Parasites Pathogens and Prevalence of the Green Pigeon (Treron calvus, TEMMINCK, 1811) in the South-East of Côte d’Ivoire: Histopathological Assessment

Today, the green pigeon (Treron calvus, TEMMINCK, 1811) holds an in-creasingly important place in the dietary habits of the populations of south-east of C?te d’Ivoire, especially those of Grand-Bassam. To provide food security to these customers a study was carried out. Objective: The current study is to identify the different protozoa and fungus that could po-tentially infect the green pigeon’s gut. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out on protozoa and digestive fungus in this species of pigeon in the south-east of C?te d’Ivoire. It has been carried out from November 2020 to February 2021. A total of sixty freshly dead pigeons, including 10 males and 50 females, have been bought in Grand-Bassam. After autopsy, the gut of each animal was preserved in formalin (10%) for a subsequent histopatho-logical examination. Results: The analysis of the results revealed the fol-lowing pathogen genus: Cryptosporidium spp, Histomonas spp, Toxoplasma gondii and Trichomonas spp for protozoa. Cryptococcus neoformans for fungus. The calculation of prevalence gave the following values: 63% [20;40] for protozoa and 37% [10;40] for fungus. Conclusion: The study showed that the intestine of the green pigeon of the Grand-Bassam region is infested by a range of pathogens. Namely: Cryptosporidium spp, Histomonas spp, Toxoplasma gondii, Trichonomas spp and Cryptococcus neoformans. Cryptococcus neoformans was the most common pathogen encountered in this study. Among these pathogens, some like Cryptococcus neoformans and Toxoplasma gondii are zoonosis. Thus, the present study deserves further investigation to know more about the nature of human infection in C?te d’Ivoire. Furthermore, given the diversity of digestive pathogens including zoonosis one, a reasonable recommendation to consumers would be stop eating the intestines.

Background: Parasitic diseases are threat to the development of Ivorian Pig industry. Zoonotic diseases such as Echinococcosis have a significant impact on animal health and production. Little is known about Echinococcosis in Cô te d’Ivoire. Aim: For these reasons, a cross section study was conducted at SIVAC in Yopougon, on pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus), in order to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors of Echinococcosis. Method: Paraclinical examinations of pig organs (kidneys, lungs, and liver) were conducted from 5th September to 30th December 2019 in order to report infection with this parasite. Results: Out of the 2425 slaughtered pigs, 63 of them were Echi-nococcosis positive, resulting in overall infection prevalence of 2.6% (95% CI: 1.9% - 3.22%). The kidneys (2.35%) were most infected, followed by lungs (0.21%), and liver (0.04%). Recommendations: A more in-depth study on the molecular epidemiology of Echinococcosis in the different regions of Cô te d’Ivoire is underway. Also, capacity building of community livestock actors (Veterinarians, health inspectors, breeders and butchers) and sensitization of the population on this disease is necessary in order to improve its diagnosis at the abattoir level and to set up strategies to combat it.

Management of High Complicated Genital Infections at the Aristide De Le Dantec Hospital: Apropos of Six Cases

Objective: To study the epidemiology, the diagnostic elements and the prognosis after laparotomy surgery, of complicated upper genital infections. Patients and method: This is a retrospective study of six cases of complicated upper genital infections collected over a period of 20 months in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of the Aristide Hospital Center of LEDANTEC. Results: The average age of the patients was 37.67, in two patients;a hysterosalpingography had been performed less than seven days before the start of the symptoms, a notion of multiple sexual partners was noted in two patients. All patients presented with acute abdominal-pelvic pain associated with vomiting in three patients. An infectious syndrome was found in two patients, adnexal pain caused in four patients and signs of peritoneal irritation (guarding and umbilical tenderness) in three patients. Para-clinically, a biological inflammatory syndrome was found in all patients, including an elevation of C-reactive protein in all patients and hyperleukocytosis in four patients and an elevation of CA 125 in two patients. The cytobacteriological examination of the pus taken intraoperatively was positive in two patients, the isolated germs were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter cloacae. Pelvic ultrasound was performed in all patients and revealed a cystic adnexal mass in five cases, a pyosalpinx and peritoneal effusion in two cases. Abdominal & pelvic computed tomography was performed in four patients and revealed a lateral-uterine adnexal mass in two cases, pyosalpinx in two cases, uretero-hydronephrosis and peritoneal effusion in one case. An exploratory laparotomy was performed in each patient and confirmed the diagnosis of tuboovarian abscess, the presence of pelvic adhesion and purulent effusion in four patients, the presence of false membranes in two patients, pyometra and isolated bilateral pyosaplinx were found in one patient. Intrauterine Device in the Immediate Postpartum:Study Comparing Insertion after Cesarean Section and Vaginal Delivery

