In the present work,an attempt is made to partially replace high cost silica sand with sustainable eco-friendly *** practical utility of cow dung as an additive material that facilitates binding in sand moulds has been *** Taguchi method is used to plan and conduct nine experiments with three replicates *** analysis of variance study is performed to understand the practical significance of moulding sand variables,that is,percentage of cow dung,clay,water,and degree of ramming on sand mould *** conflicting multiple objective functions(maximize mould hardness,and minimize collapsibility and gas evolution)are optimized by utilizing the Data Envelopment Analysis Ranking(DEAR)*** optimal parameters i.e.6%of clay,4%of water,5%of cow-dung and 4 numbers of ramming strokes are obtained by applying a hybrid Taguchi-DEAR *** parameters show the best moulding properties are:mould hardness 55,gas evolution 5.9 ml·g-1,and collapsibility 470 g·***,a Lovejoy coupling made of aluminium is cast in the sand mould prepared with cow dung and without cow dung,with the optimum set of *** mechanical properties,surface finish,and microstructure of the casting cast with cow-dung are better than that without cowdung.

The electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction(eNRR)holds significant promise as a sustainable alternative to the conventional large-scale Haber Bosch process,offering a carbon footprint-free approach for ammonia *** the process is thermodynamically feasible at ambient temperature and pressure,challenges such as the competing hydrogen evolution reaction,low nitrogen solubility in electrolytes,and the activation of inert dinitrogen(N_(2))gas adversely affect the performance of ammonia *** hurdles result in low Faradaic efficiency and low ammonia production rate,which pose obstacles to the commercialisation of the *** have been actively designing and proposing various electrocatalysts to address these issues,but challenges still need to be resolved.A key strategy in electrocatalyst design lies in understanding the underlying mechanisms that govern the success or failure of the electrocatalyst in driving the electrochemical *** mechanistic studies,we gain valuable insights into the factors affecting the reaction,enabling us to propose optimised designs to overcome the *** review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various mechanisms involved in eNRR on the electrocatalyst *** delves into the various mechanisms such as dissociative,associative,mars-van Krevelen,lithium-mediated nitrogen reduction and surface hydrogenation mechanisms of nitrogen *** unravelling the intricacies of eNRR mechanisms and exploring promising avenues,we can pave the way for more efficient and commercially viable ammonia synthesis through this sustainable electrochemical process by designing an efficient electrocatalyst.

Pulsed light processing of foods for microbial safety

The demand for processed foods and the awareness about food quality and safety are increasing *** consumers’demand for minimally processed foods and growing competition in the market have made the processors to adopt newer non-thermal technologies that preserve nutrients and sensory properties of the ***,heat processing of foods is carried out to convert raw material into value-added product,reduce or eliminate microbial load to improve safety,and extend shelf *** of the limitations of thermal processing techniques can be overcome by employing non-thermal *** hydrostatic pressure,pulsed electric field,ultrasound,cold plasma,dense phase carbon dioxide,ozone,and pulsed light(PL)processing are gaining popularity in food *** technology is a non-thermal technology,where sterilization and decontamination are achieved by impinging high-intensity light pulses of short durations on surfaces of foods and high-transmission *** a few reports on the PL technology are available,in-depth studies on this are needed to adopt at a commercial *** present review provides an overview of light-based processing of foods and covers important aspects such as different PL systems used for processing of foods,mode of action of PL on microbes,the effect of PL on liquid foods,surface decontamination of foods and parameters that affect PL efficacy,combination processing with *** the growing demand in non-thermal processing for the technological advancement in the area of generation of light,light-based processing will be a promising technology for microbial load reduction.

In vitro antioxidant assessment and a rapid HPTLC bioautographic method for the detection of anticholinesterase inhibitory activity of Geophila repens

