Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Drought in the North-Eastern Coastal Region of Vietnam Using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI)

Spatio-temporal analysis of drought provides valuable information for drought management and damage mitigation. In this study, the Standardized Precipitation Index at the time scale of 6 months (SPI-6) is selected to reflect drought conditions in the North-Eastern coastal region of Vietnam. The drought events and their characteristics from 1981 to 2019 are detected at 9 meteorological stations and 10 Chirps rainfall stations. The spatio-temporal variation of drought in the study region is analyzed on the basis of the number, duration, severity, intensity, and peak of the detected drought events at the 19 stations. The results show that from 1981 to 2019 the drought events mainly occurred with 1-season duration and moderate intensity and peak. The number, duration, severity, and peak of the drought events were the greatest in the period 2001-2010 and were the smallest in the period 2011-2019. Among the 19 stations, the drought duration tends to decrease at 11 stations, increase at 7 stations, and has a slight variant at 1 station;the drought severity tends to decrease at 14 stations, increase at 4 stations, and has not a significant trend at 1 station;the drought intensity tends to decrease at 17 stations, increase at 1 station, and has a slight variant at 1 station;and the drought peak tends to decrease at 18 stations and increase at 1 station.

In recent years,water for agricultural production gradually became a significant challenge in the context of climate change in *** solutions are required,which consider the use of resources for both human needs and ecology,and that account for the equitable distribution and the livelihood of the farmers now and in the *** particular,the farmers in the province of Quang Nam faring water shortage in the cultivation of paddy in the summer-autumn *** arise regarding the sharing of the water between the farmers,the drinking water company and the hydropower *** the context of climate change,the water shortage is expected to increase in the *** article presents the results of participatory action research (PAR) approach to develop a local level mechanism for water sharing,in which stakeholders actively *** sharing mechanism was developed,envisioning a sustainable solution for inclusive water *** mechanism was successfully implemented in two cases,one at commune level (Tho stream) and one at the district level (Mo stream).The participatory approach proved to be successful in setting up a broadly acceptable mechanism that will need to be further incorporated in the institutional set-up.

Utilization of the body’s regenerative potential for tissue repair is known as in situ tissue ***,the use of exogenous growth factors requires delicate control of the dose and delivery strategies and may be accompanied by safety,efficacy and cost *** this study,we developed,for the first time,a biomaterial-based strategy to activate endogenous transforming growth factor beta 1(TGFβ1)under alkaline conditions for effective in situ tissue *** demonstrated that alkaline-activated TGFβ1 from blood serum,bone marrow fluids and soaking solutions of meniscus and tooth dentin was capable of increasing cell recruitment and early differentiation,implying its broad ***,we engineered an injectable hydrogel(MS-Gel)consisting of gelatin microspheres for loading strong alkaline substances and a modified gelatin matrix for hydrogel click *** vitro models showed that alkaline MS-Gel controllably and sustainably activated endogenous TGFβ1 from tooth dentin for robust bone marrow stem cell *** importantly,infusion of in vivo porcine prepared root canals with alkaline MS-Gel promoted significant pulp-dentin regeneration with neurovascular stroma and mineralized tissue by endogenous proliferative ***,this work offers a new bench-to-beside translation strategy using biomaterial-activated endogenous biomolecules to achieve in situ tissue regeneration without the need for cell or protein delivery.

The δ18O and δ2H stable isotope techniques for studying properties of groundwater and surface help us to understand more clearly about the distribution and movement of groundwater in the South of Hanoi area. There were 68 water samples from the studying area and analyzed by a Liquid Water Isotope Analyzer (LWIA-24D). The stable isotope values of the groundwater from Pleistocene aquifers were range from -3.21‰ to -9.55‰ δ18O and -35.32‰ to -67.44‰ δ2H;rainwater from -8.18‰ to -4.13‰ δ18O and -61.19‰ to -17.93‰ δ2H;Red river water from -7.51‰ to -5.29‰ δ18O and -51.60‰ to -38.99‰ δ2H. Based on stable isotope characteristics, the results show that there was a relationship between surface water and groundwater in the South of Hanoi city. It is that groundwater recharges for river water in the dry season with 74%, and in the rainfall season groundwater is recharged from river with 87%.

