Abrasive resistance of metastable v–Cr–Mn–Ni spheroidal carbide cast irons using the factorial design method

Full factorial design was used to evaluate the two-body abrasive resistance of 3wt%C–4wt%Mn–1.5wt%Ni spheroidal carbide cast irons with varying vanadium（5.0wt%–10.0wt%） and chromium（up to 9.0wt%） contents. The alloys were quenched at 920℃. The regression equation of wear rate as a function of v and Cr contents was proposed. This regression equation shows that the wear rate decreases with increasing v content because of the growth of spheroidal vC carbide amount. Cr influences the overall response in a complex manner both by reducing the wear rate owing to eutectic carbides（M7C3） and by increasing the wear rate though stabilizing austenite to deformation-induced martensite transformation. This transformation is recognized as an important factor in increasing the abrasive response of the alloys. By analyzing the regression equation, the optimal content ranges are found to be 7.5wt%–10.0wt% for v and 2.5wt%–4.5wt% for Cr, which corresponds to the alloys containing 9vol%–15vol% spheroidal vC carbides, 8vol%–16vol% M7C3, and a metastable austenite/martensite matrix. The wear resistance is 1.9–2.3 times that of the traditional 12wt% v–13wt% Mn spheroidal carbide cast iron.

Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Monocrystalline α-v₂O₅ Nanowires

A stable one-dimensional system in an orthorhombic α-v2O5 nanowires monocrystalline structure was obtained by a solvothermal method from a polymorphic v2O5 structure. The starting material was firstly submitted to acid hydrolysis in H2O2 followed by a solvothermal treatment. The outcome of this procedure, a metastable phase of the one-dimensional system v10O24·12H2O/v3O7·H2O, was subsequently reoxidized by controlled heating in an open air system. The final product was an orange crystalline solid mainly formed by monocrystalline nanowires of α-v2O5 having lengths of tens of micrometers and widths of about 75 nm with a preferential [200] growth direction. It was found that the pH value of the initial solution plays an important role in the formation of the crystalline phase in the final products. Characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). This study offers an alternate route for the synthesis of vanadium oxides and related compounds.

TCF7L2 rs7903146 polymorphism is associated with gastric cancer: a case-control study in the venezuelan population

AIM: To explore the association between TCF7L2 rs12255372 and rs7903146 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and gastric cancer risk in venezuelan ***: We performed a case-control study including 122 paraffin-embedded archived intestinal-type gastric cancer samples and 129 biopsies obtained by superior endoscopy from chronic gastritis patients. Gastric cancer samples were classified according the degree of carcinoma differentiation. Genomic DNA was extracted from tissues, and the two SNPs of TCF7L2 gene (rs12255372 and rs7903146) were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism reactions. Multiple regression analysis with adjustments for age and gender were performed and best-fitting models of inheritance were determined. Statistic powers were post-hoc ***: After adjusting for age and sex the TCF7L2 rs7903146 TT genotype was associated with gastric cancer risk under the recessive genetic model (OR = 3.11, 95%CI: 1.22-7.92, P = 0.017). We further investigated the distribution of rs12255372 and rs7903146 genotypes according gastric cancer stratified by degree of differentiation, and we observed that carriers of rs7903146 T allele (CT + TT vs CC) had a significantly increased risk of moderate/well differentiated gastric cancer (dominant model, OR = 2.55, 95%CI: 1.35-4.80, P = 0.004), whereas the rs7903146 TT genotype was associated with poorly differentiated gastric cancer in the recessive model (OR = 3.65, 95%CI: 1.25-10.62, P = 0.018). We did not find association between rs12255372 SNP and the susceptibility of developing gastric ***: TCF7L2 rs7903146 polymorphism is associated with gastric cancer risk in the venezuelan population, and could be related to determine the degree of differentiation of tumor cells.

A solvable model of lateral line of a fish based on a wave equation with additional boundary conditions on a set of isolated points is *** the framework of this model it is shown that the ratio of pressures on lateral lines on different fish flanks,as well as the cross section of sound scattering on both the lines,strongly depends on angles of incidence of incoming sound *** strong angular dependence of the pressure ratio seems to be sufficient for the fish to determine the directions from which the sound is coming.

Reconstruction after pancreatoduodenectomy:Pancreatojejunostomy vs pancreatogastrostomy

Pancreatic surgeons try to find the best technique for reconstruction after pancreatoduodenectomy(PD) in order to decrease postoperative complications,mainly pancreatic fistulas(PF).In this work,we compare the two most frequent techniques of reconstruction after PD,pancreatojejunostomy(PJ) and pancreatogastrostomy(PG),in order to determine which of the two is better.A systematic review of the literature was performed,including major meta-analysis articles,clinical randomized trials,systematic reviews,and retrospective studies.A total of 64 articles were finally *** and PG are usually responsible for most of the postoperative morbidity,mainly due to the onset of PF,being considered a major trigger of life-threatening complications such as intra-abdominal abscess and *** included systematic reviews reported a significant difference only in the incidence of intraabdominal collections favouring ***,delayed gastric emptying and mortality were not *** there was heterogeneity between these studies,all were conducted in specialized centers by highly experienced surgeons,and the surgical care was likely to be similar for all the *** disadvantages of PG include an increased incidence of delayed gastric emptying and of main pancreatic duct obstruction due to overgrowth by the gastric *** function appears to be worse after PG than after PJ,resulting in severe atrophic changes in the remnant *** on the type of PJ or PG used,the PF rate and other complications can also be *** best method to deal with the pancreatic stump after PD remains *** choice of method of pancreatic anastomosis could be based on individual experience and on the surgeon's preference and adherence to basic principles such as good exposure and *** conclusion,up to now none of the techniques can be considered superior or be recommended as standard for reconstruction after PD.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease covers a wide spectrum of liver pathologies which range from simple steatosis to non-alcoholic *** are members of a very large family of plant-derived compounds that can have beneficial effects on human health,and thus their study has become an increasingly important area of human nutrition *** aim of the present review is to compile published data concerning the effects of both isolated polyphenols as well as polyphenol extracts,on hepatocyte and liver fat accumulation under different steatosis-inducing *** results reported clearly show that this group of biomolecules is able to reduce fat accumulation,but further studies are needed to establish the optimal dose and treatment period *** regard to the potential mechanisms of action,there is a good *** anti-lipidogenic effect of polyphenols is mainly due to reduced fatty acid and triacylglycerol synthesis,increased in fatty acid oxidation,and reduced of oxidative stress and *** a general conclusion,it can be stated that polyphenols are biomolecules which produce hepatoprotective *** date,these beneficial effects have been demonstrated in cultured cells and animal ***,studies performed in humans are needed before these molecules can be considered as truly useful tools in the prevention of liver steatosis.
