Lake Chany is the largest endorheic lake in Siberia whose catchment is entirely on the territory of *** geographical location on the climate-sensitive boundary of wet and dry landscapes provides an opportunity to gain more knowledge about environmental changes in the West Siberian interior during the Holocene and about the evolution of the lake *** cores obtained from the Yarkov subbasin of the lake in 2008 have been comprehensively studied by a number of approaches including sedimentology and AMS dating,pollen,diatom and chironomid analyses(with statistical interpretation of the results),mineralogy of authigenic minerals and geochemistry of plant lipids(biomarker analysis.).Synthesis of new results presented here and published data provides a good justification for our hypothesis that Lake Chany is very young,no older than 3.6 ka *** that,between 9 and 3.6 ka BP,the Chany basin was a swampy landscape with a very low sedimentation rate;it could not be identified as a water *** the early lake phase,between 3.6 and 1.5 ka BP,the lake was shallow,1.2–3.5 m in depth,and it rose to its modern size,up to 6.5 m in depth,during the last *** data reveal important changes in the understanding of the history of this large endorheic lake,as before it was envisioned as a large lake with significant changes in water level since ca.14 ka *** addition to hydrology,our proxies provide updates and details of the regional vegetation and climate change since ca.4 ka BP in the WestSiberian forest-steppe and *** evolution of the Chany basin is dependent on hydroclimatic changes in a large region of southern West Siberia,we compare lake-level change and climate-change proxies from the other recently and most comprehensively studied lakes of the region.

Hepatitis C virus NS5A region mutation in chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 patients who are non-responders to two or more treatments and its relationship with response to a new treatment

To determine the number of mutations in the NS5A region of the hepatitis C virus (HCv) and its relationship to the response to antiviral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 who are non-responders to two or more treatments. METHODSSequences within HCv NS5A [PKR binding domain (PKRBD) and the interferon-sensitivity-determining region (ISDR)] were analysed via direct sequencing in a selected cohort of 72 patients, with a total of 201 treatments [interferon-alpha (IFN-α), n = 49; IFN-α + ribavirin (RBv), n = 75; pegylated (peg) IFN-α + RBv, n = 47; first-generation direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), n = 13; and second-generation DAAs, n = 17]. Of these, 48/201 achieved a sustained virological response (SvR) and 153/201 achieved no virological response (NvR). RESULTSFor both regions, treatments resulting in SvR were associated with more baseline mutations than were treatments resulting in NvR (SvR vs NvR; PKRBD: 5.82 ± 3 vs 4.86 ± 2 mutations, P = 0.045; ISDR: 2.65 ± 2 vs 1.51 ± 1.7 mutations, P = 0.005). A decrease or no change in the number of mutations over time between treatments in the PKRBD or ISDR, as shown by sequencing, was associated with patients who usually failed to respond to treatment (PKRBD, P = 0.02; ISDR, P = 0.001). Moreover, patients showing a post-treatment baseline viral load > 600000 IU/mL and increased ISDR mutations with respect to the previous treatment were 9.21 times more likely to achieve SvR (P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONThe obtained results show that among patients who have shown no response to two or more antiviral treatments, the likelihood of achieving SvR increases with the genetic variability in the ISDR region (≥ 2 mutations or number of substitutions from the HCv-J and HCv-1 prototype), especially when the viral load is greater than 600000 IU/mL.

Pitting Corrosion Behaviour of Monel-400 Alloy in Chloride Solutions

Pitting corrosion behaviour of Monel-400 alloy in 3.5 wt pct NaCl sodium chloride solution has been investigated using the cyclic potentiodynamic anodic polarization technique. The effect of chloride ion concentration, pH values and difFerent temperatures on the pitting parameters were determined. The morphology of the pits produced after anodic polarization treatments was inspected by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicated that, the increase in chloride ion concentration shifts Epit and Eprot of the alloy toward negative values and the pitting potential is much more dependent on pH value in the basic region. The breakdown of passivity with increasing temperature may be due to kinetic changes of passivating films and dissolution rate of the alloy in its passive state

Synthesis of self-assembled nanorod vanadium oxide bundles by sonochemical treatment

Self-assembled nanorod of vanadium oxide bundles were synthesized by treating bulk v2O5 with high intensity sonochemical technique. The synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscope （SEM）, transmission electron microscope （TEM） and temperature-programmed reduction （TPR） in H2. Catalytic behaviour of the materials over anaerobic n-butane oxidation was studied through temperature-programmed reaction （TPRn）. Catalytic evaluation of the sonochemical treated v2O5 products was also studied on microreactor. XRD patterns of all the vanadium samples were perfectly indexed to v2O5. The morphologies of the nanorod vanadium oxides as shown in SEM and TEM depended on the duration of the ultrasound irradiation. Prolonging the ultrasound irradiation duration resulted in materials with uniform, well defined shapes and surface structures and smaller size of nanorod vanadium oxide bundles. H2-TPR profiles showed that larger amount of oxygen species were removed from the nanorod v2O5 compared to the bulk. Furthermore, the nanorod vanadium oxide bundles, which were produced after 90, 120 and 180 min of sonochemical treatment, showed an additional reduction peak at lower temperature （-850 K）, suggesting the presence of some highly active oxygen species. TPRn in n-butane/He over these materials showed that the nanorod v2O5 with highly active oxygen species showed markedly higher activity than the bulk material, which was further proven by catalytic oxidation of n-butane.

Identification of Hammerstein-Wiener model with discontinuous input nonlinearity

This paper deals with the identification of Hammerstein-Wiener models with an irregular function in the input block. These models comprise a set of linear segments. The linear time invariant(LTI) block may be parametric or nonparametric. The nonlinearity of the output can be any continuous function of arbitrary shape; it is not necessarily assumed to be invertible. Subsequently, sine inputs will be used to identify the system parameters. First, the output nonlinearity is determined by filtering the system output and varying the phase of a given reference sine signal; second, the parameters of the linear block can be determined for any frequency; and finally, the input nonlinearity can be obtained by changing the offset and amplitude of the input sine signal.

Primary dendrite growth kinetics and rapid solidification mechanism of highly undercooled Ti-Al alloys

The rapid solidification processes of undercooled Ti-(47,50,54)at.%Al alloys were investigated by electromagnetic levitation(EML)method combined with a high-speed photoelectric *** maximum undercoolings of the three liquid alloys were 376 K,352 K and 316 K,*** processes corresponding to the primary dendrite growth and subsequent phase transition were recorded at various *** primary dendrite growth velocity v meets a double exponential relationship with the undercooling ***,a novel formula with physical meaning is proposed to explain that the more ordered liquid metal atoms accelerate the primary dendrite *** recalescences are found at all undercoolings for Ti-47 at.%Al alloy and at high undercoolings for Ti-50 at.%Al *** microstructures of solidified Ti-47 at.%Al alloys successively appear as coarse lamellar dendrites and finally evolve to refined parallel lamellar dendrites with the increasing *** T rises,the microstructures of solidified Ti-50 at.%Al alloys appear from coarse primary dendrites and interdendritic dendrites to refined lamellar *** the process from low undercooling to high undercooling,the primary phase of undercooled Ti-54 at.%Al alloys changes from r-Ti(r)to r-TiAl(r)and the microstructures of solidified alloys evolve from spherical primary dendrites and matrix phases to cellular dendrite ***,for the Ti-(47,50)at.%Al,the transformation temperature of metastable intermediateγphase decreases with the increase of ***,the microhardness of the three solidified alloys reaches the maximum when the undercoolings are 185 K,270 K and 316 K,respectively.
