Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1 or von Recklinghausen disease) is an autosomal dominant genetic disease, characterized by an extreme variability of its clinical expression which is also found in the same family. Our work focuses on the exploitation of four cases of patients with NF-1 who were enrolled in the paediatric neurology consultation at Rabat Children’s Hospital. They are two infants and two children. Otherwise the diagnosis was made in front of the existence of café au lait and lentiginous spots in two boys, also the existence of café au lait spots and abnormalities in brain imaging in two girls. Thus an evolution was marked by a favorable outcome for three patients and neurological sequelae in one patient.

Peanut skins are regarded as a low economic value by-product of the peanut industry;however, they contain high levels of bioactive compounds including catechins and procyanidins, which are known for their health-promoting properties. The in vitro antioxidant activity of peanut skin extracts (PSE) has been reported but the associated anti-inflammatory properties have not been widely examined. This study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of PSE on the pro-inflammatory enzyme, Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein expression, on its downstream product, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and on nitrous oxide (NO) levels. Defatted peanut skins were extracted using two aqueous solvent mixtures (50% acetone and 90% ethanol), in order to compare the effects of the two solvent systems on antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. PSE antioxidant activity was determined by the hydrophilic oxygen radical absorbance capacity (H-ORAC) assay, while total phenolics were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu assay and flavan-3-ols and procyanidins were quantified by HPLC. Acetone extracted PSE (A-PSE) exhibited numerically, but not statistically higher H-ORAC and total phenolic values than the ethanol extracted PSE (E-PSE) (1836 μmol Trolox/100 g and 67.9 mg GAE/g, and 1830 μmol Trolox/100 g and 51.8 GAE/g respectively). A-PSE also had higher levels of flavan-3-ols and procyanidins than E-PSE. RAW 264.7 cells were pretreated with 1.0%, 2.5% and 5.0% (v/v) of A-PSE or E-PSE and induced with the inflammatory marker, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for 12 hours. COX-2 protein expression, measured by Western blotting was significantly (p 2 and NO levels measured by ELISA, were significantly (p vels of A-PSE and E-PSE suggesting that A-PSE and E-PSE not also possess similar antioxidant properties, but also exhibit similar anti-inflammatory effects.

A polycrystalline sample of Ba5GdTi3v7O30 was prepared using a mixed oxide method at high temperature (i.e., at 950℃). The formation of single-phase compound with orthorhombic structure at room temperature was confirmed from preliminary X-ray diffraction study. Detailed studies of dielectric properties of Ba5GdTi3v7O30, investigated in a wide frequency range (102 - 106 Hz) at different temperatures (33℃ - 500℃) showed that these properties of the material are strongly dependent on frequency and temperature. The existence a dielectric anomaly suggests that the compound has a transition temperature at ~385℃. The nature of the variation of conductivity and value of activation energy in different regions, calculated from the temperature dependence of ac conductivity (dielectric data) suggest that the conduction process is of mixed type (i.e., ionic-polaronic and space charge generated from the oxygen ion vacancies). The ac conductivity spectrum obeys Jonscher’s universal power law.

Background: Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is a rare inherited photodermatosis that causes lifelong painful photosensitivity. Neither its full clinical spectrum nor its impact on quality of life (QoL) has been investigated in a large cohort of patients. Objectives: To document the clinical features of EPP and its impact on QoL in a high proportion of all patients with EPP resident in the ***: Patients with EPP were identified fromU.k. clinical databases and assessed by the same clinical investigator over a 7-month period using a standardized proforma and validated adult (Dermatology Life Quality Index, DLQI) and children’s (Children’sDermatology Life Quality Index, CDLQI) QoL questionnaires. Results: Three hundred and eighty-nine living patients with EPP were identified, of whom 223 [114 females, 109 males; median age 34 years (range: 5-87), from 193 families] were investigated. Total erythrocyte porphyrin (TEP) was higher in males (median: 25.3 μmol L-1)-than females (median: 19.3 μmol L-1). The median ages at onset and diagnosis were 1 and 12 years, respectively. Median times for onset of symptoms after sun exposure, onset of signs (oedema, erythema) and resolution of symptoms were 20 min, 6 h and 3 days, respectively. Most patients reported absence of protection by glass (92%), priming (85%), exacerbation by wind (68%), no family history of photosensitivity (56%), no symptoms during winter (56%) and had chronic skin lesions (79%). Symptoms changed little with age but improved during pregnancy in 47%of gravid women. Most patients used protective clothing and a sunscreen; 28%were taking β-carotene and a further 56%had taken it; 29%were not under regular medical care. Two patients (1%) had liver failure and 8%reported gallstone disease. QoL was markedly impaired, with scores similar to those in severe dermatological disease (mean DLQI score 14.0, n = 176; mean CDLQI score 12.8, n = 44), indicating a large effect on patients’lives. 岩浆供给率的小变化可能引起喷发类型突然转变,所以很难监测安山质火山持续低到中等程度的喷发活动。因为无法直接测量岩浆补给,所以必须发展间接测量的健全技术。在此我们证实,厄瓜多尔通古拉瓦火山1999～2006年武尔卡诺式和斯特隆博利式喷发的火山碎屑的晶体结构能提供关于岩浆上升和喷发动力学的定量信息,而这是利用其他监测手段很难获得的。我们说明喷发碎屑的结晶程度受岩浆补给率(MSR)的控制;相比低岩浆补给阶段,高岩浆补给阶段喷发的火山灰结晶程度明显偏低。该关系用低压下(50MPa)有效的脱气和由喷发前有效时间控制的脱气驱动的结晶作用最容易解释。我们的数据还表明,观察到的从低岩浆补给率时的间歇性武尔卡诺式喷发到高岩浆补给率时的相对连续的斯特隆博利式喷发和熔岩喷泉之间的转变,可以用气泡通过(斯特隆博利式)覆盖火山口不同黏度(和结晶度)的岩浆上升或气泡在该岩浆之下(武尔卡诺式)捕获来解释。
