Corrosion behavior of Fe–Cr–Ni based alloys exposed to molten MgCl_(2)–KCl–NaCl salt with over-added Mg corrosion inhibitor

MgCl_(2)–NaCl–KCl salts mixture shows great potential as a high-temperature(>700°C)thermal energy storage material in next-generation concentrated solar power *** Mg into molten MgCl_(2)–NaCl–KCl salt as a corrosion inhibitor is one of the most effective and cost-effective methods to mitigate the molten salt corrosion of commercial Fe–Cr–Ni ***,it is found in this work that both stainless steel 310 and Incoloy 800H samples were severely corroded after 500 h immersion test at 700°C when the alloy samples directly contacted with the over-added Mg in the liquid *** corrosion attack is different from the classical impurity-driven corrosion in molten chloride salts found in previous *** analysis indicates that Ni preferentially leaches out of alloy matrix due to the tendency to form MgNi_(2)/Mg_(2)Ni *** Ni-depletion leads to the formation of a porous corrosion layer on both alloys,with the thickness around 204μm(stainless steel 310)and 1300μm(Incoloy 800H),*** results suggest that direct contact of liquid Mg with Ni-containing alloys should be avoided during using Mg as a corrosion inhibitor for MgCl_(2)–NaCl–KCl or other chlorides for high temperature heat storage and transfer.

Progress in Research and Development of Molten Chloride Salt Technology for Next Generation Concentrated Solar Power Plants

Concentrated solar power(CSP)plants with thermal energy storage(TES)system are emerging as one kind of the most promising power plants in the future renewable energy system,since they can supply dispatchable and low-cost electricity with abundant but intermittent solar *** order to significantly reduce the levelized cost of electricity(LCOE)of the present commercial CSP plants,the next generation CSP technology with higher process temperature and energy efficiency is being *** TES system in the next generation CSP plants works with new TES materials at higher temperatures(>565℃)compared to that with the commercial nitrate salt *** paper reviews recent progressin research and development of the next generation CSP and TES *** is given on theadvanced'TES technology based on molten chloride salt mixtures such as MgCl_(2)/NaCl/KCl which hassimilar thermo-physical properties as the commercial nitrate salt mixtures,higher thermal stability(>800℃),and lower costs(<0.35USD·kg^(-1)).Recent progress in the selection/optimization of chloridesalts,determination of molten chloride salt properties,and corrosion control of construction materials(eg.,alloys)in molten chlorides is reviewed.

Recently, more and more attention is paid on applications of molten chlorides in concentrated solar power （CSP） plants as high-temperature thermal energy storage （TES） and heat transfer fluid （HTF） materials due to their high thermal stability limits and low prices, compared to the commercial TES/HTF materials in CSP- nitrate salt mixtures. A higher TES/HTF operating temperature leads to higher efficiency of thermal to electrical energy conversion of the power block in CSP, however causes additional challenges, particularly increased corrosiveness of metallic alloys used as contain- ers and structural materials. Thus, it is essential to study corrosion behaviors and mechanisms of metallic alloys in molten chlorides at operating temperatures （500-800℃） for realizing the commercial application of molten chlorides in CSE The results of studies on hot corrosion of metallic alloys in molten chlorides are reviewed to understand their corrosion behaviors and mechanisms under various conditions （e.g., temperature, atmosphere）. Emphasis has also been given on salt purification to reduce corrosive impurities in molten chlorides and development of electrochemical techniques to in-situ monitor corrosive impurities in molten chlorides, in order to efficiently control corrosion rates of metallic alloys in molten chlorides to meet the requirements of industrial applications.

Direct quantification of topological protection in symmetry-protected photonic edge states at telecom wavelengths

Topological on-chip photonics based on tailored photonic crystals(PhCs)that emulate quantum valley-Hall effeas has recently gained widespread interest owing to its promise of robust unidirectional transport of classical and quantum *** present a direct quantitative evaluation of topological photonic edge eigenstates and their transport properties in the telecom wavelength range using phase-resolved near-field optical *** visualizing the detailed sub-wavelength structure of these modes propagating along the interface between two topologically non-trivial mirror-symmetric lattices allows us to map their dispersion relation and differentiate between the contributions of several higher-order Bloch *** probing of forward-and backward-propagating modes as defined by their phase velocities enables direct quantification of topological *** near-field propagation in controlled defects allows us to extract upper limits of topological protection in on-chip photonic systems in comparison with conventional PhC *** find that protected edge states are two orders of magnitude more robust than modes of conventional PhC *** direct experimental quantification of topological robustness comprises a crucial step toward the application of topologically protected guiding in integrated photonics,allowing for unprecedented error-free photonic quantum networks。

