Dynamic interplay between dislocations and precipitates in creep aging of an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy

Abstract Creep age forming (CAF) is an advanced forming technology used for manufacturing large complex integrated panel components. However, in creep aging (CA), unlike in sole creep or aging procedure, the dislocation movement and the precipitation process occur simultaneously, leading to difficulty in understanding of the dynamic interplay between these two phenomena. In this work, taking 7050 Al alloy, a typical Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy, as the test material, an experimental scheme combining pre-deformation, artificial aging (AA), and tensile/ compressive CA is designed to decouple and reveal the dynamic interaction mechanism of both phenomena. From AA experiments, the static interaction between dislocations and precipitates is studied, and then their dynamic interactions in CA and each evolution are comparatively investigated. The research shows that both total strain and strain rate increase with the increase in pre-deformation in tensile and compressive CA. However, the total creep strain in compressive CA is larger than that in tensile CA. In additional, the more the dislocations are induced, the sparser and more heterogeneous the overall distribution of precipitates becomes. For dynamic interplay, in the first stage of CA (I), under thermal-mechanical loading, the GP zones and η phases gradually nucleate and grow, while the effect of dislocation multiplication is dominant compared with dislocation annihilation, leading to an increase in total dislocation density. Soon, the dislocation movement is gradually hindered by tangling, pile-up, and the precipitates that have grown on the dislocation lines, this decreases the mobile dislocation density and results in a significant decrease in creep rate. In the second stage (II), the precipitates grow further, especially those lying on the dislocation lines;the effects of pinning and hindrance are enhanced until the dislocation multiplication and annihilation reach a dynamic equilibrium, and the total and mobile dislocatio

Creep aging(CA)is a promising forming technology for integral panels with complex ***,how to balance excellent corrosion resistance and strength is still a challenge for CA *** synchronously applying electrical pulse(300 Hz,15 A/mm^(2))in the middle of steady-state CA of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy,the electrically assisted CA(ECA)is proposed to induce retrogression rapidly for realizing a three-step aging(retrogression and re-aging,RRA)in CA to tailor the needed properties *** is compared with conventional CA with one-step aging(peak aging,T6 or over aging,T7),two-step aging(over aging,T73)and RRA in hardness,intergranular corrosion and *** the ECA of pre-aging and re-aging for 20 h plus electropulsing for 10 min,the hardness is 10.5%,20.5%and 18.9%higher than those of CA with T6,T7 and T73 processes,respectively,while the corrosion resistance is higher than T6 process and lower than T7 and T73 *** the hardness and corrosion resistance are comparable to those of the CA with the RRA process,ECA takes one hour less due to the accelerated effect of the electropulsing and is not limited by the thick *** improved comprehensive performance of the ECA sample is due to both fine intragranular precipitatesη′and large discontinuous grain boundary precipitatesη.

Soil disturbance includes the change of stress state and the damage of soil *** field testing indices reflect the combined effect of both changes and it is difficult to identify the soil structure disturbance directly from these *** the present study,the small-strain shear modulus is used to characterize soil structure disturbance by normalizing the effective stress and void ratio based on Hardin *** procedure for evaluating soil sampling disturbance in the field and the further disturbance during the subsequent consolidation process in laboratory test is proposed,and then validated by a case study of soft clay *** seismic testing in the field,portable piezoelectric bender elements for the drilled sample and bender elements in triaxial apparatus for the consolidated sample were used to monitor the shear wave velocity of the soil from intact to disturbed and even remolded *** is found that soil sampling disturbance degree by conventional thin-wall sampler is about 30%according to the proposed procedure,which is slightly higher than that from the modified volume compression method proposed by Hong and Onitsuka(1998).And the additional soil disturbance induced by consolidation in laboratory could reach about 50%when the consolidation pressure is far beyond the structural yield stress,and it follows the plastic volumetric strain quite well.

New method for multibody dynamics based on unknown constraint force

This paper presents a new method for the dynamics of multibody systems based on unknown constraint force. The method can uniformly solve multibody systems with typical configurations, including the system with rigid-flexible coupling, the system in tree topology, and the system with loop constraints. Unlike common methods, the proposed method can model the loop system without “cutting off” loop constraints, leading to the exact same modelling process as the tree-like system performs. Based on graph theory, a topological record matrix M_(rec) is proposed to capture the arbitrary system configuration. Moreover, constraint forces are selected as the key variables in semi-recursive framework. With the recursive kinematics relationship between adjacent bodies, the constraint force equation is further assembled to achieve the full-state system solution. The numerical simulations demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method.

Mechanical properties and microstructure of Mg-treated and Catreated industrial H13 steel after quenching and tempering

The effect of magnesium treatment and calcium treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of industrial H13 steel after quenching and tempering was *** impact toughness and tensile tests were mainly carried out,and the microstructure was observed by scanning electron microscopy,electron backscattered diffraction,and X-ray *** results show that magnesium treatment is still feasible in industrial *** is mainly manifested in the refinement of lath martensite and *** with calcium treatment,the prior austenite grains and carbides size of industrial H13 steel treated with magnesium decreased by 3.17μm after *** quenching and tempering,the carbides(especially V-rich carbides)in Mg treatment obviously spheroidized and distributed uniformly and increased in quantity *** lath martensite size is reduced from 2.45 to 2.31μ*** suggests that magnesium treatment was able to yield smaller grains and more evenly distributed ***,the impact toughness,yield strength,and ultimate tensile strength of industrial H13 steel with magnesium treatment increased by 28%,65.5 MPa and 123.7 MPa,*** increment of strength mainly comes from dislocation strengthening,grain refinement strengthening,and precipitation strengthening,among which precipitation strengthening accounts for the largest proportion.

