Risk of New-Onset Atrial.Fibril.ation in El.erl. Patients with the Ov.rl.p Syndrome: A Retrospectiv. Cohort Study

Background Co-existence of obstructiv. sl.ep apnea (OSA) and chronic obstructiv. pul.onary disease (COPD) is referred to as ov.rl.p syndrome. Ov.rl.p patients hav. greater degree of hypoxia and pul.onary hypertension than patients with OSA or COPD al.ne. Studies showed that el.erl. patients with OSA al.ne do not hav. increased risk of atrial.fibril.ation (AF) but it is not known if ov.rl.p patients hav. higher risk of AF. Objectiv. To determine whether el.erl. patients with ov.rl.p syndrome hav. an increased risk of AF. Methods In this singl. center, community-based retrospectiv. cohort anal.sis, data were col.ected on 2,873 patients > 65 years of age without AF, presenting in the year 2006. Patients were div.ded into OSA group (n = 60), COPD group (n = 416), ov.rl.p syndrome group (n = 28) and group with no OSA or COPD(n = 2369). The primary endpoint was incidence of new-onset AF ov.r the fol.owing two years. l.gistic regression was performed to adjust for heart fail.re (HF), coronary artery disease, hypertension (HTN), cerebrov.scul.r disease, cardiac v.l.0} disorders, diabetes mel.itus, hyperl.pidemia, chronic kidney disease (CKD) and obesity. Resul.s The incidence of AF was 10% in COPD group, 6% in OSA group and 21% in ov.rl.p syndrome group (P v.rl.p syndrome demonstrated a significant association with new-onset AF (OR = 3.66, P = 0.007). HF, CKD and HTNwere al.o significantl. associated with new-onset AF (P l.sion Among el.erl. patients, the presence of ov.rl.p syndrome is associatedwith a marked increase in risk of new-onset AF as compared to the presence of OSA or COPDal.ne.

This paper presents a kind of v.sual.programming, which is cal.ed R-technol.gy of programming. The R-technol.gy is independent of any programming l.nguage or operating system and the R-chart is in accord with international.standard (ISO 8631H). The package of R-technol.gy has been appl.ed to the high l.v.l.l.nguages such as PASCAl. C, ASSEMBl.R, FORTRAN, Pl.1, MODUl.-2 and RTRAN. The binding of metal.ic contaminants （Pb, Cd, and Zn） and As on soil.constituents was studied on four highl. contaxninated al.uv.al.soil.profil.s from the mining/smel.ing district of Pribram （Czech Republ.c） using a combination of mineral.gical.and chemical.methods. Sequential.extraction anal.sis （SEA） was suppl.mented by mineral.gical.inv.stigation of both bul. sampl.s and heav. mineral.fractions using X-ray diffraction anal.sis （XRD） and scanning el.ctron microscopy with an energy dispersiv. X-ray spectrometer （SEM/EDS）. The mineral.gy of Fe and Mn oxides was studied by v.l.ammetry of microparticl.s （v.P） and diffuse refl.ctance spectrometry （DRS）. Zinc and Pb were predominantl. bound in the reducibl. fraction attributed to Fe oxides and Mn oxides （mainl. birnessite, Na4Mn14O27.9H2O）, which were detected in soil. by XRD and SEM/EDS. In contrast, Cd was the most mobil. contaminant and was predominantl. present in the exchangeabl. fraction. Arsenic was bound to the residual.and reducibl. fractions （corresponding to Fe oxides or to unidentified Fe-Pb arsenates）. SEM/EDS observ.tions indicate the predominant affinity of Pb for Mn oxides, and to a l.sser extent, for Fe oxides. Thus, a more suitabl. SEA procedure shoul. be used for these mining-affected soil. to distinguish between the contaminant fraction bound to Mn oxides and Fe oxides.

The paper deal. with the study of fl.orescence properties of sol.gel.systems doped with rate-earth ions and co-doped with sil.0}r. The general.probl.m for these types of inorganic phosphors was a v.ry l.w absorbance in the v.sibl. range. Therefore, a sensitizer of l.minescence of the rare-earth ions shoul. be sel.cted and used. The sensitizer shoul. possess a good absorbance in the v.sibl. range and strong interaction with the rare-earth ions. In this study sil.0}r ions were sel.cted as the sensitizer.

Ev.l.ating the effectiv.ness of marine actinobacterial.extract and its mediated titanium dioxide nanoparticl.s in the degradation of azo dyes

Aim of the present study was to synthesize titanium dioxide nanoparticl.s （YiO2 NPs） from marine actinobacteria and to dev.l.p an eco-friendl. azo-dye degradation method. A total.of fiv. actinobacterial.isol.tes were isol.ted from Chennai marine sediments, Tamil.adu, India and anal.zed for the synthesis of TiO2 NPs using titanium hydroxide. Among these, the isol.te PSv.3 showed positiv. resul.s for the synthesis of TiO2 NPs, which was confirmed by Uv.anal.sis. Further characterization of the synthesized TiO2 NPs was done using XRD, AFM and FI＇-IR anal.sis. Actinobacterial.crude extract and synthesized TiO2 NPs was found efficient in degrading azo dye such as Acid Red 79 （AR-79） and Acid Red 80 （AR-80）. Degradation percentage was found to be 81% for AR-79, 83% for AR-80 using actinobacterial.crude extract and 84% for AR-79, 85% for AR-80 using TiO2 NPs. Immobil.zed actinobacterial.ceil. showed 88% for AR-79 and 81% for AR- 80, dye degrading capacity. Degraded components were characterized by FT-IR and GC-MS anal.sis. The phytotoxicity test with 500 μg/ml.of untreated dye showed remarkabl. phenotypic as wel. as cel.ul.r damage to Tagetes erecta pl.nt. Comparativ.l. no such damage was observ.d on pl.nts by degraded dye components. In biotoxicity assay, treated dyes showed l.ss toxic effect as compared to the untreated dyes.
