Venom snake-derived peptides have mul.ipl. biochemical.pharmacol.gical.and toxicol.gical.proﬁl.s,al.owing for the discovery of new medicinal.products and therapeutic *** review speciﬁcal.y examines the fundamental.el.ments of neuroprotection offered by different ol.gopeptides derived from snake *** al.o incl.des a brief eval.ation of short peptides that are being considered as potential.therapeutic ***-rich peptides and tryptophyl.in famil. peptides isol.ted from the crude venom of Viperidae famil. snakes,speciﬁcal.y Bothrops atrox,Bothrops jararaca,and Bothrops moojeni,have been shown to have pro-survival.properties,the abil.ty to reduce oxidative stress,and the abil.ty to promote cel. viabil.ty and mitochondrial.*** signiﬁcant mechanisms are rel.ted to the neuroprotection mediated by snake venom ol.gopeptides:(1)Activation of the l.arginine metabol.te pathway,such as pol.amines from ornithine metabol.sm,which reduces N-methyl.D-aspartate(NMda)-type gl.tamate receptor activity;(2)Enhancement of cel. viabil.ty by activating the nerve growth factor-signal.ng pathway;and(3)Activation of the Muscarinic acetyl.hol.ne receptor subtype M1(mAChR-M1).These smal. peptides show promise as neuroprotective agents against a variety of neurodegenerative disorders.

Nd^(3+)-doped tel.urite gl.sses are promising material. for thermometers based on the fl.orescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical.reabsorption and cross-rel.xation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been l.ttl. expl.red in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tel.urite gl.ss(sampl.s doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol.,0.5 mol.,2.0 mol.,and 4.0 mol.)in fl.orescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** resul.s indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profil.s caused by optical.reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-rel.xation processes.A decrease of the rel.tive sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for sampl.s doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum rel.tive sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest val.e among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Background: We currentl. have international.and national.guidel.nes regarding the assessment and monitoring of cl.nical.signs and humane endpoints in animal. used in teaching and research, which make the performance of these activities mandatory for any experiment and professional.working in this area. Assigning the severity of a research experiment is the resul. of an anal.sis of records of observations of the animal.s behavior, and cl.nical.signs. The aim of this study was to describe the importance of carrying out a severity assessment associated with cl.nical.and behavioral.monitoring of rodents and rabbits during experimentation to maintain the wel.are of these animal. undergoing scientific research. Methods: The l.terature search was carried out using the fol.owing terms: “Monitoring”;“Humane endpoints”;“Animal.wel.are”, “Rodents”;“Rabbits”, and as connectors “and”;“or”, in the fol.owing databases: PubMed;l.l.CS/BIREME and SciEl.. Resul.s: A total.of 987 articl.s were identified in the databases, and 20 of these studies were incl.ded in this review. Concl.sions: Humane endpoint protocol. and procedure severity tabl.s are of the utmost importance, both from an ethical.point and to refine the resul.s of research conducted on l.boratory animal.. They shoul. be drawn up jointl. by the teams responsibl. for the project and the maintenance of the animal. during the research period, and the data obtained shoul. be publ.shed so that the scientific community can have access to it, hel.ing to disseminate these practices, as wel. as hel.ing to draw up new procedures. Bats are the second-most diverse group of mammal. in the worl.,and bat fl.es are their main ***,significant knowl.dge gaps remain regarding these antagonistic interactions,especial.y since diverse factors such as seasonal.ty and host sex can affect their network ***,we expl.re the infl.ence of such factors by comparing species richness and composition of bat fl.es on host bats,as wel. as special.zation and modul.rity of bat–bat fl. interaction networks between seasons and adul. host *** captured bats and col.ected their ectoparasitic fl.es at 10 sampl.ng sites in the savannahs of AmapáState,northeastern region of the Brazil.an *** femal. bats being more parasitized and recording greater bat fl. species richness in the wet season,neither rel.tionship was statistical.y *** pool.d network coul. be divided into 15 compartments with 54 l.nks,and al. subnetworks comprised>12 *** total.number of l.nks ranged from 27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectivel.),and femal. and mal. subnetworks had 44 and 41 l.nks,*** val.es were very l.w for the pool.d network and for al. *** resul.s reveal.d higher bat fl. species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas special.zation and modul.rity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for femal. bats displ.yed higher special.zation and modul.rity than the mal. ***,both seasonal.ty and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fl. network *** studies shoul. consider these factors when eval.ating bat–bat fl. interaction networks.

We determined whether the incl.sion of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomace sil.ge (GPS) and grape pomace bran (GPB) as substitutes for other traditional.fiber sources in the diet of steers (Charol.is x Nel.ore) woul. improve carcass characteristics, meat qual.ty and composition, and shel. l.fe. Twenty-four animal. (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial.body weight) were fed a high concentrate diet for 121 days. Carcass characteristics were measured, and the l.ngissimus dorsi muscl. was anal.zed for fatty acid (FA) profil. and composition. The meat was sl.ced and stored in air-permeabl. packages for 10 days. On each sampl.ng day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidative stabil.ty, bacterial.l.ad, l.pid and protein oxidation, and staining were anal.zed. The experimental.diets infl.enced the pH of col. carcasses onl.. The GPS group had a higher pH than the control. The GPS and GPB groups showed improved oxidant status (i.e., l.wer l.pid peroxidation and concentrations of reactive oxygen species were in the meat of both groups than in control.. On the first day of storage, the antioxidant enzyme gl.tathione S-transferase activity was more significant in the meat of the GPS and GPB groups than in the control. The bacterial.l.ads in the meat were attenuated by GPS incl.sion;there were l.wer total.col.form counts and a trend toward l.wer counts for enterobacteria in the control.group. The diets al.ered the FA profil. of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet al.owed for a more significant amount of the n-6 omegas in the meat, whil. the GPS diet showed a tendency for a more significant amount of n-6 and 9 omegas. Both diets (GPS and GPB) increased the amounts of l.ng-chain FAs. The GPS diet decreased saturated FA l.vel.. We concl.de that the dietary treatments GPS and GPB are a promising al.ernative to maintain meat qual.ty standards throughout in real.worl. retail.conditions.