Chirality enables thermal magnon transistors

We report a theory of thermal spin pumping into proximity magnets under a transverse-bias-driven heat flow of magnons in magnetic films when the dipolar coupling to the magnetic gate is tuned to be “chiral”. While there is no rectification of the magnon current in the film, we predict that chirality diverts a large percentage(50% for perfect chirality) of it into the gate. This transverse thermal spin pumping effect can be controlled by rotating the film magnetization and may help manage the heat flow in future magnonic circuits.

Reservoir quality evaluation of the Narimba Formation in Bass Basin,Australia:Implications from petrophysical analysis,sedimentological features,capillary pressure and wetting fluid saturation

The evaluation of reservoir quality was accomplished on the Late Paleocene to Early Eocene Narimba Formation in Bass Basin,*** study involved combination methods such as petrophysical analysis,petrography and sedimentological studies,reservoir quality and fluid flow units from derivative parameters,and capillary pressure and wetting fluid saturation *** and diagenetic features are affecting the reservoir ***,compaction,and presence of clay minerals such as kaolinite are found to reduce the quality while dissolution and secondary porosity are noticed to improve *** is believed that the Narimba Formation is a potential reservoir with a wide range of porosity and *** ranges from 3.1%to 25.4%with a mean of 15.84%,while permeability ranges between 0.01 mD and 510 mD,with a mean of 31.05 *** on the heterogenous lithology,the formation has been categorized into five groups based on permeability *** I showed an excellent to good quality reservoir with coarse *** impacts of both textural and diagenetic features improve the reservoir and producing higher reservoir quality index(RQI)and flow zone indicators(FZI)as well as mostly mega *** non-wetting fluid migration has the higher possibility to flow in the formation while displacement pressure recorded as *** II showed a fair quality reservoir with lower petrophysical properties in macro *** irreducible water saturation is increasing while the textural and digenetic properties are still enhancing the reservoir *** III reflects lower quality reservoir with mostly macro pores and higher displacement *** may indicate smaller grain size and increasing amount of cement and clay *** IV,and V are interpreted as a poor-quality reservoir that has lower RQI and *** textural and digenetic features are negatively affecting the reservoir and are leading to smaller pore size and pore throat radii(r35)

结合热能储存（TES,以下简称储热）的太阳能光热发电（concentrated solar power, CSP）技术是未来可再生能源系统中最具应用前景的发电技术之一,其可高效利用资源丰富但具间歇性的太阳能,为人们提供稳定可调度且低成本的电力。为了大幅度降低现有商业光热电站的平准化发电成本（levelized cost of electricity, LCOE）,人们正在开发具有更高运行温度和发电效率的新一代CSP技术。与目前商业熔融硝酸盐储热系统相比,下一代CSP电站中的储热系统通过使用新型储热材料可在更高的温度（> 565℃）下运行。本文首先介绍了下一代CSP技术及其储热技术的研发进展,之后重点介绍了基于熔融氯盐（如Mg Cl2/NaCl/KCl混合盐）的先进储热技术。Mg Cl2/NaCl/KCl具有与商业熔融硝酸盐相似的热物性、更高的热稳定性（>800℃）和更低的材料成本(<0.35 USD·kg–1)。本文综述了熔融氯盐储热技术中混合氯盐的选择与优化、储热相关物性的测定,以及系统中使用的结构材料（如合金）的熔盐腐蚀控制等方面的最新研究进展。

Radiationless anapole states in on-chip photonics

High-index nanoparticles are known to support radiationless states called anapoles,where dipolar and toroidal moments interfere to inhibit scattering to the far *** order to exploit the striking properties arising from these interference conditions in photonic integrated circuits,the particles must be driven in-plane via integrated ***,we address the excitation of electric anapole states in silicon disks when excited on-chip at telecom *** contrast to normal illumination,we find that the anapole condition-identified by a strong reduction of the scattering-does not overlap with the near-field energy maximum,an observation attributed to retardation *** experimentally verify the two distinct spectral regions in individual disks illuminated in-plane from closely placed waveguide terminations via far-field and near-field *** finding has important consequences concerning the use of anapole states and interference effects of other Mie-type resonances in high-index nanoparticles for building complex photonic integrated circuitry.
