This study aimed to determine the appropriate nutritional intakes and dietary habits of high school-aged cross-country skiers and speed skaters. The subjects, all high school students from N Prefecture, included 18 male cross-country skiers, 5 male speed skaters, 10 female cross-country ski players and 4 female speed skaters. Physical measurements, food intake frequency survey results, bone mineral density and exercise stress test outcomes, and lactic acid measurements were evaluated. Female athletes in both sports had higher body fat percentages relative to the average range stated for female athletes. Male speed skaters had a significantly higher maximum oxygen in-take than that male cross-country skiers did. By contrast, this parameter did not differ significantly among female athletes. A negative correlation was observed between the fat free mass and muscle mass, and a positive correlation was observed among the body fat percentage, fat percentage, and fat mass. Both male and female athletes had protein intake ratios within the reference ranges. All athletes except male speed skaters had lipid energy ratios that were higher than the upper limit of the reference value. Both male and female athletes also reported carbohydrate energy ratios within the reference ranges, but had cereal energy ratios below the reference values. Athletes should pay attention to the ingestion of various nutrients to ensure a sufficient energy intake. Accordingly, adolescent athletes should consume daily meals containing a good balance of staple foods, main dishes, side dishes, milk and other dairy products, and fruits.

AIM: To evaluate the applicability and safety of ambulatory laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and to compare day case and overnight stay LC. METHODS: Data were collected retrospectively and consecutively for day case and overnight stay LC patients from July 1, 2009 to April 30, 2011. Outcomes were analyzed for patient demographics, operation time, blood loss during operation and frequency and reasons for unexpected or prolonged hospitalization in each group. RESULTS: There was no hospital mortality and no patient was readmitted with serious morbidity after discharge. 50 patients received a day case LC and 19 had an overnight stay LC. There was a significant difference in age between both groups (P < 0.02). There were no significant differences between the day case LC performed (n = 41) and failed (n = 9) groups and between the day case LC performed and the one night stay LC (n = 12) groups. There was a significant difference in age between the one night stay and more nights stay LC groups (P < 0.05). Thus, elderly patients showed a tendency to like to stay in hospital rather than being a day case. The proportion of unexpected or prolonged hospitalization was not significantly different between the day case and overnight stay LC groups, when the patient’s request was excluded. CONCLUSION: Day case LC can be performed with a low rate of complications. In overnight stay patients, there are many who could be performed safely as a day case. Moreover, we need to take special care to treat elderly patients.

Simultaneous Occurrence of Myofascial Pain Referred to Tooth and Endodontic Lesions in Patient with Toothache: A Case Report

Toothache is almost always caused by odontogenic toothache, but diagnosis is more difficult in the case of nonodontogenic toothache. We report a case of simultaneous occurrence of odontogenic and nonodontogenic toothache. This manuscript presents a case report for a 35-year-old woman who visited our Orofacial and Head Pain Clinic with the chief complaint of continuous dull pain in left maxillary molar teeth region. It was concluded to be a case of simultaneous odontogenic toothache and nonodontogenic toothache. It was successfully treated by an endodontist and an orofacial pain specialist. The endodontist performed root canal treatment against odontogenic toothache caused by apical periodontitis using a dental operating microscope. The presence of a trigger point (TP) resulting in tooth pain was inferred. A trigger point injection (TPI) was administered by orofacial pain specialist, and toothache relief was confirmed. Myofascial pain was diagnosed definitively. After confirming that the toothache had resolved at multiple TPIs, a crown prosthesis was placed. Following the application of crown prosthesis, we were concerned but did not find recurrence of toothache from myofascial pain due to increased occlusal force. This case suggests that there is no single cause of chronic pain and that multiple causes must be considered for diagnosis, suggesting the need for treatment by multiple specialists.

＜正＞Effect of thermomechanical and magnetic treatment on creep characteristics of advanced heat resistant ferritic steels for USC power plants has been investigated to explore fundamental guiding principles for improving creep rupture strength at elevated temperaturesover600℃. Amodelsteelwithacompositionof Fe-0.08C-9Cr-3.3W-3Co-0.2V-0.05Nb-0.05N-0.005B-0.3Si-0.5Mn （in mass%） has been prepared by vacuum induction furnace. Creep tests at 650℃and microstructural observations were performed on the thermomechanical and magnetic treated specimens after *** thermomechanical treated samples without magnetic field showed some improvement in creep strength comparing with ordinarily normalized and tempered *** improvement was observed in the specimen that had been exposed to a magnetic field during transformation into the martensite. From the result of microstructural observation, it was found that the finely distributed precipitates such as MX and M23C6 caused this improvement. And it was suggested that the magnetic treatment at martensitic transformation increase the precipitation sites during tempering, resulting in increasing the amount and preventing the growth of the precipitates.

Incidental Serous Tubal Intraepithelial Carcinoma Detected by a Surgery for Ectopic Pregnancy

＜正＞Although semi-natural grasslands make an important contribution to regional biological diversity in Japan, methods to estimate this contribution have not been investigated. To evaluate the biological diversity of semi-natural grasslands resulting from the combination of the three data sources-plant communities, butterfly communities, and the interaction of both communities-, three areas in the sub-alpine zone in central Japan were surveyed. The number of butterflies and the frequency of interactions with plants were recorded by the transect method within August and September 2002 at the same time when vegetation surveys were carried out. The biological diversity of a plant community as a semi-natural grassland in the Mt. Yashigamine was higher than that of the other areas examined, while the biological diversity of the Mt. Nyuugasa was higher than that of the Mt. Ikeyama （Mori and okubo 2005）. From the number of butterfly species and individuals and the characteristic species, Mt. Yashigamine was evaluated as having the highest biological diversity, with Mt. Nyuugasa second and Mt. Ikeyama third. From the results of the ER-index value analysis, the three study areas were similarly estimated to represent an environmental condition between the primitive stage and afforested stage. Nevertheless, the ER-index for the afforested stage at Mt. Ikeyama was the highest of the three areas, while the ER-index and Rl-index results from Mt. Ikeyama were lowest. The biological diversity of butterfly communities was the same as that of the plant communities. We postulate that the similarity in the two sets of results is because the plant communities influence the butterfly communities through the supply of feed and habitat. It appears that the Mt. Yashigamine scored the highest biological diversity because it occurs within a larger contiguous area of semi-natural grassland. The results of the frequency of nectar feeding at Mt. Serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma is a putative precursor of high-grade serous carcinoma, which is the most common histological type of ovarian or pelvic peritoneal cancer. Serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma is commonly found in patients with breast cancer susceptibility gene mutations who undergo risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy. Incidental serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma found by a non-prophylactic surgery is rare. A 33-year-old woman referred to our hospital for a diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. She underwent a laparoscopic right salpingectomy. Pathologically, ectopic pregnancy in the ampulla of the right fallopian tube was confirmed and serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma was observed in the fallopian tube. Subsequently, she underwent a laparoscopic hysterectomy, bilateral oophorectomy, and left salpingectomy as additional treatment. She has experienced no recurrence thus far for 37 months since the surgery.
