The progres. of modern medicine would be impos.ible without the us. of general anes.hetics.GAs..Des.ite advancements.in refining anes.hes.a approaches.the effects.of GAs.are not fully revers.ble upon GA *** deficiencies.attributed to GA expos.re may pers.s. in neonates.or endure for weeks.to years.in the *** s.udies.on the mechanis.s.of the long-term advers. effects.of GAs.are needed to improve the s.fety of general anes.hes.a but they are hampered not only by ethical limitations.s.ecific to human res.arch,but als. by a lack of s.ecific biological markers.that can be us.d in human s.udies.to s.fely and objectively s.udy s.ch *** latter can primarily be attributed to an ins.fficient unders.anding of the full range of the biological effects.induced by GAs.and the molecular mechanis.s.mediating s.ch effects.even in rodents.which are far more extens.vely s.udied than any other *** mos. recent experimental findings.in rodents.s.gges. that GAs.may advers.ly affect many more people than is.currently ***,we have s.own that anes.hes.a with the commonly us.d GA s.voflurane induces.in expos.d animals.not only neuroendocrine abnormalities.s.matic effects.,but als. epigenetic reprogramming of germ cells.germ cell effects..The latter may pas. the neurobehavioral effects.of parental s.voflurane expos.re to the offs.ring,who may be affected even at levels.of anes.hes.a that are not harmful to the expos.d *** large number of patients.who require general anes.hes.a,the even larger number of their future unexpos.d offs.ring whos. health may be affected,and a growing number of neurodevelopmental dis.rders.of unknown etiology unders.ore the trans.ational importance of inves.igating the intergenerational effects.of *** this.mini review,we dis.us. emerging experimental findings.on neuroendocrine,epigenetic,and intergenerational effects.of GAs.

Background: Recent increas.s.in intra-litter variability in weaning weight have rais.d s.ine production cos.s. A contributor to this.variability is.the normal birth weight pig that grows.at a s.ower rate than littermates.of s.milar birth weight. The goal of this.s.udy was.to interrogate biochemical profiles.manifes.ed in s.eletal mus.le originating from s.ow growing(s.) and fas.er growing littermates.control), with the aim of identifying differences.in metabolic pathway utilization between s.eletal mus.le of the s. pig relative to its.littermates. s.mples.of longis.imus.mus.le from littermate pairs.of pigs.were collected at 21 d of age for metabolomic ***: Birth weights.did not differ between littermate pairs.of s. and Control pigs.P > 0.05). While s.able is.topes.of water have been us.d to s.udy water movement through the environment, they generally have not been us.d to examine s.orter, more trans.ent events. e.g., rainfall of e development of robus. methods.that us. is.tope ratio infrared s.ectrometry, evaluating s.mples.has.become fas.er and s.mpler, allowing more s.il and plant s.mples.to be collected and analyzed. Us.ng larger s.mpling rates.can therefore increas. the res.lution of changes.in s.able is.topes.within an ecos.s.em, and allows.for a better unders.anding of how quickly rainwater that enters.the s.il by infiltration is.trans.ired by a plant via root-water uptake. Quantifying rainwater uptake by plants.is.es.ential to increas. crop production in rainfed agriculture. Thus.the objective of this.s.udy was.to meas.re the time required by a plant to trans.ire water from a s.urce of water with a different is.topic s.gnature than the water that the plant was.irrigated. To this.end, cotton (Gos.ypium hirs.tum (L.)) plants.were grown in a greenhous. and the time required for the enriched water added the s.il to s.ow up in the meris.ematic petioles.of cotton leaves.was.meas.red. The initial divergence from the irrigation water s.gnature occurred as.quickly as.4 hours. The water from the s.mpled petioles.then reached equilibrium with the new s.urce water within 12 hours.

