Abstract The mechanism underlying the antibacterial activ.ty of probiotic strains inhibiting the growth of other microorganisms appears to be multifactorial and includes lowering of the pH,the production of organic acids and secretion of antibacterial *** modified agar ov.0}ay method in our study was used for the determination of the presence of antibacterial activ.ty among the 12 strains of probiotics against common microbial pathogens in different regions of epithelial cells including Streptococcus pneumoniae,Escherichia coli HB101,Candida albicans and Gardnerella *** showed that Lactobacillus saliv.rius AP-32,*** CT-53,*** LPL28,*** ET-22,*** F-1,Bifidobacterium brev. bv.77,*** RE-88 had high ability to inhibit *** growth with a inhibition zone abov. 3 *** the 12 strains,LPL28,ET-22,bv.77 and RE-88 possessed the higher inhibition with inhibition zones abov. 3.7 ***-32,CT-53,LPL28,ET-22,F-1,Enterococcus faecalis YM-73,bv.77 and RE-88 had high ability to inhibit *** HB101 growth and ET-22,bv.77,RE-88 possessed the higher inhibition with inhibition zones abov.4 ***-32,ET-22,LPL28 and F-1 high inhibited the growth of *** the 12 strains,LPL28 and F-1 possessed the higher inhibition with inhibition zones abov. 4 ***-32,*** CS-773,CT-53,LPL28,ET-22,F-1,*** CP-9,bv.77 and RE-88 showed high ability to inhibit *** *** the 12 strains,CT-53,CP-9 and bv.77 possessed the higher inhibition with inhibition zones abov. 3.6 *** the whole,the results indicated that AP-32,ET-22,LPL28 and F-1 had high capacity of inhibiting the growth of 4 different pathogens in v.tro and perhaps were more capable to promote the mucosal barrier *** v.rified antibacterial activ.ty of probiotics maybe could decrease the incidence of pathogen infection and supported the dev.lopment of functional foods as a key to the improv.ment of health in the consuming public.

Gradient-induced long-range optical pulling force based on photonic band gap

Optical pulling prov.des a new degree of freedom in optical *** is generally believ.d that long-range optical pulling forces cannot be generated by the gradient of the incident ***,we theoretically propose and numerically demonstrate the realization of a long-range optical pulling force stemming from a self-induced gradient field in the manipulated *** analogy to potential barriers in quantum tunnelling,we use a photonic band gap design in order to obtain the intensity gradients inside a manipulated object placed in a photonic crystal wav.guide,thereby achiev.ng a pulling *** the usual scattering-type optical pulling forces,the proposed gradient-field approach does not require precise elimination of the reflection from the manipulated *** particular,the Einstein-Laub formalism is applied to design this unconv.ntional gradient *** magnitude of the force can be enhanced by a factor of up to 50 at the optical resonance of the manipulated object in the wav.guide,making it insensitiv. to *** dev.loped approach helps to break the limitation of scattering forces to obtain longrange optical pulling for manipulation and sorting of nanoparticles and other *** dev.loped principle of using the band gap to obtain a pulling force may also be applied to other types of wav.s,such as acoustic or water wav.s,which are important for numerous applications.

This paper celebrates Professor Yongqi GAO's significant achiev.ment in the field of interdisciplinary studies within the context of his final research project Arctic Climate Predictions: Pathways to Resilient Sustainable Societies-ARCPATH(https://***/en/projects/finished-projects/arcpath). The disciplines represented in the project are related to climatology, anthropology, marine biology, economics, and the broad spectrum of social-ecological studies. Team members were drawn from the Nordic countries, Russia, China, the United States, and Canada. The project was transdisciplinary as well as interdisciplinary as it included collaboration with local knowledge holders. ARCPATH made significant contributions to Arctic research through an improv.d understanding of the mechanisms that driv. climate v.riability in the Arctic. In tandem with this research, a combination of historical inv.stigations and social, economic, and marine biological fieldwork was carried out for the project study areas of Iceland, Greenland, Norway, and the surrounding seas, with a focus on the joint use of ocean and sea-ice data as well as social-ecological driv.rs. ARCPATH was able to prov.de an improv.d framework for predicting the near-term v.riation of Arctic climate on spatial scales relev.nt to society, as well as ev.luating possible related changes in socioeconomic realms. In summary, through the integration of information from sev.ral different disciplines and research approaches, ARCPATH serv.d to create new and v.luable knowledge on crucial issues, thus prov.ding new pathways to action for Arctic communities.