Objective To compare the safety, side effects and failure rates of contraception copper intrauterine device (IUDs) in the immediate postpartum period after a vaginal delivery and during a cesarean section. Patients and methods This was a descriptive and analytical study, conducted in Gynecology and Obstetrics departments hospital Pikine and Abass Ndao hospitals. It compared two groups of women with IUDs in the immediate postpartum period after a vaginal delivery and during cesarean section. Our sample consisted of 215 patients. We had divided them into two groups: group 1 consisted of 115 patients who delivered by cesarean section;Group 2 consisted of 100 patients who delivered vaginally and whom the insertion was made in post placental or within 48 hours after birth. The variables studied were the sociodémographic characteristics, characteristics of pregnancy and childbirth, insertion procedures, follow up with the assessment of side effects and complications. Results and comments The socio-demographic characteristics were superimposed in both groups. Nine patients were lost to follow up, 4 in group 1 and 5 in group 2. The complaints such as pain (3.7% for Group 1 against 2.6% for group 2), vaginal bleeding (2.1% for group 2, and 1.8% for group 1) were rarely reported and stackable in both groups. After 6 months of follow up, the menses was observed in 42.8% of group 2 against 43.1% of group 1. The abnormal menstrual flow, evaluated by the Higham score, was noted in 29.6% of group 2 and 25% of group 1, and was dominated by excessive bleeding. They motivated IUD removal in two patients. A significant difference was found in the perception of IUD strings, it was effective in 95.4% of patients in group 2 against 50.5% for group 1. The evictions were 9 at 3-month follow-up 7 related group 2 and 2 for Group 1. It was partial (isthmic IUD) and total expulsion. The Gounti Yéna valley, the subject of this study, is a tributary of the Niger River, it is the main watercourse that divides the left bank of the city of Niamey into two unequal parts. The surface area of its watershed is estimated at about 62 Km2. The objective of the present study is on the one hand to evaluate the current state of the physico-chemical and bacteriological quality of the water of Gounti Yéna basin, and on the other hand to define the risks of water pollution and its origin in the face of the phenomenon of rising water table of this basin. In order to carry out this work, we proceeded to a study of the evolution of the physicochemical and bacteriological parameters of the water of the basin of Gounti Yéna during the period going from November 2020 to October 2021, at the level of four points of sampling chosen from the upstream to the downstream of the basin. The results obtained showed that the physico-chemical quality of the water in Gounti Yéna basin is influenced by the lithology of the watershed, climatic factors (rainfall and temperature) and anthropic actions. This study also highlighted the presence of fecal contamination in the water of the Gounti Yéna basin, with a greater degree of emphasis during the rainy season. This contamination remains a concern and may constitute a health risk.

In order to properly carry out this work, we carried out a study of the evolution of the physicochemical and bacteriological parameters of the water of the Gounti Yéna basin during the period from November 2020 to October 2021, at three sampling points chosen from upstream to downstream of the basin then entomological surveys and among the health centers of the capital. The results obtained showed that the physico-chemical quality of water in the Gounti Yéna basin is influenced by climatic factors (precipitation and temperature) and anthropogenic actions. This study also highlighted the presence of faecal contamination in the water of the Gounti Yéna basin with a greater degree during the rainy season. This contamination remains worrying and constitutes a health risk causing waterborne diseases. The stagnation of the various bodies of water is also a favorable place for the development and spread of vector-borne diseases.

