Genetic structure and recent population demographic history of Taihangshan macaque(Macaca mulatta tcheliensis),North China

Massive actions have been and are being taken into protecting the world’s primates from extinction,while the study of the properties of genetic diversity,demographic history,and ecological relationships will beneﬁt the understand-ing of the long-term survival of a species.The Taihangshan macaque(Macaca mulatta tcheliensis),a subspecies of rhesus macaque(Macaca mulatta),is endemic to China and currently restricted to southern Mt.Taihangshan area.Herein,we evaluated the genetic diversity,population structure,and demographic history of this subspecies using mitochondrial(Cytb and high variable region I:HVR I)and nuclear markers(microsatellite loci)of 131 in-dividuals collected from 9 localities covering the distribution range of this subspecies.Both phylogenetic analyses and genetic assignment revealed that the wild populations of Taihangshan macaques could be divided into 2 major highly divergent clades,THS-east and THS-west.Low genetic diversity(π:0.00266±0.00016)but high haplotype diversity(Hd:0.80352±0.015)were detected in the Taihangshan macaques,particularly in THS-east.Analyses of demographic history suggested that the Taihangshan macaques experiencedﬁrst a stable historical population size from Holocene to early 19th century but a subtle decline and then slight growth in the recent 200 years.We suggest that bridging the neighbor populations(i.***.setting corridors)would facilitate the male-mediated geneﬂow and subsequently increase the genetic diversity of the Taihangshan macaque populations.

Models to Simulate Effective Coverage of Fire Station Based on Real-Time Travel Times

In recent years,frequent fire disasters have led to enormous damage in China.Effective firefighting rescues can minimize the losses caused by fires.During the rescue processes,the travel time of fire trucks can be severely affected by traffic conditions,changing the effective coverage of fire stations.However,it is still challenging to determine the effective coverage of fire stations considering dynamic traffic conditions.This paper addresses this issue by combining the traveling time calculationmodelwith the effective coverage simulationmodel.In addition,it proposes a new index of total effective coverage area(TECA)based on the time-weighted average of the effective coverage area(ECA)to evaluate the urban fire services.It also selects China as the case study to validate the feasibility of the models,a fire station(FS-JX)in Changsha.FS-JX station and its surrounding 9,117 fire risk points are selected as the fire service supply and demand points,respectively.A total of 196 simulation scenarios throughout a consecutiveweek are analyzed.Eventually,1,933,815 sets of valid sample data are obtained.The results showed that the TECA of FS-JX is 3.27 km^(2),which is far below the standard requirement of 7.00 km^(2) due to the traffic conditions.The visualization results showed that three rivers around FS-JX interrupt the continuity of its effective coverage.The proposed method can provide data support to optimize the locations of fire stations by accurately and dynamically determining the effective coverage of fire stations.

First report of complete mitochondrial genome in the subfamily Alleculinae and mitochondrial genome-based phylogenetics in Tenebrionidae(Coleoptera:Tenebrionoidea)

Despite worldwide distribution and rich diversity,the knowledge of mitochondrial genome(mtgenome)characteristics within the family Tenebrionidae(Coleoptera)is still very limited,and phylogenetics remain unresolved for the family.In this study,the mtgenomes for 12 species are newly sequenced and annotated.Three of the species represent the first report of complete mtgenomes from the subfamily Alleculinae.Comparative analysis of 36 tenebrionid mtgenomes finds that gene composition and order are the same as a theoretical ancestral insect mtgenome,and AT bias,length variation,and codon usage are consistent with other reported beetle mtgenomes.Some intergenic overlap and gap sequences may contain phylogenetically informative information,whereas neither the conserved nor repeat sequences in the control region do.The subfamilies Lagriinae,Pimeliinae,Stenochiinae,and Alleculinae are found to be monophyletic,and the subfamilies Diaperinae and Tenebrioninae polyphyletic in our study.Furthermore,Lagriinae is sister to the rest of the subfamilies.At the tribal level,the tribes Lagriini in the subfamily Lagrrinae;Strongyliini in Stenochiinae;Cteniopodini in Alleculinae;and Triboliini,Opatrini,and Amarygmini in Tenebrioninae are monophyletic;while Diaperini in Diaperinae,and Tenebrionini in Tenebrioninae are polyphyletic.