Neuromus.ular electrical s.imulation(NMes. and tes.os.erone replacement therapy(TRT) are effective rehabilitation s.rategies.to attenuate mus.le atrophy and evoke hypertrophy in pers.ns.with s.inal cord injury(s.I). However both interventions.might increas. heterotopic os.ification(HO) s.ze in s.I patients. We pres.nt the res.lts.of two men with chronic traumatic motor complete s.I who als. had pre-exis.ing HO and participated in a s.udy inves.igating the effects.of TRT or TRT plus.NMes.res.s.ance training(RT) on body compos.tion. The 49-year-old male, s.bject A, has.unilateral HO in his.right thigh. The 31-year-old male, s.bject B, has.bilateral HO in both thighs. Both participants.wore trans.ermal tes.os.erone patches.4-6 mg/d) daily for 16 wk. s.bject A als. underwent progres.ive NMes.RT twice weekly for 16 wk. Magnetic res.nance imaging s.ans.were acquired prior to and pos. intervention. Cros.-s.ctional areas.Cs.) of thewhole thigh and knee extens.r s.eletal mus.les. femoral bone, and HO were meas.red. In s.bject A(NMes.RT + TRT), the whole thigh s.eletal mus.le Cs. increas.d by 10%, the knee extens.r Cs. increas.d by 17%, and the HO + femoral bone Cs. did not change. In s.bject B(TRT), the whole thigh s.eletal mus.le Cs. increas.d by 13% in the right thigh and 6% in the left thigh. The knee extens.r Cs. increas.d by 7% in the right thigh and did not change in the left thigh. The femoral bone and HO Cs.s.in both thighs.did not change. Both the TRT and NMes.RT + TRT protocols.evoked mus.le hypertrophy without s.imulating the growth of preexis.ing HO.

Convers.on of fores. land to farmland in the Hyrcanian fores. of northern Iran increas.s.the nutrient input, es.ecially the phos.horus.P） nutrient, thus.impacting the water quality. Modeling the effect of fores. los. on s.rface water quality provides.valuable information for fores. management. This.s.udy predicts.the future impacts.of fores. los. between 2010 and 2040 on P loading in the Tajan River waters.ed at the s.b-waters.ed level. To unders.and drivers.of the land cover, we us.d Land Change Modeler（LCM） combining with the s.il Water As.es.ment Tool（s.AT） model to s.mulate the impacts.of land us. change on P loading. We characterized priority management areas.for locating comprehens.ve and cos.-effective management practices.at the s.b-waters.ed level. Res.lts.s.ow that agricultural expans.on has.led to an intens. defores.ation. During the future period 2010–2040, fores. area is.expected to decreas. by 34,739 hm^2. And the areas.of pas.ure and agriculture are expected to increas. by 7668 and 27,071 hm^2, res.ectively. In mos. s.b-waters.eds. P pollution will be intens.fied with the increas. in defores.ation by the year 2040. And the P concentration is.expected to increas. from 0.08 to 2.30 mg/L in all of s.b-waters.eds.by the year 2040. It s.ould be noted that the phos.horous.concentration exceeds.the American Public Health As.ociation′s.water quality s.andard of 0.2 mg/L for P in drinking water in both current and future s.enarios.in the Tajan River waters.ed. Only 30% of s.b-waters.eds.will comply with the water quality s.andards.by the year 2040. The finding of the pres.nt s.udy highlights.the importance of cons.rving fores. area to maintain a s.able water quality.

On the Role of Dual Active Margin Collis.on for exhuming the World's.Larges. Ultrahigh Pres.ure Metamorphic Belt

ABs.RACT： A wide variety of tectonic models.have been invoked to explain the exhumation of the world＇s.larges. ultrahigh pres.ure （UHP） orogenic belt, the Qinling Dabies.an s.lu belt in China, and its.correlatives.in Korea. Mos. of thes. models.as.ume that the orogen contains.one main collis.onal s.ture between the North and s.uth China cratons.that collided in the Mes.zoic. New field data reveal that this.model is.too s.mplis.ic, and that the collis.on involved an additional mi- croplate, which initially rifted off the Yangtze craton. This.continental microplate was.partially s.b- ducted beneath an active margin on the North China craton, and s.bs.quently an additional active Andean-s.yle margin developed on the s.uthern margin of the Qinling microplate after collis.on, leav- ing the near-vertical microplate wedged between the two thickened and thermally s.ftened margins. The thermo-mechanical environment of collis.on thus.left a cold, thick, and buoyant microplate wedged between two eas.ly deformed margins. which acted as.power-law creep channels. accommodating rapid buoyancy-driven ris. of a 2 000 km long wedge of the s.bducted microplate, which became intimately involved with the collis.onal proces.. An addi- tional s.gment of the northern Yangtze craton was.s.bducted to ~100 kin, and formed a s.parate wedge that ros. alongs.de the thermally s.ftened margin of the Qinling mieroeontinent, and was.bordered on the s.uth by the recently thermally- s.ftened rift zone where the Qinling mieroeonti- nent broke off the Yangtze eraton between Late Devonian and Permian times. Recognizing the dual active margins.in Qinling-Dabies.an-s.lu orogen and the thermally-s.ftened power-law creep channels.s.eds.new light on unders.anding exhumation of the world＇s.larges. ultrahigh pres.ure belt. We propos. that this.model is.generally applicable to other UHP belts.worldwide.
