Changes in posterior corneal elevation after small incision lenticule extraction for different myopic diopters

●AIM:To study the changes and effect factors of posterior corneal surface after small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)with different myopic diopters.●METHODS:Ninety eyes of 90 patients who underwent SMILE were included in this retrospective *** were allocated into three groups based on the preoperative spherical equivalent(SE):low myopia(SE≥-3.00 D),moderate myopia(-3.00 D>SE>-6.00 D)and high myopia(SE≤-6.00 D).Posterior corneal surfaces were measured by a Scheimpflug camera preoperatively and different postoperative times(1wk,1,3,6mo,and 1y).Posterior mean elevation(PME)at 25 predetermined points of 3 concentric circles(2-,4-,and 6-mm diameter)above the best fit sphere was analyzed.●RESULTS:All surgeries were completed uneventfully and no ectasia was found through the *** difference of myopia group was significant at the 2-mm ring at 1 and 3mo postoperatively(1mo:P=0.017;3mo:P=0.018).The effect of time onΔPME was statistically significant(2-mm ring:P=0.001;4-mm ring:Ptients with different degrees of myopia within one year after *** has good stability,accuracy,safety and predictability.

A total of 10 specimens of Alcyonacea corals were collected at depths ranging from 905 m to 1633 m by the manned submersible Shenhai Yongshi during two cruises in the South China Sea(SCS).Based on mitochondrial genomic characteristics,morphological examination,and sclerite scanning electron microscopy,the samples were categorized into four suborders(Calcaxonia,Holaxonia,Scleraxonia,and Stolonifera),and identified as 9 possible new cold-water coral *** of GC-skew dissimilarity,phylogenetic distance,and average nucleotide identity(ANI)revealed a slow evolutionary rate for the octocoral mitochondrial *** nonsynonymous(Ka)to synonymous(Ks)substitution ratio(Ka/Ks)suggested that the 14 protein-coding genes(PCGs)were under purifying selection,likely due to specific deep-sea environmental *** analysis of the median Ka/Ks values of five gene families and environmental factors indicated that the genes encoding cytochrome b(cyt b)and DNA mismatch repair protein(mutS)may be influenced by environmental factors in the context of deep-sea species *** study highlights the slow evolutionary pace and adaptive mechanisms of deep-sea corals.

Membrane technology has become one of the most promising separation technologies for its energy saving, high separation efficiency, environmental friendliness, and economic feasibility. Covalent organic frameworks(COFs) with intrinsically high porosity, controllable pore size, uniform pore size distribution and long-range ordered channel structure, have emerged as next-generation materials to fabricate advanced separation membranes. This feature article summarizes some latest studies in the development of pure COF membranes in our lab, including their fabrication and applications in chemical separations. Finally, current challenges facing high-performance COF separation membranes are discussed.

Lithium(Li)metal is regarded as a promising anode candidate for high-energy-density rechargeable ***,Li metal is highly reactive against electrolytes,leading to rapid decay of active Li metal ***,alloying Li metal with low-content magnesium(Mg)is proposed to mitigate the reaction kinetics between Li metal anodes and *** atoms enter the lattice of Li atoms,forming solid solution due to the low amount(5 wt%)of *** atoms mainly concentrate near the surface of Mg-alloyed Li metal *** reactivity of Mg-alloyed Li metal is mitigated kinetically,which results from the electron transfer from Li to Mg atoms due to the electronegativity *** on quantitative experimental analysis,the consumption rate of active Li and electrolytes is decreased by using Mgalloyed Li metal anodes,which increases the cycle life of Li metal batteries under demanding ***,a pouch cell(1.25 Ah)with Mg-alloyed Li metal anodes delivers an energy density of 340 Wh kg^(-1)and a cycle life of 100 *** work inspires the strategy of modifying Li metal anodes to kinetically mitigate the side reactions with electrolytes.

