In the dissolution step of spent nuclear fuel, there is a world-concern problem that zirconium molybdate hydrate precipitates as a byproduct, and accumulates in some reprocessing equipments. In order to prevent this accumulation, we have developed a new method based on the controlled reaction crystallization of zirconium molybdate hydrate （ZMH） in the reprocessing solution, followed by solid liquid separation. In order to measure the particle size of ZMH, batch crystallization experiments were conducted by varying nitric acid concentration and operating temperature. In result, almost all particle sizes scatter around 1μm on average, despite the higher concentration of nitric aid and operating temperature, and then small particles grow up as an aggregate sticking to the crystallizer. Moreover, polymorph and color changing were observed by varying the concentration of nitric acid and reaction time. These results suggest that crystal color and adhesiveness are closely related to the particle size of ZMH. And the control of nitric acid concentration and small particle growth would be the useful technique to prevent the ZMH sticking.

Sweet potato shochu is a traditional Japanese spirit produced mainly in the South Kyushu area in Japan. The amount of stillage reaches approximately 8 x 105 tons per year. Wastewater mainly containing stillage from the production of sweet potato-shochu was treated thermophilically in a fullscale treatment plant using fixed-bed reactors （8 reactors ×283 m3）. Following the addition of Ni2＋ and Co2＋, the reactors have been stably operated for six years at a high chemical oxygen demand （COD） loading rate of 14 kg/（***）. Analysis of coenzyme content and microbial communities indicated that similar microbial communities were present in the liquid phase and on the fiber carders installed in reactors. Bacteria in the phyla Firmieutes as well as Bacteroidetes were dominant bacteria, and Methanosarcina thermophila as well as Methanothermobacter crinale were dominant methanogens in the reactors. This study reveals that stillage from sweet potato-shochu production can be treated effectively in a full-scale fixed-bed reactor under thermophilic conditions with the help of Ni2~ and Co2＋. The high diversity of bacterial community and the coexistence of both aceticlastic and hydrogenotrophic methanogens contributed to the excellent fermentation performance.

The development of vehicle integrated photovoltaics-powered electric vehicles (VIPV-EV) significantly reduces CO2 emissions from the transport sector to realize a decarbonized society. Although long-distance driving of VIPV-EV without electricity charging is expected in sunny regions, driving distance of VIPV-EV is affected by climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules. In this paper, detailed analytical results for effects of climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules upon driving distance of the VIPV-EV were presented by using test data for Toyota Prius and Nissan Van demonstration cars installed with high-efficiency InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs 3-junction solar cell modules with a module efficiency of more than 30%. The temperature rise of some PV modules studied in this study was shown to be expressed by some coefficients related to solar irradiation, wind speed and radiative cooling. The potential of VIPV-EV to be deployed in 10 major cities was also analyzed. Although sunshine cities such as Phoenix show the high reduction ratio of driving range with 17% due to temperature rise of VIPV modules, populous cities such as Tokyo show low reduction ratio of 9%. It was also shown in this paper that the difference between the driving distance of VIPV-EV driving in the morning and the afternoon is due to PV modules’ radiative cooling. In addition, the importance of heat dissipation of PV modules and the development of high-efficiency PV modules with better temperature coefficients was suggested in order to expand driving range of VIPV-EV. The effects of air-conditioner usage and partial shading in addition to the effects of temperature rise of VIPV modules were suggested as the other power losses of VIPV-EV.

Characterization and E protein expression of mutant strains during persistent infection of KN73 cells with Japanese encephalitis virus

