Leaf cutting ants of the genus Atta cultivate fungal gardens,carefully modifying environmental conditions to maintain optimal temperature for fungal *** nerves from Atta are highly temperature sensitive,but the underlying molecular sensor is ***,we utilize Atta texana(Texas leaf cutter ant)to investigate the molecular basis of ant temperature sensation and how it might have evolved as the range expanded northeast across Texas from ancestral populations in *** focus on transient receptor potential(TRP)channel genes,the best characterized temperature sensor proteins in *** texana antennae express 6 of 13 Hymenopteran TRP channel genes and sequences are under a mix of relaxed and intensified *** a behavioral assay,we find *** workers prefer 24℃(range 21−26℃)for fungal *** was no evidence of regulatory evolution across a temperature transect in Texas,but instead Hymenoptera-specific TRPA(HsTRPA)expression highly correlated with ambient *** expressed in vitro,HsTRPA from *** is temperature activated with Q10 values exceeding 100 on initial exposure to temperatures above 33℃.Surprisingly,HsTRPA also appears to be activated by cooling,and therefore to our knowledge,the first non-TRPA1 ortholog to be described with dual heat/cold activation and the first in any invertebrate.

On January 7,2025,01:05:15 UTC （9:05 *** time） southern Tibet was rocked by a mw7.1 earthquake （mw=moment magnitude,USGS） centered（28.639°N 87.361°e） in the Lhasa Block north of the India/eurasia Plate boundary,in a remote area about 180km SW of Xigaze,in Dingri County of Shigatse of the Xizang Autonomous Region （Figure 1）.The China earthquake Networks Center measured the magnitude differently,using surface wave magnitude,ms,at *** of Jan.10,a total of 126 people were confirmed dead,another 188 injured,and about 61 500 people displaced from their *** region is currently being shaken by thousands of aftershocks,which are likely to continue for weeks or *** than 14 000 search and rescue personnel have been deployed to the epicentral region.

evidence for the '8.2 ka cold event' has been provided mostly from the circum-North Atlantic area. However, whether this cold event occurred in other places is a key to understanding its cause. Here, we provide the evidence for the '8.2 ka cold event' from the Guliya ice core in the northwest Tibetan Plateau, and it was found that the peak cooling (-8.3-8.2 ka) in this ice core was about 7.8-10°C, which was larger than the cooling in the North Atlantic region. The primary causes for this episode were diminished solar activity and weakened thermohaline circulation. moreover, another weak cold event, centered about 9.4 ka, was also recorded in the Guliya ice core record. These two cold events were concurrent with the ice-rafting episodes in the North Atlantic during the early Holocene, which implies that the millennial-scale climatic cyclicity might exist in the Tibetan Plateau as well as in the North Atlantic.

This paper deals with the problem of recreating horizontal alignments of existing railway *** main objective is to propose a simple method for automatically obtaining optimized recreated alignments located as close as possible to an existing *** on a previously defined geometric model,two different constrained optimization problems are *** first problem uses only the information provided by a set of points representing the track centerline while the second one also considers additional data about the existing *** proposed methodology consists of a two-stage process in which both problems are solved consecutively using numerical *** main results obtained applying this methodology are presented to show its performance and to prove its practical usefulness:an academic example used to compare with other methods,and a case study of a railway section located in Parga(Spain)in which the geometry of its horizontal alignment is successfully recovered.

An effective warning system for flash floods along the upper River des Peres, a small urban stream in eastern missouri, USA, is based on three enterprise-level, automated rain *** floods in this 25 km~2 basin develop rapidly and are commonly caused by small but intense thunderstorm cells, these rain gauges were necessarily deployed within the watershed, and immediate telemetry and processing of rainfall delivered in 5-minute intervals is required. Available data show that damaging floods in this area occur only 30 min to 3 h following the delivery of 38 mm of rainfall or more in a single hour. Water levels along this stream can rise more than 3 m/h. Since full deployment in Nov. 2021, our system has successfully predicted 3 significant floods with one false positive.
