The Use of Video Conferencing for Persons with Chronic Conditions: A Systematic Review

The purpose of this paper is to present a systematic review of studies that used Video Conferencing (VC) intervention for common chronic conditions. Chronic conditions account for the majority of poor health, disability, and death, and for a major portion of health-care expenditures in the United States. Innovative methods and interventions are needed to enhance care and management, improve access to care, improve patient outcomes, narrow health disparities and reduce healthcare costs. Video Conferencing could be particularly relevant in improving health, care management, access and cost in the care of chronic illnesses. A comprehensive literature search process guided by the PRISmA statement led to the inclusion of 27 articles measuring video conferencing, at least one chronic illness, and patient outcomes for adults living in a community setting. While VC has been found to be feasible and effective, a low number of randomized controlled trials limit evidence. In addition, studies in this review were not designed to address the question of whether access to care in rural areas is improved through VC. Hence, more research is needed.

Analyzing undiluted whole human blood is a challenge due to its complex composition of hematopoietic cellular populations,nucleic acids,metabolites,and *** present a novel multi-functional microfluidic acoustic streaming platform that enables sorting,enrichment and in situ identification of cellular subsets from whole *** single device platform,based on lateral cavity acoustic transducers(LCAT),enables(1)the sorting of undiluted donor whole blood into its cellular subsets(platelets,RBCs,and WBCs),(2)the enrichment and retrieval of breast cancer cells(mCF-7)spiked in donor whole blood at rare cell relevant concentrations(10 mL^(−1)),and(3)on-chip immunofluorescent labeling for the detection of specific target cellular populations by their known marker expression *** approach thus demonstrates a compact system that integrates upstream sample processing with downstream separation/enrichment,to carry out multi-parametric cell analysis for blood-based diagnosis and liquid biopsy blood sampling.

Objectives:The unrelenting migration trend of Filipino nurses to other countries has threatened the quality of patient care services in the *** study explored the extent of nurses'organizational commitment and turnover intention in the ***,predictors of nurses'organizational commitment and turnover intention were ***:A cross-sectional research design was adopted for this *** hundred nurses from nine rural hospitals in the Central Philippines were asked to participate in the study and 166 nurses responded(an 83%response rate).Two standardized instruments were used:the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire and the Six-item Turnover Intention Inventory ***:Findings revealed that Philippine nurses were moderately committed(3.13±0.24)to and were undecided(2.42±0.67)whether or not to leave their ***'age(P=0.006),gender,(t=-2.25,P=0.026),education(t=2.38,Pmmitment,while nurses'age(P=0.028)and education(t=1.99,P=0.048)correlated significantly with turnover *** inverse relationship was identified between the organizational commitment and turnover intention(r=-0.22,P=0.005).Conclusion:The findings of this study highlight the need for formulation and implementation of interventions to promote life-long commitment in nurses and to reduce turnover rates.

AIm To investigate the independent effects of 6-mo of dietary energy restriction or exercise training on wholebody and hepatic fat oxidation of patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).mETHODS Participants were randomised into either circuit exercise training(EX;n = 13;3 h/wk without changes in dietary habits),or dietary energy restriction(ER) without changes in structured physical activity(ER;n = 8).Respiratory quotient(RQ) and whole-body fat oxidation rates(Fatox) were determined by indirect calorimetry under basal,insulin-stimulated and exercise *** of disease and steatosis was determined by liver histology;hepatic Fatox was estimated from plasma β-hydroxybutyrate ***;cardiorespiratory fitness was expressed as VO2 ***-case analysis was performed(EX:n = 10;ER:n = 6).RESULTS Hepatic steatosis and NAFLD activity score decreased with ER but not with EX.β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations increased significantly in response to ER(0.08 ± 0.02 mmol/L vs 0.12 ± 0.04 mmol/L,P = 0.03) but remained unchanged in response to EX(0.10 ± 0.03 mmol/L vs 0.11 ± 0.07 mmol/L,P = 0.39).Basal RQ decreased(P = 0.05) in *** EX,while this change was not significant after ER(P = 0.38).VO_(2peak)(P maximal Fa_(tox) during aerobic exercise(P = 0.03) improved with EX but not with ER(P > 0.05).The increase in β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations was correlated with the reduction in hepatic steatosis(r =-0.56,P = 0.04).CONCLUSION ER and EX lead to specific benefits on fat metabolism of patients with *** hepatic Fat_(ox) in response to ER could be one mechanism through which the ER group achieved reduction in steatosis.
