Informal Caregiving and Disaster Risk Reduction:A Scoping Review

Informal caregivers are a population currently in the shadows of disaster risk reduction(DRR),and yet essential to the provision of healthcare *** scoping review explored the literature to understand issues related to informal caregiving and promising practices to support resilience for *** guidelines for scoping review as outlined by Tricco et al.(2016),relevant publications were identified from five major databases—Medline,Embase,PubMed,Web of Science,and *** studies referenced informal caregiving and disasters for a variety of population groups including children,people with disabilities or chronic illnesses,and older *** were excluded if they discussed formal caregiving services(for example,nursing),lacked relevance to disasters,or had insufficient discussion of informal ***,21 articles met the inclusion criteria and were fully *** themes were identified:(1)the need for education and training in DRR;(2)stressors around medication and supply issues;(3)factors affecting the decision-making process in a disaster;(4)barriers leading to disaster-related problems;and(5)factors promoting *** areas of strategic action and knowledge gaps are *** informal caregivers do not feel adequately prepared for *** the important role of informal caregivers in healthcare provision,preparedness strategies are essential to support community resilience for those requiring personal care *** understanding and mobilizing assets to support the resilience of informal caregivers,we also support the resilience of the greater healthcare system and the community,in disaster contexts.

Improved resolution of mixed STR profiles using a fully automated differential cell lysis/DNA extraction method

Sexual assault evidence often contains sperm cells,which are typically separated from nonsperm cells using manual differential lysis *** goal of this study was to evaluate the automated QIAGEN QIAcube for this purpose and to compare it to manual QIAGEN and manual organic differential methods using DNA yields and STR profile data for *** yields were determined by qPCR,followed by multiplex STR amplification,CE analysis,and mixture *** automated method was capable of effective cell separation,producing DNA yields sufficient for STR ***,sperm fraction human:male DNA ratios from the QIAcube samples were consistently closer to the desired 1:1 and STR profiles were less likely to result in mixtures,with 6–8fewer female alleles detected(median 1.5 alleles).Ultimately,using the QIAcube for automated differential processing of semen-containing mixtures reduces the need for downstream mixture interpretation and improves STR profile quality with substantially less hands-on time.

Kinetics of the oxidative Dehydrogenation of Isobutane over Cr_2o_3/La_2(Co_3)_3

The oxidative dehydrogenation (oDH) of isobutane over Cr_2o_3/La_2(Co_3)_3 has been investigated in a low-pressure Knudsen cell reactor, under conditions where the kinetics of the primary reaction steps can be accurately determined. By heating the catalyst at a constant rate from 150-300℃, temperature fluctuations due to non-equilibrium adsorption are minimized. The evolved gas profiles show that oDH to isobutene and water is a primary reaction pathway, while carbon dioxide, which forms from the catalyst during reaction, is the only other product. This Co2 evolution may enhance the activity of the catalyst. Isobutene formation proceeds with the participation of lattice oxygen from the Cr2o3/La2(Co3)3 catalyst. The intrinsic Arrhenius rate constant for the oDH of isobutane isk(s-1) = 1011.5±2.2exp{-((55±5) -ΔHads kJmol-1)/RT}The small pre-exponential factor is expected for a concerted mechanism and for such a catalyst with a small surface area and limited porosity.

Effects of storage time on DNA profiling success from archived latent fingerprint samples using an optimised workflow

Due to recent improvements in forensic DNA testing kit sensitivity,there has been an increased demand in the criminal justice community to revisit past convictions or cold *** of these cases have little biological evidence other than touch DNA in the form of archived latent fingerprint lift *** this study,a previously developed optimised workflow for this sample type was tested on aged fingerprints to determine if improved short tandem repeat(STR)profiles could be ***-year-old samples processed with the optimised workflow produced an average of approximately five more STR alleles per profile over the traditional *** optimised workflow also produced detectable alleles in samples aged out to 28 *** the methods tested,the optimised workflow resulted in the most informative profiles from evidence samples more representative of the forensic *** workflow is recommended for use with archived latent fingerprint samples,regardless of the archival time.

AIM: To investigate pathological factors related to long term patient survival post surgical management of gas-tric adenocarcinoma in a Caribbean ***: This is a retrospective, observational study of all patients treated surgically for gastric adenocarci-noma from January 1st 2000 to December 31 st 2010 at The University Hospital of the West Indies, an urban Jamaican hospital. Pathological reports of all gastrecto-my specimens post gastric cancer resection during the specified interval were accessed. Patients with a final diagnosis other than adenocarcinoma, as well as pa-tients having undergone surgery at an external institu-tion were excluded. The clinical records of the selected cohort were reviewed. The following variables were analysed; patient gender, patient age, the number of gastrectomies previous performed by the lead surgeon, the gross anatomical location and appearance of the tumour, the histological appearance of the tumour, infil-tration of the tumour into stomach wall and surround-ing structures, presence of Helicobacter pylori and the presence of gastritis. Patient status as dead vs alive was documented for the end of the interval. The effect of the aforementioned factors on patient survival were analysed using Logrank tests, Cox regression models, Ranksum tests, Kruskal-Wallis tests and Kaplan-Meier ***: A total of 79 patients, 36 males and 43 fe-males, were included. Their median age was 67 years(range 36-86 years). Median survival time from surgery was 70 mo with 40.5% of patients dying before the termination date of the study. Tumours ranged from 0.8 cm in size to encompassing the entire stomach speci-men, with a median tumour size of 6 cm. The median number of nodes removed at surgery was 8 with a maximum of 28. The median number of positive lymph nodes found was 2, with a range of 0 to 22. Patients' median survival time was approximately 70 mo, with 40.5% of the patients in this cohort dying before the terminal date. An

背景尽管普瑞巴林能有效治疗神经病理性疼痛，但是否能有效控制手术后疼痛仍证据不足。我们的研究目的是调查分析普瑞巴林对发生急性内脏痛的日间手术患者的镇痛效果。假设是普瑞巴林和安慰剂的镇痛效果差异无显著性。方法对90例行子宫手术的妇科小手术妇女进行随机双盲平行安慰剂对照试验。患者在手术前约1小时口服普瑞巴林100mg（PG组）或安慰剂（C组）。观察结果是患者在恢复室和手术后24小时的疼痛评分。结果两组患者在恢复室的疼痛评分（PG组的中位数、四分位间距分别为16和0～36；C组中位数、四分位间距分别为10和6．5—36，P=0．80）和此后所经历的疼痛差异无显著性；两组患者恢复室内芬太尼用量（PG组为42％，C组为27％，P=0．12）或手术后24小时恢复质量（PG组和c组的中位数、四分位间距分别为17、17—18小时和18、16．5～18，P=o．75）差异也无显著性。出院后轻度头晕、视觉障碍和行走困难的发生率普瑞巴林组明显高于安慰剂组。结论只进行单纯子宫操作的妇科小手术患者，手术前服用单次剂量普瑞巴林100mg不能减轻其手术后急性疼痛以及改善其恢复质量。
