MicroRNAs as potential diagnostic biomarkers for bipolar disorder

Abnormal expression of microRNAs is connected to brain development and disease and could provide novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of bipolar disorder. We performed a PubMed search for microRNA biomarkers in bipolar disorder and found 18 original research articles on studies performed with human patients and published from January 2011 to June 2023. These studies included microRNA profiling in bloodand brain-based materials. From the studies that had validated the preliminary findings,potential candidate biomarkers for bipolar disorder in adults could be miR-140-3p,-30d-5p,-330-5p,-378a-5p,-21-3p,-330-3p,-345-5p in whole blood, miR-19b-3p,-1180-3p,-125a-5p, let-7e-5p in blood plasma, and miR-7-5p,-23b-5p,-142-3p,-221-5p,-370-3p in the blood serum. Two of the studies had investigated the changes in microRNA expression of patients with bipolar disorder receiving treatment. One showed a significant increase in plasma miR-134 compared to baseline after 4 weeks of treatment which included typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines. The other study had assessed the effects of prescribed medications which included neurotransmitter receptorsite binders(drug class B) and sedatives, hypnotics, anticonvulsants, and analgesics(drug class c) on microRNA results. The combined effects of the two drug classes increased the significance of the results for miR-219 and-29c with miR-30e-3p and-526b* acquiring significance. MicroRNAs were tested to see if they could serve as biomarkers of bipolar disorder at different clinical states of mania, depression, and euthymia. One study showed that upregulation in whole blood of miR-9-5p,-29a-3p,-106a-5p,-106b-5p,-107,-125a-3p,-125b-5p and of miR-107,-125a-3p occurred in manic and euthymic patients compared to controls, respectively, and that upregulation of miR-106a-5p,-107 was found for manic compared to euthymic patients. Post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental disorder caused by exposure to severe traumatic life ***,there are no validated biomarkers or laboratory tests that can distinguish between trauma survivors with and without post-traumatic stress *** addition,the heterogeneity of clinical presentations of post-traumatic stress disorder and the overlap of symptoms with other conditions can lead to misdiagnosis and inappropriate *** suggests that this condition is a multisystem disorder that affects many biological systems,raising the possibility that peripheral markers of disease may be used to diagnose post-traumatic stress *** performed a PubMed search for microRNAs(miRNAs)in post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)that could serve as diagnostic biomarkers and found 18 original research articles on studies performed with human patients and published January 2012 to December *** included four studies with whole blood,seven with peripheral blood mononuclear cells,four with plasma extracellular vesicles/exosomes,and one with serum *** of these studies had also used whole *** studies were excluded as they did not involve microRNA *** of the studies had collected samples from adult male veterans who had returned from deployment and been exposed to combat,and only two were from recently traumatized adult *** measuring miRNA expression levels,many of the studies had used microarray miRNA analysis,miRNA Seq analysis,or NanoString *** six studies had used real time polymerase chain reaction assay to determine/validate miRNA expression in PTSD subjects compared to *** miRNAs that were found/validated in these studies may be considered as potential candidate biomarkers for PTSD and include miR-3130-5p in whole blood;miR-193a-5p,-7113-5p,-125a,-181c,and-671-5p in peripheral blood mononuclear cells;miR-10b-5p,-203a-3p,-4488,-502-3p,-874-3p,-5100,and-7641 in plasma extracellular vesicles/

Al-xv alloys(x=2 at.%,5 at.%,10 at.%)with nanocrystalline structure and high solid solubility of v were produced in powder form by high-energy ball milling(HEBM).The alloy powders were consolidated by spark plasma sintering(SPS)employing a wide range of temperatures ranging from 200 to 400°*** microstructure and solid solubility of v in Al were investigated using X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning electron microscope and transmission electron *** microstructure was influenced by the SPS temperature and v content of the *** alloys exhibited high solid solubility of v–six orders of magnitude higher than that in equilibrium state and grain sizev intermetallic was detected at 400℃.Formation of a v-lean phase and bimodal grain size was observed during SPS,which increased with the increase in SPS *** hardness and elastic modulus,measured using nanoindentation,were significantly higher than commercial *** example,Al-v alloy produced by SPS at 200℃ exhibited a hardness of 5.21 GPa along with elastic modulus of 96.21 *** evolution of the microstructure and hardness with SPS temperatures has been discussed.

Bio-inspired helicoidal composite laminates, inspired by the intricate helical structures found in nature, present a promising frontier for enhancing the mechanical properties of structural designs. Hence, this study provides a comprehensive investigation into the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear bending behavior of bio-inspired composite plates. The inverse hyperbolic shear deformation theory(IHSDT) of plates is employed to characterize the displacement field, with the incorporation of Green-Lagrange nonlinearity. The problem is modeled using the c0finite element method(FEM), and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB environment to solve it numerically. various helicoidal layup configurations including helicoidal recursive(HR), helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal semi-circular(HS), linear helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with different layup sequences and quasi-isotropic configurations are studied. The model is validated, and parametric studies are conducted. These studies investigate the effects of layup configurations, side-to-thickness ratio, modulus ratios, boundary conditions, and loading conditions at different load amplitudes on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear bending behaviors of bio-inspired composite plates. The results show that the laminate sequence exerts a substantial impact on both nonlinear natural frequencies and nonlinear bending behaviors. Moreover, this influence varies across different side-to-thickness ratios and boundary conditions of the bio-inspired composite plate.

