Morphometric Attributes of Two Native Forage Species According to Water Source Distance in Semiarid Central Grasslands of Argentina

The semiarid grasslands of Argentina’s central region have been modified by domestic livestock grazing,both in their composition and *** increase in the proportion of woody and non-forage species and the decrease in forage species are some of the most evident results of this *** is limited available information about the effect of differential grazing pressures on morphometric attributes of native species,and it also depends on the life histories of the species in this *** objective of this work was to evaluate some morphometric aspects in the grasses Poa ligularis Nees ex Steud and Piptochaetium napostaense(Speg.).Hack according to distance from the water source in communities in the central semiarid region of *** study area included areas of low grassland,golden forests,and secondary forests in grasslands(6 fields with 9 paddocks).Grazing pressure was established based on the distance to the water source,so sampling areas were designated near the water source(grazing pressure is greater)and far from the water source(grazing pressure light)in each of the *** both species,specimens were selected at random,and the following attributes were measured:crown diameter at ground level(cm),burial depth(cm),average tiller weight per plant(***^(−1)),and the density of tillers per unit of crown surface(***^(−2)crown).The morphometric attributes evaluated showed differences according to the distance to the watering hole and in the different *** species presented similar behaviors for the *** were significant differences in the depth of burial and the average weight of tillers per plant,being greater in the areas close to the water *** the distance to the watering hole,there were no significant differences in crown diameter and tiller density,but the highest values were recorded for the former near the watering hole and for the second far from the watering *** pastures with low

Geochemical and mineralogical studies were performed in the La Pesca(LP)and Tesoro Altamira(TA)beach sediments,located in the Tamaulipas state,northern Gulf of *** main aim of this study is to infer the weathering history and provenance and to discriminate the tectonic environment of the beach *** sediments are composed of quartz with small amounts of accessory minerals such as plagioclase,calcite,orthoclase,microcline,and *** beach sediments are classified as fine-grained and very well sorted,however LP has coarse skewed and leptokurtic sediments,whereas TA has fine-skewed and very leptokurtic *** chemical index of weathering(CIW’)indicates intense weathering in the source *** quartz grain microtextures in the LP and TA are classified into mechanical,chemical,and mechanical/chemical *** features such as fractures,pits,percussion mar.s,abrasion fatigue,and v-shaped mar.s favor high-energy littoral,fluvial,subaqueous-mar.ne,and aeolian *** chemical features indicate solution pits and crystalline overgrowth,which suggests a silica saturated mar.ne *** mechanical/chemical features display adhering particles and elongated depressions suggest formation in a sub-aqueous nearshore mar.ne *** and trace elements-based provenance discrimination diagrams indicate a felsic source derived from the Mesa Central(MC),Sierra Madre Oriental(SMOr)and Oaxaquia *** major and trace element concentrations imply a passive mar.in setting for the northern Gulf of Mexico,which is consistent with the general geology.

Induction of Extracellular Lytic Enzymes by <i>Fusarium solani</i>

Fusarium solani is a necrotrophic parasitic fungus that causes wilt in some plants, causing severe economic losses in some areas of the country. The objective of this work was to analyze the induction of extracellular lytic enzymes produced by a strain of F. solani, isolated from a culture of tomato, in villa de Arista, S.L.P. México. Polygalacturonase activity has a greater induction time at 10 days, and the xylanase has two times higher activity at 8 and 13 days of incubation at 28?C. Also, the xylanase activities A and B were very stable at 4?C. After 7 days of incubation, it has an activity of 100% and 96%, respectively, while polygalacturonase retains 61% of its initial activity. Both activities are better induced with glutamate and urea as nitrogen sources respectively, and both exhibit an initial pH optimum of 5.5. Finally, we didn’t find cellulase activity in the analyzing conditions.

Efficient Handling of Lock Hand-off in DSM Multiprocessors with Buffering Coherence Controllers

