Prevalence and clinical significance of antiphospholipid antibodies among hospitalized COVID-19 patients

Objective:To describe the prevalence of antiphospholipid antibodies in coronavirus disease-19(COVID-19)and to find potential associations between antiphospholipid antibody positivity and clinical ***:From September to November 2020,clinical and laboratory data were collected from 50 COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Saiful Anwar General Hospital in Malang,*** antibodies were measured by finding Ig M anti-β2 glycoprotein,lupus anticoagulant,and Ig M/Ig G *** characteristics,thrombotic events,ICU admission,and mortality during hospitalization were *** severity was defined by the Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19,***:Among 50 patients,5 patients(10.0%)were positive for antiphospholipid antibodies:4 patients(80.0%)had Ig M anti-β2 glycoprotein and 1 patient had Ig G anti-cardiolipin(20.0%)and Ig M anti-cardiolipin(20.0%),none of lupus anticoagulant was *** antibodies were associated with anosmia(OR 8.1;95%CI 1.1-57.9;P=0.018),nausea and vomiting(OR 12.4;95%CI 1.2-122.6;P=0.010),diarrhea(OR 9.8;95%CI 1.3-70.9;P=0.010),cardiovascular disease(OR 1.4;95%CI 1.0-1.9;P=0.001),chronic kidney disease(OR 12.0;95%CI 1.6-90.1;P=0.05),acute coronary syndrome(OR 29.3;95%CI 2.0-423.7;P=0.001),moderate(OR 0.11;95%CI 0.01-1.10;P=0.031)and severe(OR 18.5;95%CI 1.8-188.4;P=0.002)disease severity,and in-hospital mortality(OR 8.1;95%CI 1.1-57.9;P=0.018).However,there is no correlation between the presence of antiphospholipid antibody and ICU ***:In summary,the prevalence of antiphospholipid antibodies in COVID-19 patients is low,mainly against Ig M anticardiolipin,and is associated with an acute coronary syndrome,gastrointestinal manifestations,moderate and severe disease severity,and increased risk of mortality.

Countermeasure Method for Stope Instability in Crown Pillar Area of Cut and Fill Underground Mine

Maintaining stability as well as optimizing recovery of crown pillar, a pillar separating surface area with the uppermost stope in overhand cut and fill underground mining method, is important. Failures in stope may lead to crown pillar failures and cause surface subsidence. Increasing crown pillar thickness will increase crown pillar stability yet reduce mining recovery because part of crown pillar is formed by ore body. Preventing stope failure is the key to maintain stability and optimize recovery of crown pillar. Therefore, it is important to study countermeasure method for stope failure especially in crown pillar area. An attempt has been made to investigate the effectiveness of various countermeasures for stope failure in crown pillar area by means of parametric study. The result shows active type support system is effective for supporting stope in high vertical stress condition while the passive one needs to be installed if the stope is opened in high horizontal stress condition. In general, more supporting capacity from both type support systems is needed if the stope is opened in more severe geological condition. Another countermeasures, sill pillar and surface pile, are introduced for stope instability in crown pillar and non-crown pillar area. Sill pillar is an abandoned slice of unstable stope based on stability analysis. Sill pillar is very effective to stabilize stope both in crown pillar and non-crown pillar area, especially for stope in high horizontal stress condition. Sill pillar application in model with stress ratio 2 can optimize 20 meter thickness of crown pillar into 5 meter. Another proposed countermeasure is surface pile. Surface pile can be installed from the surface to improve stability of crown pillar and stope. The most effective use of surface pile is found in simulation of model with stress ratio 0.75 where surface pile can optimize 15 meter thickness of crown pillar into 5 meter.

Background and Objective: Syzygium aromaticum is an immunomodulator with the main active compound eugenol which can stimulate the function of lymphocyte proliferation and macrophage production. Lymphocytes play an important role for body protection against infection. This study aims to analyze the effect of S. aromaticum extract to increase proliferation of lymphocytes, lymphoblasts and macrophage production in Balb/c mice infected with Salmonella typhimurium. Methodology: Mice strain Balb/c were divided into 4 groups: treatment group infected with S. typhimurium and control group (without treatment) to tested the activity of peritoneal macrophages. The treatment group was administrated by S. aromaticum leaf extract (15 mg, 75 mg, 150 mg/kgbw) for 12 days. Results: S. aromaticum leaf extract increased the proliferation activity (p Conclusion: Administration of S. aromaticum leaf extract increased the proliferation activity of lymphocytes, lymphoblasts and ROI secretion of macrophagesin Balb/c mice infected with S. typhimurium.