Modern Postpartum Contraception: The Experience of Nabil Choucair Health Center, Dakar (Senegal)

Introduction: In Senegal, according to the 2017 Demographic Health Survey, about 22% of married women have an unmet need for family planning. Globally, 61% of women do not have access to postpartum family planning. Material and Method: This is a prospective, descriptive and analytical study from March 05, 2017 to January 31, 2018. The interrogation was done in the hospital ward with filling in the data collection form. The data collected was first coded and then entered, using the sphinx software. The data analysis was done with Epi info version 7 software and included a descriptive and analytical component. Results: The average age of the patients was 26 years with extremes of 15 and 48 years. Average gestation was 2.3 with extremes of 1 and 8 pregnancies. More than half of the women (64.7%) had delivered by caesarean in an emergency setting. More than half of the women (66.7%) had chosen the hormonal contraceptive method within 48 hours of delivery and the implant was the type of contraceptive prescribed in almost half of the cases (49.3%). Analysis of Bushfires Spatial and Temporal Variability in Guinea

Guinea is confronted to the increasing risks of bushfires that destroy thousands of hectares of vegetation cover every year. Very little research is devoted to the variability of those fires, which makes it a serious threat to both wildlife and human habitats. The current study investigates the spatial and temporal distribution of bushfires in the period from 2003 to 2016. The method used is the geospatial technology: we first filter pixels corresponding with active light supplied by MODIS images (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) and estimate their densities following the square meshing procedure. Burned areas are deducted from the estimated pixel densities by calculations. The results highlight great occurrence of fires: 4 to 48 pixels of active fire per year and per 100 km2 depending on the location;2 to 5 million hectares per year of burned areas (20,000 to 50,000 sqkm). Almost 8 to 24% the size of the whole country. The prefectures of Beyla, Siguiri, Kouroussa, Kankan, Dinguiraye, Mali and Tougué are the most exposed areas. Every year, fire activities are observed as from October and between May and June. They are however mitigated according to the regions (or the geographical domains). Summits of bushfires activities are generally reached between December and January.

Support Epidemiology and Prognosis of Premature Rupture of Membranes in Pikine National Hospital Center

Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) complicates 3% of preterm pregnancies and occurs in 60% to 80% of term pregnancies. However, its management remains largely controversial. The objective of this study was to establish the epidemiological profile, to study the management and the prognosis of Premature rupture of membranes (PROM) in our practice. Patients and methods: It was a prospective, descriptive and analytical study from May 1st 2016 to January 31st 2017 at the Pikine National Hospital Center. The target population consisted of all patients received at the hospital with premature rupture of membranes and who had given birth in the structure. The variables studied were: marital status, mode and reason for admission;risk factors;antecedents;prenatal care;the clinical and paraclinical examinations;support and immediate maternal and fetal neonatal complications. Results and comments: The mean maternal age was 27.34 years and the majority of women were aged between 18 and 39 years (94.4%). Fifty-one point three percent of patients were primiparous, large multiparous represented only 2.5%. The majority of patients (385 patients or 66.9%) had consulted in the first 12 hours following the onset of fluid flow. For 20.1% of them this flow was associated with uterine contractions. Hidden risk factors were dominated by the twin pregnancy. The blood count showed that 38.8% of patients had leukocytosis and CRP was positive in 18.3% of patients. An ampicillin-based antibiotics was established in 42.6% of cases, corticosteroid therapy in 5.2% and 1% in tocolysis. An expectation was adopted in 65.7% of cases, induction of labor in 7.3% and a cesarean section immediately in 27% of cases. In total, 65.7% of patients had vaginal delivery and 34.3% cesarean. The perinatal mortality rate was 3.6% or 22 newborns on 610. Two cases of endometritis were observed and one case of immediate postpartum hemorrhage. No maternal deaths were recorded. Background: Molar pregnancy is a rare condition;its ectopic form is even rarer occurring in 1.5 per 1,000,000 pregnancies. Aim: We report a case of ectopic molar pregnancy located in the fallopian tube and draw attention to the importance of systematic histological examination in any ectopic pregnancy. Case report: A 32-year-old primigravida woman presented with metrorrhagia in a context of about 2 months of amenorrhea. An ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed by ultrasonography.