Enhancing Deep Learning Soil Moisture Forecasting Models by Integrating Physics-based Models

Accurate soil moisture(SM)prediction is critical for understanding hydrological ***-based(PB)models exhibit large uncertainties in SM predictions arising from uncertain parameterizations and insufficient representation of land-surface *** addition to PB models,deep learning(DL)models have been widely used in SM predictions ***,few pure DL models have notably high success rates due to lacking physical ***,we developed hybrid models to effectively integrate the outputs of PB models into DL models to improve SM *** this end,we first developed a hybrid model based on the attention mechanism to take advantage of PB models at each forecast time scale(attention model).We further built an ensemble model that combined the advantages of different hybrid schemes(ensemble model).We utilized SM forecasts from the Global Forecast System to enhance the convolutional long short-term memory(ConvLSTM)model for 1–16 days of SM *** performances of the proposed hybrid models were investigated and compared with two existing hybrid *** results showed that the attention model could leverage benefits of PB models and achieved the best predictability of drought events among the different hybrid ***,the ensemble model performed best among all hybrid models at all forecast time scales and different soil *** is highlighted that the ensemble model outperformed the pure DL model over 79.5%of in situ stations for 16-day *** findings suggest that our proposed hybrid models can adequately exploit the benefits of PB model outputs to aid DL models in making SM predictions.

Flexible 2 × 2 multiple access visible light communication system based on an integrated parallel GaN/InGaN micro-photodetector array module

In recent studies, visible light communication(VLC) has been predicted to be a prospective technique in the future 6G communication systems. To suit the trend of exponentially growing connectivity, researchers have intensively studied techniques that enable multiple access(MA) in VLC systems, such as the MIMO system based on LED devices to support potential applications in the Internet of Things(IoT) or edge computing in the nextgeneration access network. However, their transmission rate is limited due to the intrinsic bandwidth of ***, the majority of visible light laser communication (VLLC) research with beyond 10 Gb/s data rates concentrates on point-to-point links, or using discrete photodetector(PD) devices instead of an integrated array PD. In this paper, we demonstrated an integrated PD array device fabricated with a Si-substrated GaN/InGaN multiple-quantum-well(MQW) structure, which has a 4 × 4 array of 50 μm × 50 μm micro-PD units with a common cathode and anode. This single-integrated array successfully provides access for two different transmitters simultaneously in the experiment, implementing a 2 × 2 MIMO-VLLC link at 405 nm. The highest data rate achieved is 13.2 Gb/s, and the corresponding net data rate(NDR) achieved is 12.27 Gb/s after deducing the FEC overhead, using 2.2 GHz bandwidth and superposed PAM signals. Furthermore, we assess the Huffman-coded coding scheme, which brings a fine-grain adjustment in access capacity and enhances the overall data throughput when the user signal power varies drastically due to distance, weather, or other challenges in the channel condition. As far as we know, this is the first demonstration of multiple visible light laser source access based on a single integrated GaN/InGaN receiver module.

BMSC-derived Exosomes Ameliorate Peritoneal Dialysis-associated Peritoneal Fibrosis via the Mir-27a-3p/TP53 Pathway

Osteoblasts are essential in the maintenance of human bone homeostasis.1 The abnormal formation and impaired differentiation ability of osteoblasts are pivotal factors leading to bone-related diseases,suggesting that an indepth study of osteoblasts can provide novel treatment strategies for these diseases.2 Human primary osteoblasts are precious experimental models in bone-related research.3 However,the isolation and culture of human primary osteoblasts still have some difficulties and ***,we refined a method to isolate and culture human primary osteoblasts by taking cancellous bone through a bone tissue sampler and pre-digesting it with pancreatin,which makes the process easier,cheaper,and more ***,we compared the effects of the subtle changes in isolation and culture methods on the phenotype of human primary osteoblasts and examined the differences in morphology,proliferation,and differentiation between micro-explants cultured osteoblasts(MECOBs)and explants cultured osteoblasts(EC-OBs).
