Cellular antioxidant and viability efficacy of Harpephyllum caffrum peel and Syzygium guineense seed extracts

Crude phenolic extracts of indigenous sub-Saharan fruit byproducts have potent antioxidant *** of these extracts and evaluation of their antioxidant activity and viability using appropriate biological models,has,however,not yet been *** current study quantitatively evaluated the phenolic composition and in vitro antioxidant activity of crude and purified extracts(PE)of Harpephyllum caffrum peel(HCP)and Syzygium guineense seed(SGS),and cellular antioxidant and viability efficacy of the *** were extracted by 60%ethanol(v/v)solvent system and purified using XAD7HP macroporous adsorption *** UPLC/Q-TOF-mS was used for the characterization and identification of *** antioxidant activity(CAA)assay was applied to assess the antioxidant efficacy and cytotoxicity of the *** of variance of data was done using a generalized linear mixed model with fruit type,extract purity and their interaction as fixed *** increased(P≤0.05)HCP total phenolic concentration(TPC)by over 200%,while SGS TPC decreased(P≤0.05)by 20%.Regardless of fruit type,PE had higher(P≤0.05)quantities of proanthocyanidins and anthocyanins than crude *** HCP-PE had greater(P≤0.05)in vitro antioxidant activity than the other extracts(P≤0.05).Cellular antioxidant activity of HCP-PE was comparable to that of sodium metabisulphite(P>0.05).Also,HCP-PE had lower(P≤0.05)cytotoxic effects than SGS and sodium metabisulphite with increasing antioxidant *** was concluded that HCP-PE is a potential source of safe natural antioxidants for nutraceutical applications.

The sexually dimorphic expression of glutamate transporters and their implication in pain after spinal cord injury

In addition to the loss of motor function,~60% of patients develop pain after spinal cord *** cellular-molecular mechanisms are not well understood,but the data suggests that plasticity within the rostral,epicenter,and caudal penumbra of the injury site initiates a cellularmolecular interplay that acts as a rewiring mechanism leading to central neuropathic *** can lead to the formation of new connections triggering abnormal sensory *** excitatory glutamate transporters are responsible for the reuptake of extracellular glutamate which makes them a critical target to prevent neuronal hyperexcitability and *** previous studies showed a sexually dimorphic therapeutic window for spinal cord injury after treatment with the selective estrogen receptor modulator *** this study,we investigated the anti-allodynic effects of tamoxifen in male and female rats with spinal cord *** hypothesized that tamoxifen exerts anti-allodynic effects by increasing the expression of glutamate transporters,leading to reduced hyperexcitability of the secondary neuron or by decreasing aberrant *** and female rats received a moderate contusion to the thoracic spinal cord followed by subcutaneous slow-release treatment of tamoxifen or matrix pellets as a control(placebo).We used von Frey monofilaments and the“up-down method”to evaluate mechanical *** treatment decreased allodynia only in female rats with spinal cord injury revealing a sexdependent *** expression profile of glutamatergic transporters(excitatory amino acid transporter 1/glutamate aspartate transporter and excitatory amino acid transporter 2/glutamate transporter-1)revealed a sexual dimorphism in the rostral,epicenter,and caudal areas of the spinal cord with a pattern of expression primarily on *** rodents showed a significantly higher level of excitatory amino acid transporter-1 expression while male rodents showed increased

Electrical energy is essential for modern society to sustain economic *** soaring demand for the electrical energy,together with an awareness of the environmental impact of fossil fuels,has been driving a shift towards the utilization of solar ***,traditional solar energy solutions often require extensive spaces for a panel installation,limiting their practicality in a dense urban *** overcome the spatial constraint,researchers have developed transparent photovoltaics(TPV),enabling windows and facades in vehicles and buildings to generate electric *** TPV advancements are focused on improving both transparency and power output to rival commercially available silicon solar *** this review,we first briefly introduce wavelength-and non-wavelengthselective strategies to achieve *** of merit and theoretical limits of TPVs are discussed to comprehensively understand the status of current TPV *** we highlight recent progress in different types of TPVs,with a particular focus on solution-processed thin-film photovoltaics(PVs),including colloidal quantum dot PVs,metal halide perovskite PVs and organic *** applications of TPVs are also reviewed,with emphasis on agrivoltaics,smart windows and ***,current challenges and future opportunities in TPV research are pointed out.

