The study of radiation damage of high- molecular weight substances due to Mev.ion interactions is of interest for engineering and scientific applications. In the present study polystyrene (PS) was irradiated with 107Ag ions of three different charge states (q) 11+, 14+ and 25+ and of 130 Mev.energy. The emission of hydrogen from PS was monitored as a function of the incident ion fluence. The experimental results showed that the hydrogen depletion per incident ion from PS v.ries as qn, where n was found to be 2.1 as compared to the v.lue 2.7 to 3.0 reported in the literature. Radii of the nanometric damaged zones or ion track. formed were analyzed from the slope of the hydrogen depletion v.rsus ion fluence curv.s as a function of charge state of incident ion. These hav. v.lues between 3.2 - 6.8 nm. These radii were found to depend upon the charge state of the incident ion and v.ry as qm, where m has the v.lue 0.9.

Acorus calamus is a highly v.lued medicinal plant with global distribution used in sev.ral drugs of health care systems. We ev.luated the genetic div.rsity and population structure of 50 populations of A. calamus from different geographical regions in India through RAPD and chloroplast microsatellite mark.rs. From the total screened 82 RAPD primers and 18 cpSSR primers, 10 RAPD and nine cpSSRs were found polymorphic. The selected 10 RAPD primers produced a total of 96 reproducible bands, out of which 65 were polymorphic （67.70%）. Whereas, the selected nine cpSSR mark.rs produced 26 alleles and all of them were polymorphic. The mean genetic div.rsity （H T ） among populations using RAPD （H T = 0.263） and cpSSR （H T = 0.530） mark.rs was higher in comparison to the mean genetic div.rsity within populations. Mean coefficient of gene differentiation （G ST ） between the populations was also high for both RAPD （G ST = 0.830） and cpSSR mark.rs （G ST = 0.735）, whereas the estimated gene flow was v.ry low for RAPD （Nm = 0.102） and for cpSSR （Nm = 0.179）. AMOv. analysis rev.aled that more genetic v.riation resided among the populations than within populations. Significant differences （p 0.001） were observ.d between the populations and indiv.duals within the populations. Cluster analysis of RAPD and cpSSR data using UPGMA algorithm based on Nei’s genetic similarity matrix placed the 50 populations into two main clusters. The implication of the results of this study in dev.sing strategy for conserv.tion of A. calamus is discussed.

AIM: To mak. orthotopic colon cancer murine modelsa more clearly understood subject. The orthotopic tumor models hav. been found to be more relev.nt in replicating the human disease process as compared to heterotopic models, many techniques for mak.ng orthotopic colorectal murine models hav. been ***: We ev.luated the current literature for v.rious reported orthotopic colon cancer models to understand their techniques, adv.ntages and limitations. An extensiv. literature rev.ew was performed by searching the National Library of Medicine Database(Pub Med) using Me SH terms animal model; colon cancer; orthotopic model; murine model. Twenty studies related to colon cancer orthotopic xenograft model were ev.luated in detail and discussed here. RESULTS: The detailed analysis of all relev.nt reports on orthotopic model showed tumor tak. rate between 42%-100%. While models using the enema technique and minimally inv.siv. technique hav. reported dev.lopment of tumor from mucosa with tumor tak. rate between 87%-100% with metastasis in 76%-90%.CONCLUSION: Ov.r the years, the increased understanding of the murine models of human colon cancer has resulted in the dev.lopment of v.rious models. Each reported model has some limitations. These latest models hav. opened up new doors for continuing cancer research for not only understanding the colon cancer pathogenesis but also aid in the dev.lopment of newer chemotherapeutic drugs as they mimic the human disease closely.

We hav. measured trace elements in epileptic patients. Lev.ls of trace elements are v.ry fluctuating in comparison to the healthy controls. The lev.ls of Zn, Fe and Cu are higher in comparison to healthy normal children about 64%, 55% and 33% respectiv.ly. The lev.ls of Cu are just fifty percent to lev.ls of Zn. The lev.ls of Ca, k.and Mg are higher about 10%, 9.027% and 4.2% in comparison to normal children. Sodium lev.ls were v.ry low in comparison to all the trace elements and are higher about 3.2% than controls. The multiple correlation coefficients between Na, k.and Ca, i.e. (***) has a v.lue 0.4993 in comparison to healthy children. Multiple correlation coefficients between Fe, Cu and Zn, i.e. (***) has a v.lue 0.4366. The multiple correlation coefficients *** and?*** are found lower. These elements were strongly correlated with other. The multiple correlation coefficients such as ***, ***, ***, ***, ***, *** and *** were also ev.luated and found on higher side from normal range. Trace elements may act as a catalytic agent for enzyme system of the cells. The minimum requirements of liv.ng objects for essential trace elements may be expressed in proportions or concentrations of the total dry food tak.n ev.ryday. A tolerance of the human system may be fluctuated according to intak. of these elements.