Multi-perspective analysis on rainfall-induced spatial response of soil suction in a vegetated soil

In this study, an intelligent monitoring platform is established for continuous quantification of soil,vegetation, and atmosphere parameters (e.g. soil suction, rainfall, tree canopy, air temperature, and windspeed) to provide an efficient dataset for modeling suction response through machine learning. Twocharacteristic parameters representing suction response during wetting processes, i.e. response time andmean reduction rate of suction, are formulated through multi-gene genetic programming (MGGP) usingeight selected influential parameters including depth, initial soil suction, vegetation- and atmosphererelated parameters. An error standardebased performance evaluation indicated that MGGP has appreciable potential for model development when working with even fewer than 100 data. Global sensitivityanalysis revealed the importance of tree canopy and mean wind speed to estimation of response timeand indicated that initial soil suction and rainfall amount have an important effect on the estimatedsuction reduction rate during a wetting process. Uncertainty assessment indicated that the two MGGPmodels describing suction response after rainfall are reliable and robust under uncertain conditions. Indepth analysis of spatial variations in suction response validated the robustness of two obtained MGGPmodels in prediction of suction variation characteristics under natural conditions.

Prognostic factors associated with gastrointestinal dysfunction after gastrointestinal tumor surgery: A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Explore the risk factors of gastrointestinal dysfunction after gastrointestinal tumor surgery and to provide evidence for the prevention and intervention of gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with gastrointestinal tumor surgery. AIM To investigate the potential risk factors for gastrointestinal dysfunction following gastrointestinal tumor surgery and to present information supporting the prevention and management of gastrointestinal dysfunction in surgery patients. METHODS Systematically searched the relevant literature from PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, China Biomedical Database, Wanfang Database, and Weipu Chinese Journal Database self-established until October 1, 2022. Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis after two researchers independently screened literature, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies. RESULTS A total of 23 pieces of literature were included, the quality of which was medium or above, and the total sample size was 43878. The results of meta-analysis showed that the patients were male (OR = 1.58, 95%CI: 1.25-2.01, P = 0.002) and >= 60 years old (OR = 2.60, 95%CI: 1.76-2.87, P = 25.3 kg/m2 (OR = 1.6, 95%CI: 1.00-1. 12, P = 0.040), smoking history (OR = 1.89, 95%CI: 1.31-2.73, P < 0.001), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.22-1.83, P < 0.001), enterostomy (OR = 1.47, 95%CI: 1.26-1.70, P < 0.001), history of abdominal surgery (OR = 2.90, 95%CI: 1.67-5.03, P < 0.001), surgical site (OR = 1.2, 95%CI: 1.40-2.62, P < 0.001), operation method (OR = 1.68, 95%CI: 1.08-2.62, P = 0.020), operation duration (OR = 2.65, 95%CI: 1.92-3.67, P < 0.001), abdominal adhesion grade (OR = 2.52, 95%CI: 1.90-3.56, P < 0.001), postoperative opioid history (OR = 5.35, 95%CI: 3.29-8.71, P < 0.001), tumor TNM staging (OR = 2.58, 95%CI: 1.84-3.62, P < 0.001), postoperative blood transfusion (OR = 2.92, 95%CI: 0.88-9.73, P = 0.010) is a risk factor for postoperati

Crop production and livelihoods of smallholder farmers are often threatened by crop insect pests and diseases worsening the insecurity of food.Globalization has rapidly increased the introduction and threats of invasive pests.Climate change results in a changed suitability of landscapes to pests,further increasing the threat and uncertainty of their impact.Providing innovative technologies for sustainable pest management to smallholder farmers is urgently needed for food security and eliminating poverty.

