Mechanical pretreatment is an indispensable process in biological treatment plants that remove plastics and other impurities from household biogenic waste(HBW).However,the imperfect separation of plastics in these pretreatment methods has raised concerns that they pose a secondary formation risk for microplastics(MPs).To validate this presumption,herein,quantities and properties of plastic debris and MPs larger than 50 μm were examined in the full chain of three different pretreatment methods in six plants.These facilities received HBW with or without prior depackaging at the source.The key points in the secondary formation of MPs were identified.Moreover,flux estimates of MPs were released,and an analysis of MPs sources was provided to develop an overview of their fate in HBW pretreatment.Pretreated output can contain a maximum of(1673±279) to(3198±263) MP particles per kilogram of wet weight(particles·kg^(-1)ww) for those undepackaged at source,and secondary MPs formation is primarily attributed to biomass crushers,biohydrolysis reactors,and rough shredders.Comparatively,HBW depackaged at the source can greatly reduce MPs by 8%-72%,regardless of pretreatment processes.Before pretreatment,4.6-205.6 million MP particles were present in 100 tonnes of HBW.MPs are produced at a rate of 741.11-33124.22 billion MP particles annually in anaerobic digester feedstock(ADF).This study demonstrated that HBW pretreatment is a competitive source of MPs and emphasized the importance of implementing municipal solid waste segregation at the source.Furthermore,depackaging biogenic waste at the source is recommended to substantially alleviate the negative effect of pretreatment on MPs formation.

To confirm the relationship between Circ_0003855 and EC,we purchased the human esophageal carcinoma cell line Eca109 and normal human esophageal epithelial cells HEEC,and the expression levels of Circ_0003855,miR-622,and FLOT1 were detected.The results show that Circ_0003855 and FLOT1 were highly expressed in Eca109 cells,while miR-622 was lowly expressed(p0.05).Synthesizing the results of these experiments above,we believe that interfering with the expression of Circ_0003855 can inhibit the activity of EC cells,and its mechanism is related to miR-622 and FLOT1.

Pathophysiological changes of muscle after ischemic stroke:a secondary consequence of stroke injury

Sufficient clinical evidence suggests that the damage caused by ischemic stroke to the body occurs not only in the acute phase but also during the recovery period,and that the latter has a greater impact on the long-term prognosis of the patient.However,current stroke studies have typically focused only on lesions in the central nervous system,ignoring secondary damage caused by this disease.Such a phenomenon arises from the slow progress of pathophysiological studies examining the central nervous system.Further,the appropriate therapeutic time window and benefits of thrombolytic therapy are still controversial,leading scholars to explore more pragmatic intervention strategies.As treatment measures targeting limb symptoms can greatly improve a patient’s quality of life,they have become a critical intervention strategy.As the most vital component of the limbs,skeletal muscles have become potential points of concern.Despite this,to the best of our knowledge,there are no comprehensive reviews of pathophysiological changes and potential treatments for post-stroke skeletal muscle.The current review seeks to fill a gap in the current understanding of the pathological processes and mechanisms of muscle wasting atrophy,inflammation,neuroregeneration,mitochondrial changes,and nutritional dysregulation in stroke survivors.In addition,the challenges,as well as the optional solutions for individualized rehabilitation programs for stroke patients based on motor function are discussed.

Non-Targeted Metabolomics Reveals the Metabolic Alterations in Response to Artificial Selective Breeding in the Fast-Growing Strains of Pacific Oyster

Pacific oyster(Crassostrea gigas)is one of the most important mollusks cultured all around the world.Selective breeding programs of Pacific oysters in China is initiated since 2006 and developed the genetically improved strain with fast-growing trait.However,little is known about the metabolic signatures of the fast-growing trait.In the present study,the non-targeted metabolomics was performed to analyze the metabolic signatures of adductor muscle tissue in one-year old Pacific oysters from fast-growing strain and the wild population.A total of 7767 and 10174 valid peaks were extracted and quantified in ESI^(+)and ESI^(−)modes,resulting in 399 and 381 annotated metabolites,respectively.PCA and OPLS-DA revealed that considerable separation among samples from fastgrowing strain and wild population,suggesting the differences in metabolic signatures.Meanwhile,81 significantly different metabolites(SDMs)were identified in the comparisons between fast-growing strain and wild population,based on the strict thresholds.It was found that there were highly correlation and conserved coordination among these SDMs.KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that the SDMs were tightly related to pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis,steroid hormone biosynthesis,riboflavin metabolism,and arginine and proline metabolism.Of them,the CoA biosynthesis and metabolism,affected by pantetheine and pantothenic acid,might be important for the growth of Pacific oysters under artificial selective breeding.The study provides the comprehensive views of metabolic signatures in response to artificially selective breeding,and is helpful to better understand the molecular mechanism of fastgrowing traits in Pacific oysters.

An analytical model of hot rolling force for a thick plate by combining globally optimal approximation yield criterion and egg-circular velocity field

For the sake of solving the problem that it is difficult to be integrated for the Mises specific plastic power due to its nonlinearity,a new linear criterion,named the globally optimal approximation criterion,is constructed by the polygonal approximation to the Mises circle.The new criterion is proved to be the linear function of the principal stress componentsσ1,σ2 andσ3 and the trajectory of it on theπ-plane is a non-equiangular but equilateral dodecagon intersecting the Mises circle.The theoretical results of the current criterion described by the Lode stress parameters are in excellent accordance with the experimental results.Meanwhile,according to the trend that the metallic flow velocity between rollers aggrandizes gradually from the inlet to the outlet during the hot rolling of a thick plate,a biomimetic velocity field is proposed in which the horizontal velocity component fits the egg-circular curve distribution.The velocity field and its simulated results agree quite well.Subsequently,using the determined linear criterion,energy analysis of the constructed velocity field is utilized to obtain the interior deformation power,while the vector decomposition approach is utilized to obtain the frictional power and shear power.On this basis,the overall power is obtained and the analytical solutions are generated for the rolling torque,rolling force and the coefficient of the stress state under different egg curves by minimizing the neutral angle.Furthermore,the parameter optimization of the characteristic parameterρwhich affects the slope of the egg-circular curve is carried out and the best egg-circular curve which can minimize the energy consumption is determined.The best agreement between the theoretical and observed values of rolling force and rolling torque is under this curve,and the mean relative errors of the rolling torque and rolling force are no more than 2.93%,while the maximum error is no more than 8.35%.

