An ideal fixation system for guided bone(GBR)regeneration in oral surgery must fulfil several criteria that includes the provision of adequate mechanical fixation,complete resorption when no longer needed,complete replacement by bone,as well as be biocompatible and have a good clinical *** the first time,a biodegradable magnesium fixation screw made of the magnesium alloy WZM211 with a MgF2 coating has been designed and tested to fulfill these *** mechanical fixation was shown for the magnesium fixation screw in several benchtop tests that directly compared the magnesium fixation screw with an equivalent polymeric resorbable *** demonstrated slightly superior mechanical properties of the magnesium device in comparison to the polymeric device even after 4 weeks of *** of the magnesium fixation screw was demonstrated in several in vitro and in vivo *** of the magnesium screw was investigated in in vitro and in vivo tests,where it was found that the screw is resorbed slowly and completely after 52 weeks,providing adequate fixation in the early critical healing ***,the magnesium fixation screw demonstrates all of the key properties required for an ideal fixation screw of membranes used in guided bone regeneration(GBR)surgeries.

Semi-classical analysis on H-type groups Dedicated to Professor Jean-Yves Chemin on the Occasion of His 60th Birthday

In this paper, we develop semi-classical analysis on H-type groups. We define semi-classical pseudodifferential operators, prove the boundedness of their action on square integrable functions and develop a symbolic calculus. Then, we define the semi-classical measures of bounded families of square integrable functions which consist of a pair formed by a measure defined on the product of the group and its unitary dual, and by a field of trace class positive operators acting on the Hilbert spaces of the representations. We illustrate the theory by analyzing examples, which show in particular that this semi-classical analysis takes into account the finite-dimensional representations of the group, even though they are negligible with respect to the Plancherel measure.

New replacement names for the preoccupied mite genera Absentia Huang, 2001 and Venilia Kuznetsov, 1979 are proposed (Huangiella nom. nov. and Kuznetsovia nom. nov., respectively.). Fourteen further new replacement names are proposed for additional preoccupied generic names in the Arthropoda. These names are: Vailimia nom. nov., Millidgella nom. nov., and Nolavia nom. nov. in Araneae, Vadumasonium nom. nov. in Hymenoptera, Gridellia nom. nov., Vanstaronia nom. nov. and Veraniella nom. nov. in Coleoptera, Poletaevega nom. nov. in Trilobita, Vandelia nom. nov. in Isopoda, Gandoa nom. nov. and Vanuachela nom. nov. in Decapoda, and Crasquinia nom. nov., Oertlia nom. nov., and Soleaua nom. nov. in Ostracoda. Additionally, one new annelid replacement name, Omodeodrilus nom. nov., is proposed.

Performance of Hydra Probe and MPS-1 Soil Water Sensors in Topsoil Tested in Lab and Field

Soil water sensors are commonly used to monitor water content and matric potential in order to study hydrological processes such as evaporation. Finding a proper sensor is sometimes difficult, especially for measurements in topsoil, where changes of temperature and soil water dynamics occur generally with greater intensity compared to deeper soil layers. We assessed the perfor-mance of Hydra Probe water content sensors and MPS-1 matric potential sensors in topsoil in the laboratory and in the field. A common soil-specific calibration function was determined for the Hydra Probes. Measurement accuracy and sensor-to-sensor variation were within the manufacturer specification of ±0.03 m3·m-3. Hydra Probes can operate from dry to saturated conditions. Sensor-specific calibrations from a previous study were used to reduce sensor-to-sensor variation of MPS-1. Measurement accuracy can be expressed by a mean relative error of 10%. According to the manufacturer, the application range of matric potential readings is from -10 kPa to -500 kPa. MPS-1 delivered also values beyond this range, but they were not reliable. Sensor electronics of the MPS-1 were sensitive to ambient temperature changes. Beyond instrument effects, field measurements showed substantial temperature-driven fluctuations of soil water content and matric potential, which complicated data interpretation.

The mode of action of electrical high frequency stimulation

This article analyses, on the basis of the pathophysiological grounds of various syndromes treated with deep brain stimulation, whether there is a collective explanation of the mode of action of the applied regional stimulations with high frequencies (HFS). This proposed hypothesis assumes that HFS selectively releases GABA. The selective GABA re- lease can explain the efficacy and the side effects of HFS in the various target regions according to the maxim of the philosopher William of Ockham that the simplest explanation is probably the correct explanation.

A Rapid Extraction Procedure for the Determination of Strontium-90 in Water Samples

A beta spectrometric method for the rapid determination of strontium-90 （90Sr） in water samples was developed and tested. 90Sr is extracted directly from the water samples by means of a scintillator cocktail, containing the crown ether dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 as an extracting agent （STRONEX）. Minimal clean-up is necessary when other beta nuclides are present, such as barium-140. These nuclides are eliminated by a barium chromate scavenge, prior to the extraction step. The method presented here allows for the investigation of at least 12 water samples a day and is therefore a suitable tool for emergency analysis.

Aim: This study aimed to decipher the molecular mechanism underlying the synergistic effect of inhibitors of the mevalonate-cholesterol pathway (i.e., statins) and aminopeptidase inhibitors (APis) on APi-sensitive and -resistant acute myeloid leukemia (AML) ***: U937 cells and their sublines with low and high levels of acquired resistance to (6S)-[(R)-2-((S)-Hydroxy-hydroxycarbamoyl-methoxy-methyl)-4-methyl-pentanoylamino]-3,3 dimethyl-butyric acid cyclopentyl ester (CHR2863), an APi prodrug, served as main AML cell line models. Drug combination effects were assessed with CHR2863 and in vitro non-toxic concentrations of various statins upon cell growth inhibition, cell cycle effects, and apoptosis induction. Mechanistic studies involved analysis of Rheb prenylation required for mTOR ***: A strong synergy of CHR2863 with the statins simvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, and pravastatin was demonstrated in U937 cells and two CHR2863-resistant sublines. This potent synergy between simvastatin and CHR2863 was also observed with a series of other human AML cell lines (e.g., THP1, MV4-11, and KG1), but not with acute lymphocytic leukemia or multiple solid tumor cell lines. This synergistic activity was: (i) specific for APis (e.g., CHR2863 and Bestatin), rather than for other cytotoxic agents;and (ii) corroborated by enhanced induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest which increased the sub-G1 fraction. Consistently, statin potentiation of CHR2863 activity was abrogated by co-administration of mevalonate and/or farnesyl pyrophosphate, suggesting the involvement of protein prenylation;this was experimentally confirmed by impaired Rheb prenylation by ***: These novel findings suggest that the combined inhibitory effect of impaired Rheb prenylation and CHR2863-dependent mTOR inhibition instigates a potent synergistic inhibition of statins and APis on human AML cells.