Synchronization in parallel programs is a major performance bottleneck in multiprocessor systems. Shared data is protected by locks and a lot of time is spent on the competition arising at the lock hand-off. In order to be serialized, requests to the same cache line can either be bounced （NACKed） or buffered in the coherence controller. In this paper, we focus mainly on systems whose coherence controllers buffer requests. In a lock hand-off, a burst of requests to the same line arrive at the coherence controller. During lock hand-off only the requests from the winning processor contribute to progress of the computation, since the winning processor is the only one that will advance the work. This key observation leads us to propose a hardware mechanism we call request bypassing, which allows requests from the winning processor to bypass the requests buffered in the coherence controller keeping the lock line. We present an inexpensive implementation of request bypassing that reduces the time spent on all the execution phases of a critical section （acquiring the lock, accessing shared data, and releasing the lock） and which, as a consequence, speeds up the whole parallel computation. This mechanism requires neither compiler or programmer support nor ISA or coherence protocol changes. By simulating a 32-processor system, we show that using request bypassing does not degrade but rather improves performance in three applications with low synchronization rates, while in those having a large amount of synchronization activity （the remaining four）, we see reductions in execution time and in lock stall time ranging from 14% to 39% and from 52% to 7170, respectively. We compare request bypassing with a previously proposed technique called read combining and with a system that bounces requests, observing a significantly lower execution time with the bypassing scheme. Finally, we analyze the sensitivity of our results to some key hardware and software parameters.

In recent years,the small pelagic fishery on the Pacific northwest coast of Mexico has significantly increased fishing pressure on thread herring Opisthonema *** fishery is regulated using a precautionary approach(acceptable biological catch(ABC)and minimum catch size).However,due to fishing dynamics,fish aggregation habits and increased fishing mortality,periodic biomass assessments are necessary to estimate ABC and assess the resource *** Catch-MSY approach was used to analyze historical series of thread herring catches off the western Baja California Sur(BCS,1981–2018)and the Gulf of California(GC,1972–2018)to estimate exploitable biomass and target reference points in order to obtain catch *** to the results,in GC,the maximum biomass reached in 1972(at the beginning of fishery)and minimum biomass reached in 2015;the estimated exploitable biomass for 2019 was 42.2×10^(4) t;and the maximum sustainable yield(MSY)was 15.4×10^(4) *** the western BCS coast,the maximum biomass was reached in 1981(at the beginning of fishery)and minimum biomass was reached in 2017;the estimated exploitable biomass for 2019 was 3.2×10^(4) t;and the MSY was 1.2×10^(4) *** stocks showed a decrease in biomass over the past years and were currently near to point of full *** results suggest that the use of the Catch-MSY method is suitable to obtain annual biomass estimates,in order to establish an ABC,to know the current state of the resource,and to avoid overcoming the potential recovery of the stocks.

Decreased concentrating capacity in children with febrile urinary tract infection and normal 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid scan:does medullonephritis exist?

Background:Although 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA)scan is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis(AP),sometimes it produces false results in children with clinical features of *** are no studies on the comparison of the sensitivity of DMSA and concentrating capacity ***:Eighty-fi ve infants with AP of less than one year old were studied to evaluate whether they had real AP or *** were compared between infants with an abnormal(group A,n=64)and those with a normal DMSA scan(group B,n=21)respectively.A DDAvP test was performed for each ***:All the infants in both groups presented a high level of C-reactive protein and fever(≥38oC).There were no differences in clinical and analytical variables except C-reactive protein level in the two *** groups exhibited a low urinary osmolality(87.5%in the group A vs.85.7%in the group B).The patients with normal DMSA and decreased concentrating capacity have some renal parenchymal damage and not only a lower urinary *** the infants with an abnormal DMSA scan,33.9%showed renal scars after 6-12 *** infant with a normal DMSA scan showed *** biochemical variables in both groups of infants were not related to vesicoureteral refl ***:Infants with AP,normal DMSA scan and low concentrating capacity may be characterized by a localized infection in the medulla(medullonephritis)or by a false negative DMSA scan.

Characterization of the Fungi Involved with Grapevine Trunk Diseases in Castilla-La Mancha Region,Spain

Grapevine trunk diseases (GTDs) are currently one of the most important problems for grapevine plant and wine industry, causing important economic cost in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Traditionally, GTDs were associated with diseases present in mature grapevines, however in recent years the incidence of young vine decline has been increasing. In this work, from 2009 to 2016, 250 young grapevine plants have been analysed by fungal isolation and characterization. In addition, during 2017, 32 mature plants showing decline symptoms were analysed. Both kinds of plants were analysed in order to identify the main fungal trunk pathogens present in Castilla-La Mancha region. As a result, it was possible to isolate species associated with black-foot disease (Cylindrocarpon-like anamorphs), esca and Petri disease (Phaeomoniella chlamydospora and Phaeoacremonium spp.), and Botryosphaeria dieback. All these pathogens were isolated from young and mature plants, this fact could suggest a common origin. The lack of effective control measures for these diseases makes it necessary to implement an integrated disease management strategy that provides an efficient approach to reduce infections in nurseries and get better results in infected vineyards.
