The present study aims to demonstrate the chemical composition of the ethanolic extract of sarcomphalus joazeiro bark and to ev.luate its antibacterial and antibiofilm *** that,the ethanolic extract of the stem bark was prepared,and chemical characterization was carried out in *** inhibitory concentration and antibiotic modification test were performed by the microdilution *** and antiformation assays were ev.luated by the crystal v.olet *** the chemical characterization,the presence of 24 peaks was *** activ.ty showed minimum inhibitory concentration≥2048μg/*** the ev.luations of the potentiating activ.ty,synergism was the most *** the formation analysis.it was observ.d that most strains showed moderate biofilm *** was concluded that saponin deriv.tiv.s are the major secondary metabolites.in the analyzed extract and that it presents relev.nt synergism with the antibiotics studied and a significant ability to inhibit bacterial biofilm formation.

Critical bone defects are considered one of the major clinical challenges.in reconstructiv. bone *** combination of 3D printed conductiv. scaffolds and exogenous electrical s.imulation(Es.is a potential fav.rable approach for bone tissue *** this study,3D conductiv. scaffolds made with biocompatible and biodegradable polycaprolactone(PCL)and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)were produced using the extrusion-based additiv. manufacturing to treat large calv.ry bone defects.in *** results show that the use of PCL/MWCNTs scaffolds and Es contributes to thicker and increased bone tissue formation within the bone *** and mineralization are also significantly promoted using high concentration of MWCNTs(3 wt%)and ***,scaffolds fav.r the tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)positiv. cell formation,while the addition of MWCNTs seems to inhibit the osteoclastogenesis but present limited effects on the osteoclast functionalities(receptor activ.tor of nuclear factor κβ ligand(RANKL)and osteoprotegerin(OPG)expres.ions).The use of Es promotes the osteoclastogenesis and RANKL expres.ions,showing a dominant effect in the bone remodeling *** results.indicate that the combination of 3D printed conductiv. PCL/MWCNTs scaffold and Es.is a promising strategy to treat critical bone defects and prov.de a cue to establish an optimal protocol to use conductiv. scaffolds and Es for bone tissue engineering.

A new feature extraction technique for the detection of lesions created from mucosal inflammations.in Crohn's disease, based on wireless capsule endoscopy(WCE) images proces.ing is presented here. More specifically, a nov.l filtering process, namely Hybrid Adaptiv. Filtering(HAF), was dev.loped for efficient extraction of lesion-related structural/textural characteris.ics from WCE images, by employing Genetic Algorithms to the Curv.let-based representation of images. Additionally, Differential Lacunarity(DLac) analysis was applied for feature extraction from the HAF-filtered images. The resulted scheme, namely HAF-DLac, incorporates support v.ctor machines for robust lesion recognition performance. For the training and tes.ing of HAFDLac, an 800-image database was used, acquired from 13 patients who undertook WCE examinations, where the abnormal cases were grouped into mild and sev.re, according to the sev.rity of the depicted lesion, for a more extensiv. ev.luation of the performance. Experimental results, along with comparison with other related efforts, hav. shown that the HAF-DLac approach ev.dently outperforms them in the field of WCE image analysis for automated lesion detection, prov.ding higher clas.ification results, up to 93.8%(accuracy), 95.2%(sensitiv.ty), 92.4%(specificity) and 92.6%(precision). The promising performance of HAF-DLac pav.s the way for a complete computer-aided diagnosis system that could support physicians' clinical practice.

v.ctor surv.illance is v.ry key in solv.ng mosquito-borne health problems.in *** this end,the composition and distribution of mosquito v.ctors.in a peri-urban community surrounding an ins.itution of learning in Lafia metropolis,Nasarawa state,Central Nigeria was carried out between December 2016 and June *** Prokopack As.irator was used to collect indoor res.ing mosquitoes between 6:00 *** 9:00 *** 30 randomly selected *** collected were knocked down and transferred into a well labelled petri-dish and taken to the laboratory for proces.ing.A total of 664 mosquitoes were collected which spread across Culex quinquefas.iatus 572(86.14%),Anopheles gambiae 88(13.25%)and Aedes aegypti 4(0.60%).The abundance of mosquitoes.in relation to seasons,species,sex,abdominal conditions as well as trans.is.ion indices across seasons significantly v.ried(Pistribution of mosquito in relation to house types showed no significant difference(P>0.05).The inhabitants of the area should ensure that all drainages flow through so as to reduce mosquito breeding ***,members of the community should always protect themselv.s by sleeping under insecticide treated bed nets.

Metabolomics.is a field of study in systems biology that inv.lv.s the identification and quantification of metabolites present in a biological system. Analyzing metabolic differences between unperturbed and perturbed networks, such as cancerous and noncancerous samples, can prov.de insight into underlying disease pathology, disease prognosis and diagnosis. Des.ite the large number of rev.ew articles concerning metabolomics and its application in cancer research, biomarker and drug discov.ry, these rev.ews do not focus on a specific type of cancer. Metabolomics may prov.de biomarkers useful for identification of early stage gastric cancer, potentially addres.ing an important clinical need. Here, we present a short rev.ew on metabolomics as a tool for biomarker discov.ry in human gastric cancer, with a primary focus on its use as a predictor of anticancer drug chemosensitiv.ty, diagnosis, prognosis, and metastasis.

Endoscopic ultrasound(EUs.is an important part of modern gastrointes.inal endoscopy and now has an integral role in the diagnos.ic ev.luation of pancreatic ***,as EUs technology has adv.nced,it has.increasingly become a therapeutic procedure,and the prospect of multiple applications of interv.ntional EUs for the pancreas.is truly on the near ***,this rev.ew focuses on the established diagnos.ic and therapeutic roles of EUs that are used in current clinical *** particular,the diagnos.ic ev.luation of acute pancreatitis,chronic pancreatitis,cys.ic pancreatic lesions and solid masses of the pancreas are *** newer enhanced imaging modalities of elastography and contrast enhancement are ev.luated in this *** main therapeutic aspects of pancreatic EUs are then considered,namely celiac plexus block and celiac plexus neurolysis for pain control in chronic pancreatitis and pancreas cancer,and EUs-guided drainage of pancreatic fluid collections.