Background Polyglactin(PG)and polydioxanone(PDS)sutures are extensively used based on the surgeon's *** development of post-reconstruction urethrocutaneous fistula(UcF)is variably attributed to the choice of suture material for *** meta-an alysiscompares complications of hypospadia srepair using PGand PDS *** The systematic review and meta-analysis were performed as per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses *** authors conducted thorough searches in databases including MEDLINE,EMBASE,cENTRAL,Scopus,Google Scholar,and clinical trial *** measures included UcF,meatal stenosis,wound infection,urethral stricture,glans dehiscence,and overall *** analysis was used with fixed or random-effect models to find the pooled risk ratio and I2 *** The criteria for inclusion were met by five comparative studies with the inclusion of 1244 children *** analysis failed to show a statistically significant difference in the incidence of meatal stenosis,urethral stricture,wound infection,and total complications using PG and PDS ***,it showed a reduction in the incidence of UcF with PDS suture hypospadias repairs(risk ratio=0.66,95%cl 0.48 to 0.92).conclusions PDS sutures are associated with decreased incidence of UcF than PG after hypospadias *** incidence of meatal stenosis,urethral stricture,wound infection,and total complications was not affected by the type of suture material used for *** implications This meta-analysis suggests decreased incidence of UcF when PDS sutures are used for hypospadias repair which may impact the choice of suturematerialforrepair.

copper and cobalt oxides supported on ceO2 were investigated for preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide(cO-PROX)in the presence of excess hydrogen and cO2.(cuo)1-x(co3 O4)x/3-(ceO2)2.5(x=0,0.25,0.50,0.75,0.85 and 1)catalysts were prepared by coprecipitation *** mixed oxide catalysts were characterized by several physicochemical techniques,such as BET surface area(SBET),X-ray diffraction(XRD),high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),temperature programmed reduction(TPR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).XRD studies show the peaks related to cuO and co3 O4 phases in copper and cobalt containing ceO2 *** average particle size of the ceO2 crystallites is in the range of 8-10 nm as evaluated from HRTEM *** studies demonstrate that cu,co and ce in(cuO)1-x(co3O4)x/3-(ceO2)2.5 catalysts are presented in+2 and+1,+3 and+2 and+4 and+3 oxidation states,*** catalyst with x=0.75 shows better activity and selectivity towards *** the catalyst with only copper(cuO-ceO2,x=0)shows good activity but reverse water gas shift(RWGS)reaction is noticed at high *** the other hand,RWGS reaction is suppressed on the cobalt containing cuO-ceO2 *** on ceO2 with x=1 shows hardly any activity for PRoX reaction at low *** methanation activity is observed on cuO-ceO2 or co3O4-ceO2 *** contrast,combination of copper and cobalt on ceO2 shows methanation of cO where enhanced activity is observed with increasing in cobalt content.

A model system,which is based on iron(Fe)doped gallium oxide(Ga_(2)O_(3))(Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3)),has been considered to elucidate the combined effect of transition-metal ion doping and processing temperature on the chemistry,local structure and chemical bonding,and electrical transport properties of a wide band gap oxide(Ga_(2)O_(3)).The Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds were synthesized using standard high-temperature solid state reaction *** effect of processing conditions in terms of different calcination and sintering environments on the structural and electrical properties of Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds is studied in *** characterization by Raman spectroscopy revealed that Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds exhibit monoclinic crystal symmetry,which is quite similar to the intrinsic parental crystal structure,though Fedoping induces lattice *** temperature(T_(sint))which was varied in the range of 900-1200℃,has significant impact on the structure,chemical bonding,and electrical properties of Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) *** spectroscopic measurements indicate the proper densification of the Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds achieved through complete Fe diffusion into the parent Ga_(2)O_(3) lattice which is evident at the highest sintering *** X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy validates the chemical states of the constituent elements in Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) *** electrical properties of Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) fully controlled by T_(sint),which governed the grain size and microstructural *** temperature and frequency dependent electrical measurements demonstrated the salient features of the Fe doped Ga_(2)O_(3) *** activation energy determined from Arrhenius equation is 0.5 e *** results demonstrate that control over structure,morphology,chemistry and electrical properties of the Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds can be achieved by optimizing T_(sint).

The size effects of the critical behaviors for the systems of interacting spins are discussed extensively *** this paper,the finite-size dependence of the critical temperature and susceptibility of the ferroelectric thinfilm are investigated numerically based on the four-state Potts model with the nearest-neighbor interactions between thedipole *** four orientations of the domains exist in the ferroelectric film and the movement of the domainwalls determines the polarization switching process besides the boundary conditions of the *** critical exponentsare obtained and our investigations show that the boundary conditions play the important roles for the ferroelectricproperties of the thin films and the critical behavior of the thin films strongly depends on the feature of the surface.