An 18-year-old man presented with a history of fightsided abdominal pain and weight loss. Clinical examination revealed the presence of a right-sided abdominal mass arising from the pelvis. trust-based co-operative routing for secure communication in mobile ad hoc networks

The working of a mobile Ad hoc NETwork(mANET)relies on the supportive cooperation among the network *** due to its intrinsic features,a misbehaving node can easily lead to a routing *** paper presents two trust-based routing schemes,namely trust-based Self-Detection Routing(TSDR)and trust-based Cooperative Routing(TCOR)designed with an Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector(AODV)*** proposed work covers a wide range of security challenges,including malicious node identification and prevention,accurate trust quantification,secure trust data sharing,and trusted route *** brings a prominent solution for mitigating misbehaving nodes and establishing efficient communication in *** is empirically validated based on a performance comparison with the current Evolutionary Self-Cooperative trust(ESCT)scheme,Generalized trust model(GTm),and the conventional AODV *** extensive simulations are conducted against three different varying network *** results affirm the improved values of eight popular performance metrics overcoming the existing routing *** the two proposed works,TCOR is more suitable for highly scalable networks;TSDR suits,however,the mANET application better with its small *** work thus makes a significant contribution to the research community,in contrast to many previous works focusing solely on specific security aspects,and results in a trade-off in the expected values of evaluation parameters and asserts their efficiency.

A sophisticated theoretical and mathematical model is *** is verified that this model can estimate and monitor the detailed behavior for the steady Carreau fluid flow past a nonlinear stretching surface and the predicted phenomena due to the presence of heat flux,thermal radiation,and viscous *** the fact that some properties of the fluid do not depend on the temperature,the fluid thermal conductivity is assumed to depend on the *** on accelerating the fluid elements,some of the kinetic energy for the fluid can be turned to the internal heating energy in the form of viscous dissipation *** contribution in this study is that a similar solution is obtained,in spite of the high nonlinearity of the Carreau model,especially,with the heat flux,variable conductivity,and viscous dissipation *** of the major significant findings of this study can be observed from the reduction in the fluid velocity with enhancing the Weissenberg ***,the increase in the sheet temperature is noted with increasing the Eckert number while the reverse behavior is observed for increasing both the radiation parameter and the conductivity ***,the accuracy and trust in the proposed numerical method are validated after benchmarking for our data onto the earlier results.

Future impact of integrated high-throughput methylome analyses on human health and disease

A spate of high-powered genome-wide association studies （GWAS） have recently identified numerous single-nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） robustly linked with complex disease. Despite interrogating the majority of common human variation, these SNPs only account for a small proportion of the phenotypic variance, which suggests genetic factors are acting in concert with non-genetic factors. Although environmental measures are logical covariants for genotype-phenotype investigations, another non-genetic intermediary exists： epigenetics. Epigenetics is the analysis of somatically-acquired and, in some cases, transgenerationally inherited epigenetic modifications that regulate gene expression, and offers to bridge the gap between genetics and environment to understand phenotype. The most widely studied epigenetic mark is DNA methylation. Aberrant methylation at gene promoters is strongly implicated in disease etiology, most notably cancer. This review will highlight the importance of DNA methylation as an epigenetic regulator, outline techniques to characterize the DNA methylome and present the idea of reverse phenotyping, where multiple layers of analysis are integrated at the individual level to create personalized digital phenotypes and, at a phenotype level, to identify novel molecular signatures of disease.