Effect of Surfactants on the Thermoelectric Performance of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Thermoelectrics are a promising solution to the recov.ry of some of the 60%of the worldwide energy wasted as ***,their conv.rsion efficiency is low and the best performing materials are brittle,toxic,and made of expensiv. *** challenge in dev.loping better performing materials is in disrupting the electrical v. thermal conductiv.ty correlation,to achiev. low thermal conductiv.ty simultaneously with a high electrical *** nanotubes allow for the decoupling of the electronic density of states from the phonon density of states and this paper shows that flexible,thin films of double-walled carbon nanotube(DWCNT)can form effectiv. n-and p-doped semiconductors that can achiev. a combined Seebeck coefficient of 157.6µv.K^(−1),the highest reported for a single DWCNT dev.ce to *** is achiev.d through selected surfactant doping,whose role is correlated with the length of the hydrocarbon chain of the hydrophobic tail group of the surfactant’s *** functionalized with Triton X-405 show the highest output power consisting of a single junction of p-and n-type thermoelectric elements,reaching as high as 67 nW for a 45 K temperature *** enabling flexible,cheaper,and more efficient thermoelectric generators through the use of functionalized CNTs.

The heat transfer through a concav. permeable fin is analyzed by the local thermal non-equilibrium(LTNE) model. The gov.rning dimensional temperature equations for the solid and fluid phases of the porous extended surface are modeled, and then are nondimensionalized by suitable dimensionless terms. Further, the obtained nondimensional equations are solv.d by the clique polynomial method(CPM). The effects of sev.ral dimensionless parameters on the fin's thermal profiles are shown by graphical illustrations. Additionally, the current study implements deep neural structures to solv. physics-gov.rned coupled equations, and the best-suited hyperparameters are attained by comparison with v.rious network combinations. The results of the CPM and physicsinformed neural network(PINN) exhibit good agreement, signifying that both methods effectiv.ly solv. the thermal modeling problem.

Dear Editor,Since the late 1980s, trauma in China has been identified as a major public health challenge, with trafic-related fatalities accounting for 80% of accidental deaths[1]. In 2019, Shenzhen had a total population of approximately 20 million, and from 2010 to 2017, both emergency medical serv.ces and the total number of trauma patients increased, with trauma accounting for 47.0% and 38.4% of all patients in 2010 and 2017, respectiv.ly[2,3]. This report describes the efforts to implement programs and establish a trauma system in Shenzhen, China.

Suppression of Self-Discharge in Aqueous Supercapacitor Dev.ces Incorporating Highly Polar Nanofiber Separators

One of the major problems limiting the applications of electric double-layer(EDLC)supercapacitor dev.ces is their inability to maintain their cell v.ltage ov.r a significant ***-discharge is a spontaneous decay in charged energy,often resulting in fully depleted dev.ces in a matter of ***,a new method for suppressing this self-discharge phenomenon is proposed by using directionally polarized piezoelectric electrospun nanofiber films as separator *** engineering of polyv.nylidene fluoride(Pv.F)nanofiber films containing a small concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)results in a high proportion of polarβphases,reaching 380.5%of the total *** polarity into the separator material prov.des a rev.rse-diode mechanism in the dev.ce,such that it drops from an initial v.ltage of 1.6 down to 1 v.after 10 h,as opposed to 0.3 v.with a nonpolarized,commercial separator ***,the energy retained for the polarized separator is 37%and 4%for the nonpolarized separator,making supercapacitors a more attractiv. solution for long-term energy storage.

Background: Duodenoscope-related multidrug-resistant organism(MDRO) infections raise concerns. Disposable duodenoscopes hav. been recently introduced in the market and approv.d by regulatory agencies with the aim to reduce the risk of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) associated infections. The aim of this study was to ev.luate the outcome of procedures performed with single-use duodenoscopes in patients with clinical indications to single-operator cholangiopancreatoscopy. Methods: This is a multicenter international, retrospectiv. study combining all patients who underwent complex biliopancreatic interv.ntions using the combination of a single-use duodenoscope and a single-use cholangioscope. The primary outcome was technical success defined as ERCP completion for the intended clinical indication. Secondary outcomes were procedural duration, rate of cross-ov.r to reusable duodenoscope, operator-reported satisfaction score(1 to 10) on performance rating of the single-use duodenoscope, and adv.rse ev.nt(AE) rate. Results: A total of 66 patients(26, 39.4% female) were included in the study. ERCP was categorized according to ASGE ERCP grading system as 47(71.2%) grade 3 and 19(28.8%) grade 4. The technical success rate was 98.5%(65/66). Procedural duration was 64(interquartile range 15-189) min, cross-ov.r rate to reusable duodenoscope was 1/66(1.5%). The satisfaction score of the single-use duodenoscope classified by the operators was 8.6 ± 1.3 points. Four patients(6.1%) experienced AEs not directly related to the single-use duodenoscope, namely 2 post-ERCP pancreatitis(PEP), 1 cholangitis and 1 ***: Single-use duodenoscope is effectiv., reliable and safe ev.n in technically challenging procedures with a non-inferiority to reusable duodenoscope, making these dev.ces a v.able alternativ. to standard reusable equipment.
