Development of growth rate, body lipid,moisture,and energy models for white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) fed at various feeding rates

The objectives were to develop and evaluate: 1) growth rate models, 2) body lipid, moisture, and energy models for white sturgeon fed at various feeding rates(FR; % body weight [BW] per day) and then evaluate responses at proportions of optimum feeding rate(oFR) across increasing BW(g). For objective1,19 datasets from the literature containing initial BW, FR and specific growth rate(SGR; % BW increase per day) were used. For objective 2.12 datasets from the literature(11 from objective 1) containing SGR,FR,final BW,body lipid(%),protein(%),ash(%),moisture(%),and energy(kJ/g) were used. The average rearing temperatures was 19.2 ± 1.5 ℃(mean ± SD). The average nutrient compositions and gross energy of the diets were 45.7 ± 4.3% protein,14.8 ± 3.2% lipid, and 20.4 ± 1.3 kJ/g,respectively. The logistic model was used for objectives 1 and 2 to develop a statistical relationship between SGR and FR, then an iterative technique was used to estimate oFR for each dataset. For objective 2, the statistical relationship between body lipid, energy, and moisture and FR was established. Using the oFR estimate, SGR, body lipid, energy and moisture were computed at various FR as a proportion of oFR, Finally, a nonparametric fitting procedure was used to establish relationships between SGR, body lipid, energy and moisture(responses)compared with BW(predictor) at various proportions of oFR. This allows visualization of the effect of under-or over-feeding on the various responses. When examining the differences between oFR at 100%and various proportions of oFR, SGR differences decrease and moisture differences increase as BW increases. Lipid and energy differences decrease as BW increases. To our knowledge, these are the first description of changes in nutrient compositions when white sturgeon are fed at various FR. A single-stage plasma-catalytic reactor in which catalytic materials werepacked was used to remove nitrogen oxides. The packing material was scoria being made of variousmetal oxides including Al_2o_3, Mgo, Tio_2, etc. Scoria was able to act not only as dielectricpellets but also as a catalyst in the presence of reducing agent such as ethylene and *** plasma discharge, scoria did not work well as a catalyst in the temperature range of 100 ℃to 200 ℃, showing less than 10% of Nox removal efficiency. When plasma is produced inside thereactor, the Nox removal efficiency could be increased to 60% in this temperature range.

The expression of retinoblastoma and several retinoblastoma-related genes was studied in glioma cell line U87 and its subline with knockdown of ERN1 (endoplasmic reticulum—nuclei-1), the main endoplasmic reticulum stress sensing and signaling enzyme. It was shown that a blockade of the ERN1 enzyme function increases the expression levels of retinoblastoma, retinoblastoma-like 1 and most retinoblastoma related genes: EID1, JARID1B, E2F1, E2F3, RBAP48 and CTIP, does not change RNF40 and RBAP46 and decreases KDM5A. We have also demonstrated that hypoxia reduces the expression levels of retinoblastoma, EID1, and E2F1 in ERN1-deficient glioma cells only. At the same time, the expression levels of retinoblastoma-like 1, E2F3, RBAP46, RBAP48 and CTIP decrease, while JARID1B and RBBP2 increase in both types of cells in hypoxic conditions, but the expression is much stronger in cells with suppressed function of ERN1. The expression level of JARID1B and KDM-5A mRNA is also enhanced in glutamine deprivation condition in both tested cell types, moreover, this effect is amplified by the blockade of the ERN1 enzyme function. The expression levels of retinoblastoma, EID1, RBAP48, and E2F3 are decreased in glutamine deprivation condition only in ERN1-deficient glioma cells, but RBL1, CTIP, RBAP46, and E2F1—in both tested cell types with more significant effect in ERN1-deficient cells. Glucose deprivation condition leads to a decrease of expression levels of retinoblastoma, RBL1, E2F3, RBAP46, and RBAP48 in both used cell types and of EID1 and E2F1 only in glioma cells with suppressed function of signaling enzyme ERN1. Thus, expression levels of retinoblastoma and most retinoblastoma-related genes are increased under a blockade of ERN1 enzyme function and significantly changed in hypoxia, glucose or glutamine deprivation conditions both in control U87 cells and ERN1-deficient cells, but inhibition of the unfolded protein response sensor ERN1 predominantly enhances these effects. We report on the use of a fiber-based Mueller-matrix optical coherence tomography(oCT)system with continuous source-polarization modulation for in vivo imaging of early stages of skin cancer in SENCAR mice.A homemade hand-held probe with integrated optical scanning and beam delivering optics was coupled in the sample *** oCT images show the morphological changes in skin resulting from pre-cancerous papilloma formations that are consistent with histology,thus demonstrating the system’s potential for early skin cancer detection.

The particle morphology and surface texture play a major role in influencing mechanical and hydraulic behaviors of sandy soils. This paper presents the use of digital image analysis combined with fractal theory as a tool to quantify the particle morphology and surface texture of two types of quartz sands widely used in the region of vitória, Espírito Santo, southeast of Brazil. The two investigated sands are sampled from different locations. The purpose of this paper is to present a simple, straightforward,reliable and reproducible methodology that can identify representative sandy soil texture *** test results of the soil samples of the two sands separated by sieving into six size fractions are presented and discussed. The main advantages of the adopted methodology are its simplicity, reliability of the results, and relatively low cost. The results show that sands from the coastal spit(BS) have a greater degree of roundness and a smoother surface texture than river sands(RS). The values obtained in the test are statistically analyzed, and again it is confirmed that the BS sand has a slightly greater degree of sphericity than that of the RS sand. Moreover, the RS sand with rough surface texture has larger specific surface area values than the similar BS sand, which agree with the obtained roughness fractal dimensions. The consistent experimental results demonstrate that image analysis combined with fractal theory is an accurate and efficient method to quantify the differences in particle morphology and surface texture of quartz sands.

An efficient and greener protocol for the synthesis of poly functionalized pyridines using tetra-n-butyl ammonium fluoride （TBAF） in water is established. Remarkable advantages of the present synthetic strategy over the others are shorter reaction times, higher isolated yields, reuse of catalytic system, simple work-up procedure and more especially its applicability to heteryl and aliphatic aldehydes.

We present 19 cases of zebra pattern structure (ZPS) and fiber bursts (FB) in radio bursts in frequency range around 3 GHz, and one such case in the range 5.2-7.6 GHz, using the new microwave spectrometer of NAoC between 2.6-3.8 and 5.2-7.6 GHz (China, Huairou station) with high resolution (10 MHz and 8 ms). The FB and ZPS have about the same spectral parameters: the frequency bandwidth of emission stripes △f-20MHz, the frequency separation between the emission and the neighboring low frequency absorption -△fea-30MHz and the frequency separation between emission stripes (when a periodic structure persists) △fs -60-70 MHz. Therefore we consider both these fine structures to be whistler manifestations, i.e., interactions of plasma electrostatic waves with whistler waves (generated by the same fast particles with loss-cone anisotropy) l + w → t. The duration of the fiber bursts of about 2 s corresponds to whistler waves propagating undamped at about 2s, which requires a whistler increment on between the ratios of plasma to cyclotron frequencies and whistler to cyclotron frequencies is almost independent of the decrement of whistler electron damping. This finding is used to obtain the magnetic field strength in the region of generation. For a reasonable value of electron temperature (2-20 MK), we find B = 125-190 G when the electron density is (8-18) × 1010 cm-3 and B = 520 - 610 G when the electron density is (35-60) × 1010 cm-3. In two remarkable events, 1998-04-15 and 2000-10-29, the right-hand polarization is strong for all the fine structures and corresponds to ordinary wave.