Importance:Nutritional status of infants,measured by birth weight and length,is an essential factor in neonatal *** in newborns may lead to a higher risk of mortality,neurological and cognitive impairment,and poor language ***:This study aims to assess the nutritional status of infants and related factors regarding maternal anthropometric characteristics and medical ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology,Vietnam from May 2021 to May 2022 on 340 infants and *** birth weight was defined following the Intergrowth-21 *** was evaluated using the Fenton growth chart when the length was below the 10%percentile line of the gestational *** regression models were applied to identify factors associated with the nutritional status of ***:We found that 12.4%and 14.1%of infants in our study fell into stunted and underweight categories,*** of mothers over 35 years old,having a height lower than 150 cm or experiencing anemia during pregnancy were more likely to be stunted or have low birth *** albumin deficiency during pregnancy was strongly associated with the infant being underweight(odds ratio[OR]=2.8,95%confidence interval[95%CI]1.1–7.3).Newborns were more likely to be stunted if their mothers had a history of preterm birth(OR=3.3,95%CI 1.1–10.2).Interpretation:Maternal nutritional status is closely related to infant malnutrition,particularly in preterm *** the understanding of mothers regarding prenatal care,reproductive healthcare,adequate nutritional diet,and multi-micronutrient supplements during pregnancy is therefore important.

Prediction of acute stroke progression by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale

Objective To determine the occurrence of neurological changes during the first 48 hours after acute stroke as it relates to the initial stroke severity assessment. Methods The assessment with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was performed serially for the first 48 hours on 68 consecutive ischemic stroke patients admitted to the Department of Geriatric Cardiology at the khanh Hoa Hospital, Nha trang, Vietnam. Incidence of stroke progression (a ≥ 3-point increase on the NIHSS) was recorded and analysis performed to determine its association with initial stroke severity and other demographic and physiological variables. Deficit resolution by 48 hours, defined as an NIHSS score of 0 or 1, measured the frequency of functional recovery predicted by the initial deficit. Results Overall progression was noted in 28% of events (19/68). Applying Bayes' solution to the observed frequency of worsening, the greatest likelihood of predicting future patient progression occurred with NIHSS score of =7 and >7. Patients with an initial NIHSS score of =7 experienced a 13% (6/47) worsening rate versus those of an initial score of >7 with a 62% (13/21) worsening rate (P7 returned to a normal examination within this period (χ2, P<0.05). Conclusions This study suggests that the early clinical course of neurological deficit after acute stroke be dependent on the initial stroke severity and that a dichotomy in early outcome exist surrounding an initial NIHSS score of 7. These findings may have significant implications for the design and patient stratification in treatment protocols with respect to primary clinical outcome.(J Geriatr Cardiol 2007;4:225-228.)

Identifying nursing research priorities in Vietnam: a modified Delphi study

Objective: There is no single study that has examined nursing research priorities in Vietnam. This study aimed to gain consensus from experts on the nursing research priorities in ***: A three-round modified Delphi study was used in this study. A focus group discussion among experts was conducted in round I to identify the nursing research priorities(n=23). Data in round I were analyzed using content analysis. In round Ⅱ, participants were invited to rate the importance of each nursing priority topic in a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire, which had a 74%(n=17) response rate. In round Ⅲ, the questionnaire was returned to the experts(n=17) until consensus was reached. Data from round Ⅱ and round Ⅲ were analyzed to produce mean score and final ***: The top 12 research priority lists were identified, which included subthemes and areas of possible investigations. All priorities were classified into three groups in the rank order, namely:(i) nursing management and leadership, which included(1) nursing care quality,(2) management and leadership of nurse managers,(3) nursing image,(4) professional nurse competency, and(5) human resource management;(ii) nursing education, which included(1) knowledge-specific domain,(2) the linkage between education and practice, and(3) nurse teacher workforce;and(iii) nursing service, which included(1) adult nursing concern,(2) patient safety,(3) public health nursing concern, and(4) quality of life of patients and ***: Consensus among experts was achiever, and the findings are considered as the basis of resources to the most essential research needs in Vietnam.

The use of high-power lights during night-time purse seining is common in ***,metal halide(MH)lamps are used in the commercial fishery to attract fish,however these lights require more energy,have a shorter lifespan,and lower chromatic performance than light emitting diode(LED)*** study examined catch efficiency and fuel consumption when using LED lamps in combination with reduced numbers of MH lamps(10.24 kW),compared to conventional lighting(28.6 kW),used during purse seining off the coast of Ninh Thuan province,*** economic performance associated with using LED lamps in this fishery was also *** found no significant differences in catch rates between the different light treatments,however fuel consumption was significantly *** consumption per nightly trip using LED with MH lamps was 70.8 l(11.1 l/h)compared to114 l(17.45 l/hr)using MH lamps alone,an estimated 37.9%reduction in fuel *** investment in LED lamps by a fishing enterprise will require additional initial costs,however our analysis revealed the financial break-event point can be reached after approximately 101 nightly trips when the fuel price is at the 2015 level of USD$0.74 per *** enterprises can increase their profitability,and reduce CO2 emissions,by using LED lamps in the Vietnamese purse seine fishery.
