coupling efficiency(LOCE)for planar perovskite light-emitting diodes(PeLEDs).In this work,we employ phenethylammonium iodide(PEAI)to trigger the Ostwald ripening for the downward recrystallization of perovskite,resulting in spontaneous formation of buried submicrocavities as light output *** simulation suggests the buried submicrocavities can improve the LOCE from 26.8 to 36.2%for near-infrared ***,PeLED yields peak external quantum efficiency(EQE)increasing from 17.3%at current density of 114 mA cm^(−2)to 25.5%at current density of 109 mA cm^(−2)and a radiance increasing from 109 to 487 w sr^(−1)m^(−2)with low *** turn-on voltage decreased from 1.25 to 1.15 v at 0.1 w sr^(−1)m^(−2).Besides,downward recrystallization process slightly reduces the trap density from 8.90×10^(15)to 7.27×10^(15)cm^(−3).This work provides a self-assembly method to integrate buried output coupler for boosting the performance of PeLEDs.

The oxidation states of Ge nanoparticles in the surface layer of Ge/Si film were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. New features appeared at the high binding energy side of the XPS Ge 3d peak when samples were annealed in atmosphere, which were caused by the large interfacial area between the Ge and Si nanoparticles, as well as by the change in environment of the Ge nanoparticles and the oxidation states of Ge and Si.

The aging population is an important issue around the world especially in developed *** med-ical advances have substantially extended life span,the same cannot be said for the duration of health *** are seeing in-creasing numbers of elderly people who are frail and/or have multiple chronic conditions;all of these can affect the quality of life of the elderly population as well as increase the burden on the healthcare *** is mechanistically related to common medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus,ischemic heart disease,cognitive decline,and frailty.A recently accepted concept termed‘Accelerated Biological Aging’can be diagnosed when a person’s biological age—as measured by biomarkers of DNA methylation—is older than their corresponding chronological ***,a conditionally essential amino acid,has received much attention in the past few years.A substantial number of animal studies have provided a strong scientific foundation sug-gesting that this amino acid can improve cellular and metabolic health,including blood glucose control,so much that it has been labelled one of the‘longevity amino acids’.In this review article,we propose the rationale that an adequately powered random-ized-controlled-trial(RCT)is needed to confirm whether taurine can meaningfully improve metabolic and microbiome health,and biological *** trial should incorporate certain elements in order to provide the much-needed evidence to guide doctors,and also the community at large,to determine whether this promising and inexpensive amino acid is useful in improving human metabolic health.