Improved landscape sampling method for landscape character assessment

Landscape character assessment(LCA)is an effective tool for understanding people’s perceptions and preferences of landscape characteristics.Other than the assessment indicators and subjects,the reliability of photos as assessment objects is equally important for the LCA result.However,the commonly used onsite photos are mainly obtained at randomly selected locations by the researchers.We can neither know whether those photos represent the researchers’own preferences,nor,to our best knowledge,can their reliability be tested scientifically.This method is also difficult to apply in large-scale geographical areas.To address these issues,we(1)propose an improved method including the protocols of photography and the sampling of photography locations,in which the fractal principle and stratified random sampling method were combined to minimize the effects of the researchers’preferences and other factors;(2)apply the method to the Guanzhong region as an example,and obtain sampling photos and their geographical coordinates,which can be used as a data package for LCA;(3)use Fractalyse to test the sampled result and receive good validity.In conclusion,this study extends the methodological chain of the LCA and supports the application of LCA in large-scale regions.

Lignin-based electrospun nanofiber membrane decorated with photo-Fenton Ag@MIF-100(Fe) heterojunctions for complex wastewater remediation

Membrane technology for wastewater remediation has aroused wide interest owing to its unique properties and potential applications.However,it remains challenging to explore green,efficient and robust membrane material and technique for complex wastewater treatment.Herein,we proposed using a simple electrospinning and in situ seeding method to fabricate a lignin-based electrospun nanofiber membrane(LENM)decorated with photo-Fenton Ag@MIL-100(Fe)heterojunctions for efficient separation of oil/water emulsions and degradation of organic dye.Thanks to the embedded lignin in LENM,an ultrahigh MIL-100(Fe)loading(53 wt%)with good wettability and high porosity was obtained.As a result,the hybrid Ag@MIL-100(Fe)/LENM exhibited excellent oil/water emulsions separation efficiency(more than 97%)without a compromise of water flux.Moreover,the hybrid membrane showed an excellent dye removal with degradation of 99%methylene blue within 30 min under illumination,which is attributed to a synergy of dye adsorption/enrichment and photo-Fenton catalytic degradation from Ag@MIL-100(Fe).Therefore,the lignin-based photo-Fenton hybrid membrane can lay the foundation for the preparation and application of green,sustainable and versatile membrane materials and technologies for efficient complex wastewater remediation.

SERS and EC dual-mode detection for dopamine based on WO_(3)-SnO_(2)nanoflake arrays

As an important neurotransmitter,the detection of dopamine(DA)is of great significance for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases.In this study,WO_(3)-SnO_(2)nanoflake arrays were synthesized on fluorine-doped tin oxide(FTO)by hydrothermal synthesis and pulse electrodeposition,revealing significant surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)activity with an enhancement factor(EF)reaching 4.79×10^(7).The obvious EF was mainly ascribed to the charge transfer between WO_(3)-SnO_(2)and methylene blue(MB)based on chemical mechanism(CM)and the molecular resonance effect.With the competitive adsorption of DA and absorbed MB,we prepared a SERS and electrochemical(EC)dual-mode detection platform of DA based on the WO_(3)-SnO_(2)nanoflake arrays.The linear range(LR)was 5.00-1.75×10^(3)nmol/L,and the detection limits(LODs)were as low as 1.50 and 0.80 nmol/L by SERS and EC respectively.Besides,the developed detection platform can shield the interference of many neurotransmitters similar to DA,showing good selectivity and excellent stability.In general,the SERS-EC dual-mode detection platform can be well applied to the detection of DA in cell lysate,demonstrating great potential in diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.

DiagDO: an efficient model based diagnosis approach with multiple observations

Model-based diagnosis(MBD)with multiple observations shows its significance in identifying fault location.The existing approaches for MBD with multiple observations use observations which is inconsistent with the prediction of the system.In this paper,we proposed a novel diagnosis approach,namely,the Diagnosis with Different Observations(DiagDO),to exploit the diagnosis when given a set of pseudo normal observations and a set of abnormal observations.Three ideas are proposed in this paper.First,for each pseudo normal observation,we propagate the value of system inputs and gain fanin-free edges to shrink the size of possible faulty components.Second,for each abnormal observation,we utilize filtered nodes to seek surely normal components.Finally,we encode all the surely normal components and parts of dominated components into hard clauses and compute diagnosis using the MaxSAT solver and MCS algorithm.Extensive tests on the ISCAS'85 and ITC'99 benchmarks show that our approach performs better than the state-of-the-art algorithms.