Mass transfer in heap leaching of weathered crust elution deposited rare earth ore with Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) solution

In order to increase efficiency and avoid NH^(4+)-N pollution in the leaching process of weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ores,the mass transfer in heap leaching with Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) solution was simulated with column elution and experimentally *** results indicate that the leaching yield is also up to 99%for leaching with aluminum sulfate instead of ammonium *** optimal flow rate is 60 mL/h,the height equivalent to a theoretical plate(HETP)is 1.29 mm *** peak value position of RE^(3+)is 60 mL/h,Fe^(3+)is 100 mL/h,however,Al^(3+)is 150 mL/h,and the heap leaching process has kinetic separation effect.

Systematic study of the synthesis of heavy and superheavy nuclei in 48Ca-induced fusion-evaporation reactions

We systematically studied the evaporation residue cross sections of ^(48)Ca-induced reactions on lanthanide and actinide target nuclei under the Dinuclear System(DNS)model framework to check the reliability and applicability of the *** produce new proton-rich Fl and Lv isotopes through hot fusion reactions in the superheavy element region with Z≥104,we utilized the reactions ^(48)Ca+^(236,238,239) Pu and ^(48)Ca+^(242,243,244,250) ***,owing to the detection limit of available equipment(0.1 pb),only 283Fl and 287−289Lv,which have the maximum evaporation residue cross section values of 0.149,0.130,9.522,and 0.309 pb,respectively,can be ***,to produce neutron-deficient isotopes of actinides near the proton drip line with Z=93−100,we attempted to generate the new isotopes(224−227Pu,228−232,237Cm)using the reactions ^(48)Ca+180,182,183 W and ^(48)Ca+^(184,186,187,192) *** maximum evaporation residue cross section values are 0.07,0.06,0.26,and 0.30 nb for the former set of reactions,and 1.96 pb,5.73 pb,12.16 pb,19.39 pb,54.79 pb,and 6.45 nb for the latter,*** results are expected to provide new information for the future synthesis of unknown neutron-deficient isotopes.

Selective adsorption of tetracycline by β-CD-immobilized sodium alginate aerogel coupled with ultrafiltration for reclaimed water

In this work,a novel composite material based on β-cyclodextrin-immobilized sodium alginate aerogel(β-CD/NaAlg) was developed utilizing cross-linker of epichlorohydrin and applied as an adsorbent to remove tetracycline antibiotics from reclaimed wastewater.A series of characterizations were utilized to confirm the successful synthesis of the adsorbent and this β-CD/NaAlg presented a three-dimensional network at the nanoscale or *** optimal conditions(pH=4,t=8 h,β-CD:NaAlg=9,adsorbent dosage = 1.5 g·L-1),the maximum removal rate of β-CD/NaAlg to tetracycline was 70%.The adsorption behavior of tetracycline on β-CD/NaAlg conformed to the Freundlich isotherm model(R2=0.9977) and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model(R^(2)=0.9993).Moreover,the adsorbent still removed 55.3% of tetracycline after five ***,the adsorbent was integrated with ultrafiltration to adsorb tetracycline antibiotics from simulated reclaimed wastewater,and the removal rate of tetracycline reached 78.9% within 2 *** existence of Cr(Ⅵ) had a negligible impact on tetracycline removal,while the presence of humic acid exhibited a promoting *** possible adsorption mechanisms were also elucidated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory *** summary,β-CD/NaAlg represents an environmentally friendly,efficient,and sustainable adsorbent for removing tetracycline antibiotics from reclaimed water.

Catalyst-free and Reprocessable Aromatic Polydithiourethanes

The incorporation of dynamic covalent bonds into thermosets facilitates the reprocessing of polymer networks, thereby meeting the sustainable requirements for polymer recycling. However, the mechanical properties of many materials often decline significantly upon reprocessing due to side reactions caused by harsh processing conditions. In this work, we find that the aromatic dithiocarbamate bond can undergo dissociation under mild conditions without the need for a catalyst, enabling the efficient reprocessing of the corresponding *** a consequence, the mechanical properties of the polydithiourethane can be largely preserved after reprocessing. The discovery of this dynamic chemistry is anticipated to broaden the potential for material design in dynamic covalent polymer networks.

Heterogeneous integration of 2D materials on Si charge-coupled devices as optical memory

Optical memory integrates the function of optical sensing in memory devices, remarkably promoting the interconnection between sensory and memory terminals. Silicon charge-coupled photodetectors and floating gate memory have been widely used in imaging and storage technologies, respectively. However,the heterogeneous integration of the two devices requires technological innovation and complex electrical connections. In this work, we adopt a three-dimensional layer stacking method to design a novel optical memory device. On the top of Si charge-coupled photodetectors, we successively deposit two-dimensional graphene,hexagonal boron nitride, and molybdenum disulfide as a floating gate layer, a tunneling layer, and a readout layer, respectively. By applying a gate bias on lightly doped Si, a deep depletion layer is formed with a high voltage potential drop. Under dark conditions, the depletion layer cannot be filled, and the electric field across the h-BN tunnel barrier is relatively small. Under light irradiation, the deep depletion layer is gradually filled, and the h-BN tunneling layer withstands the increasing electric field, resulting in charge storage in the floating gate layer. Based on this mechanism, the device exhibits a gate voltage-dependent operation mode, including an integrated optical sensing-memory mode and an electrically driven storage mode. Under moderate gate voltage, the device can effectively detect the optical information with varied intensity and store the optical information in the floating gate, displaying optically controlled memory characteristics. Our work demonstrates a compact device structure for optical memory and displays excellent optically controlled memory performance, which can be applied in artificial vision systems.