OBJECTIVE： Geophila repens （L.） I. m. Johnst. （Rubiaceae）, a small, creeping, perennial herb, is claimed to have memory-enhancing property. The goal of this study was to assess its antioxidant and anticholinesterase activity and conduct a rapid bioautographic enzyme assay for screening acetylcholinesterase （ACHE） and butyrylcholinesterase （BChE） inhibition of G. repens extracts. mETHODS： Antioxidant activity of G. repens extracts was assessed by performing 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl （DPPH）, nitric oxide （NO）, superoxide （SOD）, hydroxyl （OH） and total antioxidant capacity （TAC） assays. Anticholinesterase activity was investigated by quantifying the AChE and BChE inhibitory activities of chloroform （CGR）, ethyl acetate （EGR） and methanol （mGR） extract fractions from G. repens leaves. A rapid high-performance thin-layer chromatography （HPTLC） bioautographic method for the detection of AChE and BChE inhibition was performed. RESULTS： Among all extract fractions, EGR exhibited the highest half maximal inhibitory concentration （IC50） in DPPH, SOD, NO, OH and TAC assays, with IC50 of （38.33 ± 3.21）, （45.14 ±1.78）, （59.81± 1.32）, （39.45 ± 0.79） and （43.76 ± 0.81 ） μg/mL respectively. EGR displayed competitive, reversible inhibition of AChE and BChE activities with IC50 of （68.63±0.45） and （59.45 ±0.45）μg/mL, respectively. Total phenolic and flavonoids contents of EGR were found to be 360.42 mg gallic acid equivalents and 257.31 mg quercetin equivalents per gram of extract. Phytoconstituents of the EGR extract that were inhibitors of cholinesterase produced white spots on the yellow background of HPTLC plates in the bioautographic test. CONCLUSION： The results of this study revealed that phenols and flavonoids could be responsible for the antioxidant, anticholinesterase activities of G. repens.

Identification of EST–SSRs and molecular diversity analysis in mentha piperita

EST sequences of mentha piperita available in the public domain(NCBI) were exploited to develop SSR markers. A total of 1316 ESTs were assembled into 155 contigs and 653 singletons and of these, 110 sequences were found to contain 130 SSRs, with a frequency of1 SSR/3.4 kb. Dinucleotide repeat SSRs were most frequent(72.3%) with the AG/CT(43.8%)repeat motif followed by AT/AT(16.2%). Primers were successfully designed for 68SSR-containing sequences(62.0%). The 68 primers amplified 13 accessions of m. piperita and 54 produced clear amplicons of the expected size. Of these 54, 33(61%) were found to be polymorphic among m. piperita accessions, showing from 2 to 4 alleles with an average of2.33 alleles/SSR, and the polymorphic information content(PIC) value varied between 0.13 and 0.51(average 0.25). All the amplified SSRs showed transferability among four different species of mentha, with a highest in mentha arvensis(87.0%) and minimum in mentha citrata(37.0%). The newly developed SSRs markers were found to be useful for diversity analysis, as they successfully differentiated among species and accessions of mentha.

Development of image motion compensation system for 1.3 m telescope at Vainu Bappu Observatory

We developed a tip-tilt system to compensate the turbulence induced image motion for the 1.3 m telescope at Vainu Bappu Observatory,at *** instrument is designed to operate at the visible wavelength band(480-700 nm)with a field of view of 1′×1′.The tilt corrected images have demonstrated up to ≈57% improvement in image resolution and a corresponding peak intensity increase by a factor of ≈2.8.A closed-loop correction bandwidth of ≈26 Hz has been achieved with on-sky tests and the root mean square motion of the star image has been reduced by a factor of ~*** results are consistent with theoretical and numerical predictions of wave-front aberrations caused by atmospheric turbulence and image quality improvement expected from a real-time control *** this paper,we present details of the instrument design,laboratory calibration studies and quantify its performance on the telescope.

Conservation and management of Forest Resources in India: Ancient and Current Perspectives

This paper brings out the issues related to natural resource exists, management and erosion right from the ancient to modern era. The natural resource such as forests and forest products were found as a basic source of survival for living organisms during the initial period. Later, the natural resources started degrading slowly and steadily due to increased human activities. In the beginning, natural resources were the primary assets for the growth of agriculture, industry, urbanization etc. Subsequently, increased anthropogenic activities started degrading the forest cover on a large scale through extending the agricultural land scape and other developmental activities in the country. The importance of traditional knowledge regarding resource conservation, protection of sacred grooves, endangered species etc. started declining in modern India. Innovativeness and policy framework for resource conservation and utilization became unfriendly in addition to gradual decline of community management. The key findings of the study point to major gaps existing such as between line departments and institutions in the promotion and management of forests, human welfare, agriculture, animal husbandry etc. moreover, people tend to be more inclined towards the utilization of natural resources rather than conservation. From an observational and practical point of view, the natural resource has been declining rapidly in India. Therefore, this study strongly suggests that a due attention be directed towards developing people-friendly and environment friendly conservation strategies.
