A novel metal matrix composites(MMC)with Mg matrix reinforced with natural filler in the form of Didymosphenia geminata frustules(algae with distinctive siliceous shells)are presented in this *** plasma sintering(ppS)was used to manufacture Mg-based composites with 1,5 and 10 vol.%ceramic *** a reference,pure Mg was *** results show that the addition of 1 vol.%Didymosphenia geminata frustules to the Mg matrix increases its corrosion resistance by supporting passivation reactions,and do not affect the morphology of L929 *** of 5 vol.%the filler does not cause cytotoxic effects,but it supports microgalvanic reactions leading to the greater corrosion *** content than 5 vol.%the filler causes significant microgalvanic corrosion,as well as increases cytotoxicity due to the greater micro-galvanic effect of the composites containing 10 and 15 vol.%*** results of contact angle measurements show the hydrophilic character of the investigated materials,with slightly increase in numerical values with addition of amount of ceramic *** addition of Didymosphenia geminata frustules causes changes in a thermo-elastic properties such as mean apparent value of coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)and thermal conductivity(λ).The addition of siliceous reinforcement resulted in a linear decrease of CTE and reduction in thermal conductivity over the entire temperature *** the increasing addition of Didymosphenia geminata frustules,an increase in strength with a decrease in compressive strain is *** all composites an increase in microhardness was *** results clearly indicate that filler in the form of Didymosphenia geminata frustules may significantly change the most important properties of pure Mg,indicating its wide potential in the application of Mg-based composites with a special focus on biomedical use.

The retina plays a fundamental role in the process of vision,serving as the primary interface between external visual stimuli and the central nervous *** the retina is exposed to a variety of environmental stresses and deleterious insults,it is susceptible to a spectrum of pathological conditions that can detrimentally affect *** often leads to irreversible vision loss due to the injury of specific cell *** instance,inherited retinal degeneration and age-related macular degeneration can lead to the death of photoreceptors,while conditions like glaucoma and optic nerve injury can result in the loss of ganglion *** precise pathological mechanisms driving retinal degeneration remain largely elusive,although research utilizing mouse models suggests that disruptions in intracellular signal transduction pathways may play a pivotal *** pathways within the retina orchestrate various aspects of retinal physiology,including phototransduction,synaptic transmission,and neuronal survival.

Experimental and Numerical Study on Determination of Forces During Cold Rolling of Shafts

The influence of stress and friction conditions on material flow during longitudinal cold rolling of a shaft was investigated. The longitudinal cold rolling method makes it possible to form and finish-up machine parts in the rolling process, which is associated with strengthening of the material due to cold work. The experiments were car- ried out in order to determine the pressure force at the stage of squeezing on shafts formed by longitudinal cold roll- ing and made of constructional unalloyed steels S235JR and C45. The experimental results were compared with nu merieal simulation results obtained by using the MSC. Marc 2010 based on finite element method （FEM）. The influ- ence of deformation degree on structural changes and the increase of material strength are shown.

Application of a Lumped Multi-Section Model for Analyzing the Thermal performance of a Small-Scale Biomass Boiler

The stationary lumped-cell model was developed and used to simulate the thermal characteristics of domestic biomass boiler with helically coiled tube heat exchanger(HCHE).The device serves as the heat source for ORC(Organic Rankine Cycle)unit and utilizes the thermal oil as the medium transferring the heat to the *** of studies available in the literature refer to the CFD simulations for water flow in tube coils or in one-or two-turn coil *** investigations are basically focused on the determination of Nusselt *** proposed herein model aims at determining the thermal performance of flue gas-oil HCHE while providing low CpU *** demonstrate the model possibilities,it was used to predict the flue gas temperatures at the inlet and outlet from the heat exchange zone,based on measurement data regarding the outlet temperature of thermal *** test series were *** computation results appeared to be in satisfactory agreement with experimental results(the discrepancies do not exceed 12%).The investigations showed that the used approach may be recommended as an alternative method that allows for fast prediction of thermal parameters for units of complex geometries,in particular the multi-coil heat exchangers.

We present CMTJ—a simulation package for large-scale macrospin analysis of multilayer spintronics *** from conventional simulations,such as magnetoresistance and magnetisation hysteresis loops,CMTJ implements a mathematical model of dynamic experimental techniques commonly used for spintronics devices characterisation,for instance:spin diode ferromagnetic resonance,pulse-induced microwave magnetometry,or harmonic Hall voltage *** find that macrospin simulations offer a satisfactory level of agreement,demonstrated by a variety of *** a unified simulation package,CMTJ aims to accelerate wide-range parameter search in the process of optimising spintronics devices.

A fire alarm system(FAS)is a system comprising signalling-alarm devices,which automatically detect and transmit information about fire,but also receivers of fire alarms and receivers for damage *** alarm systems function in different environmental *** operation they should be in state of *** is determined by the reliability of the assembled units and rational management of the operation *** a reliability and operational analysis of fire alarm systems as a whole is *** article presents an authorial model and an operational and reliability analysis of FAS,which is exploited in a transport *** also demonstrates relationships occurring in the analysed system,where to an addressable fire alarm central unit with detection loops and control-monitoring loops alarm device lines(with monitored relay outputs for actuation of alarm-signalling devices)were *** and analysis of results for representative FAS,which were exploited in similar environmental conditions,were conducted in order to determine operational and reliability parameters of the investigated *** computer simulation was run during the time t=1 year of safety system *** led to the calculation of the probability value of the analysed FAS staying in the examined operational states.

Fabrication and comprehensive evaluation of Zr-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites for biomedical applications

The aim of this study is to fabricate Zr-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites(BMG-MCs)for biomedical usage and subject them to a comprehensive and farreaching analysis with respect to their mechanical properties,biocorrosion resistance,biocompatibility,and interactions with biofilms that all may arise from their chemical compositions and unusual disordered internal *** this study,we fabricate Zr_(40)Ti_(15)Cu_(10)Ni_(10)Be_(25),Zr_(50)Ti_(15)Cu_(10)Ni_(10)Be_(25),and Zr40Ti15Cu10Ni5Si5Be25 alloys and confirm their glassy matrix nature through differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)*** mechanical properties,assessed via nanoindentation,demonstrate the high hardness,strength,and elasticity of the produced *** resistance is investigated in simulated body fluid,with Zr-based BMG-MCs exhibiting superior performance compared to conventional biomedical materials,including 316L stainless steel and Ti6Al4V *** is assessed using human fetal osteoblastic cell line hFOB 1.19,revealing low levels of *** study also examines the potential for biofilm formation,a critical factor in the success of biomedical implantation,where bacterial infection is a major *** findings suggest,as never reported before,that Zr-based BMG-MCs,with their unique composite glassy structure and excellent physicochemical properties,are promising candidates for various biomedical applications,potentially offering improved performance over traditional metallic biomaterials.

Luminescent properties of dysprosium(III) ions in LaAlO_3 nanocrystallites

The absorption and emission spectra as well as decay time profile of Dy^3＋ ions in LaAlO3 nanocrystals were analyzed. The crystal structure of LaAlO3 was confirmed from XRD measurement. The emission peaks from blue to red came from main emitting level of dysprosium ^4F9/2 to the ground and other excited levels of Dy^3＋ ions. Cross relaxation process led to non-radiative quenching of luminescence, so that the lifetime of the ^4F9/2 energy level ions decreased with increasing amount of doped Dy^3＋ ions. The cross relaxation transfer rates were experimentally determined as a fimction of Dy^3＋ concentration.