OBJECTIVE: To study the character of mutants originating from Japanese encephalitis viruses and the relationship between the characterization of mutant strains and E protein expression. METHODS: Persistent infection was established with standard strains of Japanese encephalitis viruse, known as parental viruse, in a human hepatoma cell line, KN73. Cells were subcultured weekly using trypsinization techniques. Cell-associated viruses of persistently infected cells were collected by a freeze and thaw method. Virus titers were examined by plaque method using baby hamster kidney (BHK) cells. Indirect immunofluorescence assays were used to examine E and NS3 protein antigens. Western blot analysis was used to test expression of E and NS3 proteins. RESULTS: In the early phase (24 - 36 h) post-infection, virus titer in culture fluid from KN73 cells infected with parental viruses were 10(6) PFU/ml. They were 10(3 - 4) PFU/ml in the late phase (3 years) post-infection. The titer of cell-associated viruse was 10(2 - 3) PFU/ml. A virus super-infection assay found that virus titers in culture fluid from persistently infected KN73 cells acutely super- infected with parental viruses were much lower than that of culture fluids in acutely infected normal KN73 at the same phase. Indirect immunoflurescence assay revealed that the quantity of viral antigens in persistently infected KN73 cells was lower than that in acutely infected KN73 cells with parental viruses. Western blot analyses indicated that the molecular weights of E and NS3 proteins were 53 kD and 73 kD, respectively. Expression of NS3 protein in persistently infected KN73 cells was stable but expression of E protein was markedly suppressed. CONCLUSIONS: The virulence and reproduction of viruses obtained from persistently infected KN73 cells, which have some features of DI viruses and were involved in persistent infection, was lower than that of parental viruses. We propose ghost imaging(GI)with deep learning to improve detection ***,which uses an illumination light with random patterns and a single-pixel detector,is correlation-based and thus suitable for detecting weak ***,its detection time is too long for practical *** overcome this problem,we applied a convolutional neural network that was constructed based on a classification of the causes of ghost image degradation.A feasibility experiment showed that when using a digital mirror device projector and a photodiode,the proposed method improved the quality of ghost images.

AIM： To review the cases reported in the literature, examined their clinicopathological features, and evaluated the efficacy of different therapeutic modalities for this rare condition. METHODS： A search of the MEDLINE database revealed 16 cases of pericarditis carcinomatosa （PC） originating from GC reported in the literature between 1982 and 2005. Additional detailed data were obtained from the authors of these studies for subsequent clinicopathological investigation. We have also described about a case study from our own clinic. RESULTS： The mean age of cases with pericarditis carcinomatosa originating from GC was 54 years. Females were diagnosed at a younger age （46.3 years） compared to males （58 years）. The mean survival period afer diagnosis was 4.5 mo. No statistical differences in the length of survival time were found between different therapeutic modalities, such as drainage, and local and/or systemic chemotherapy after drainage. However, three cases who underwent systemic chemotherapy survived for more than 10 mo. Cases that developed metachronous cardiac tamponade for more than 2 years afer the diagnosis of GC generally survived for a longer period of time, although this was not statistically significant. Multivariate analysis revealed that low levels of carcinoembryonic antigen （CEA）, and CEA and/or cancer antigen 19-9 （CA 19-9） were associated with longer survival. CONCLUSION： Cases with low levels of CEA, and CEA and/or CA 19-9 should undergo systemic chemotherapy with or without local chemotherapy afer drainage.

Improvement of regional cerebral blood flow after oral intake of ranched-chain amino acids in patients with cirrhosis

AIM： To evaluate the effect of oral intake of branchedchain amino acids （BCAA） on brain perfusion in patients with liver cirrhosis. METHODS： Single photon emission computed tomography scans were performed in 43 patients with cirrhosis and in 15 age-matched healthy subjects. Twenty-nine out of forty-three patients were randomly treated with either BCAA granules or placebo, and single photon emission computed tomography was performed before and after the treatment. We measured the regional cerebral blood flow values using a threedimensional stereotaxic region of interest template. RESULTS： Cirrhotic patients had regions of significant hypoperfusion in the bilateral central （right P = 0.039, P〈0.05; left P = 0.006 P〈0.01）, parietal （right P = 0.028, P〈0.05; left P = 0.009, P〈0.01）, angular （right P = 0.039, P〈0.05; left P = 0.008, P〈0.01）, and left pericallosal segments （P = 0.038 P〈0.05） as compared with healthy subjects. A significant increase in cerebral perfusion was observed 70 min after the oral intake of BCAA in the angular （right P = 0.012, P〈0.05; left P = 0.049, P〈0.05）, temporal （right P = 0.012, P〈0.05; left P=0.038, P〈0.05）, pericallosal segments （right P = 0.025, P〈0.05; left P = 0.049, P〈0.05） and left precentral （P = 0.044, P〈0.05）, parietal （P = 0.040, P〈0.05） and thalamus （P = 0.033, P〈0.05）. No significant change in perfusion was observed in the placebo group. CONCLUSION： Administration of BCAA rapidly improves cerebral perfusion.
