Episodic Learning and Memory in prodromal Huntington’s Disease: The Role of Multimodal Encoding and Selective Reminding

This study investigated episodic memory in prodromal HD. Three groups were compared (n = 70): mutation carriers with less than 12.5 years to disease onset (n = 16), mutation carriers with 12.5 or more years to disease onset (n = 16), and noncarriers (n = 38). Episodic memory was assessed using the Fuld Object Memory Evaluation, which included multimodal presentation and selective reminding, and the Claeson-Dahl Learning Test which included verbal repeated presentation and recall trials. Both carrier groups demonstrated deficient episodic memory compared to noncarriers. The results suggest deficient episodic memory in prodromal HD, and that inconsistent retrieval contributes to these deficits. Multimodal presentation attenuates the deficits.

手术中知晓定义为自发性的回忆起某件在全身麻醉下发生的事情。由于不再一味地强调麻醉方法必须限制药物透过胎盘，剖宫产的手术中知晓发生率已经下降至约0．26％。尽管如此，知晓还是有不良的并发症，可引起创伤后应激综合征。评估麻醉深度对麻醉医师来说仍是一项挑战，因为临床指征不可靠，而且没有敏感和特异性的监测仪。BIS监测目标〈60被推荐用于预防手术中知晓。麻醉诱导药物产生遗忘和催眠作用的时间不同，取决于它们再分布的速率。已证实麻醉诱导后，吸入麻醉必须维持在0．7MAC，可保持BIS平均值始终〈60的水平。由于n2O摄取迅速，仍然是降低急诊剖宫产手术中知晓风险的重要麻醉辅助药。在胎儿需要的情况下，没有理由认为吸入氧浓度要〉0．33。较深的麻醉可以减少手术中知晓，目前的证据没有显示其能增加子宫收缩不良的风险和胎儿的发病率。

DnA-based nanofabrication of inorganic nanostructures has potential application in electronics,catalysis,and *** DnA metallization has generated conductive DnA-assembled nanostructures;however,the use of semiconductors and the development of well-connected nanoscale metal-semiconductor junctions on DnA nanostructures are still at an early ***,we report the first fabrication of multiple electrically connected metal-semiconductor junctions on individual DnA origami by location-specific binding of gold and tellurium *** attachment to DnA origami was via DnA hybridization for Au and by electrostatic interaction for *** gold plating was used to create nanoscale metal-semiconductor interfaces by filling the gaps between Au and Te ***-point electrical characterization indicated that the Au-Te-Au junctions were electrically connected,with current-voltage properties consistent with a Schottky ***-based nanofabrication of metal-semiconductor junctions opens up potential opportunities in nanoelectronics,demonstrating the power of this bottom-up approach.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to provide a comprehensive benchmark of 30-day ventriculoperitoneal(Vp)shunt failure rates for a single institution over a 5-year study period for both adult and pediatric patients,to compare this with the results in previously published literature,and to establish factors associated with shunt *** A retrospective database search was undertaken to identify all Vp shunt operations performed in a single,regional neurosurgical unit during a 5-year *** were collected regarding patient age,sex,origin of hydrocephalus,and whether the shunt was a primary or secondary *** notes were used to ascertain the type of valve inserted,which components of the shunt were adjusted/replaced(in revision cases),level of seniority of the most senior surgeon who participated in the operation,and number of surgeons involved in the *** appropriate and where available,postoperative imaging was assessed for grade of shunt placement,using a recognized grading *** and multivariate models were used to establish factors associated with early(30-day)shunt *** Six hundred eighty-three Vp shunt operations were performed,of which 321 were pediatric and 362 were *** median duration of postoperative follow-up for nonfailed shunts(excluding deaths)was 1263 days(range 525-2226 days).The pediatric 30-day shunt failure rates in the authors'institution were 8.8%for primary shunts and 23.4%for *** adults,the 30-day shunt failure rates are 17.7%for primary shunts and 25.6%for *** pediatric procedures,the number of surgeons involved in the operating theater was significantly associated with shunt failure *** adults,the origin of hydrocephalus was a statistically significant *** shunts lasted longer than revision shunts,irrespective of patient *** A benchmark of 30-day failures is presented and is consistent with current national databases and previously p