Phase transfer-based high-efficiency recycling of precious metal electrocatalysts

Recycling precious metals with high-efficiency is undoubtedly beneficial to optimize resource utilization for environmental remediation and sustainable development.Herein,we report an efficient route to recycle the palladium(Pd)and platinum(Pt)electrocatalysts using a phase transfer method.This strategy involves acidic dissolution of deactivated precious metal(Pd/Pt)electrocatalysts from their loading substrates,mixing with an ethanolic solution of dodecylamine(DDA),subsequent extraction of metal ions into a non-polar organic phase,and final reduction by sodium borohydride to reproduce high-performance electrocatalysts towards typical electrochemical reactions,e.g.,oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR).In specific,the transfer efficiencies are up to 98%and the final recovery rate is over 85%for Pd and Pt electrocatalysts in each cycle.This approach symbolizes a facile and efficient way to recover precious metals,which might be applied to recycling a wide range of metals in various realms after appropriate modifications.

Efficacy of Daoyin combined with lower limb robot as a comprehensive rehabilitation intervention for stroke patients: a randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of a comprehensive rehabilitation approach combining Traditional Chinese Medicine Daoyin with lower limb robotics during the recovery phase of stroke patients.METHODS: Stroke patients meeting the specified criteria were randomly assigned to one of four groups using a random number table: Control group, Daoyin group, lower limb robot group(LLR group), and Daoyin and lower limb robot group(DLLR group). Each group received distinct treatments based on conventional rehabilitation training.The treatment duration spanned two weeks with two days of rest per week. Pre-and post-intervention assessments included various scales: Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA),Berg balance scale(BBS), Barthel index(BI), Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14), Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA), and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD).RESULTS: Statistically significant differences were observed in the lower limb function measured by FAM between the Control group(15 ± 5) and the DLLR group(18 ± 5)(P = 0.049). In the Barthel index, a statistically significant difference was noted between the Control group(54 ± 18) and the DLLR group(64 ± 11)(P = 0.041).Additionally, significant differences were found in the Berg balance scale between the Control group(21 ± 10)and the DLLR group(27 ± 8)(P = 0.024), as well as between the Control group(21 ± 10) and the LLR group(26 ± 10)(P = 0.048).CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that the combined use of Daoyin and robotics not only enhances motor function in stroke patients but also has a positive impact on fatigue, sleep quality, and mood. This approach may offer a more effective rehabilitation strategy for stroke patients.

Spin effect on redox acceleration and regioselectivity in Fe-catalyzed alkyne hydrosilylation

Iron catalysts are ideal transition metal catalysts because of the Earths abundant, cheap, biocompatible features of iron salts. Iron catalysts often have unique open-shell structures that easily undergo spin crossover in chemical transformations, a feature rarely found in noble metal catalysts. Unfortunately, little is known currently about how the open-shell structure and spin crossover affect the reactivity and selectivity of iron catalysts, which makes the development of iron catalysts a low efficient trial-and-error program. In this paper, a combination of experiments and theoretical calculations revealed that the iron-catalyzed hydrosilylation of alkynes is typical spin-crossover catalysis. Deep insight into the electronic structures of a set of well-defined open-shell active formal Fe(0) catalysts revealed that the spin-delocalization between the iron center and the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand effectively regulates the iron center's spin and oxidation state to meet the opposite electrostatic requirements of oxidative addition and reductive elimination, respectively,and the spin crossover is essential for this electron transfer process. The triplet transition state was essential for achieving high regioselectivity through tuning the nonbonding interactions. These findings provide an important reference for understanding the effect of catalyst spin state on reaction. It is inspiring for the development of iron catalysts and other Earth-abundant metal catalysts, especially from the point of view of ligand development.

Accurate and efficient remaining useful life prediction of batteries enabled by physics-informed machine learning

The safe and reliable operation of lithium-ion batteries necessitates the accurate prediction of remaining useful life(RUL).However,this task is challenging due to the diverse ageing mechanisms,various operating conditions,and limited measured signals.Although data-driven methods are perceived as a promising solution,they ignore intrinsic battery physics,leading to compromised accuracy,low efficiency,and low interpretability.In response,this study integrates domain knowledge into deep learning to enhance the RUL prediction performance.We demonstrate accurate RUL prediction using only a single charging curve.First,a generalisable physics-based model is developed to extract ageing-correlated parameters that can describe and explain battery degradation from battery charging data.The parameters inform a deep neural network(DNN)to predict RUL with high accuracy and efficiency.The trained model is validated under 3 types of batteries working under 7 conditions,considering fully charged and partially charged cases.Using data from one cycle only,the proposed method achieves a root mean squared error(RMSE)of 11.42 cycles and a mean absolute relative error(MARE)of 3.19%on average,which are over45%and 44%lower compared to the two state-of-the-art data-driven methods,respectively.Besides its accuracy,the proposed method also outperforms existing methods in terms of efficiency,input burden,and robustness.The inherent relationship between the model parameters and the battery degradation mechanism is further revealed,substantiating the intrinsic superiority of the proposed method.
