Background:the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus disease(EVD)in Sierra Leone has been characterized by the World Health Organization as one of the most challenging EVD outbreaks to *** first confirmed case in Sierra Leone was a young woman who was admitted to a government hospital in Kenema following a miscarriage on 24 May *** 5 January 2015,intensified training for an EVD response project was initiated at the medical university of Sierra Leone in *** understand the knowledge,attitudes,practices,and perceived risk of EVD among the public,especially after this training,a rapid assessment was conducted from 10 to 16 March ***:Interviews were conducted with 466 participants based on questionnaires that were distributed from 10 to 16 March 2015 by cluster sampling in three adjacent communities,namely Jui,Grafton,and Kossoh town,in the Western Area Rural District of Sierra ***:It was found that knowledge about EVD was comprehensive and *** attitude towards prevention was found to be *** all participants knew the reporting phone number 117 and had reported some change in behavior since learning about *** than half(62%)of the participants had a history of travelling to urban areas,which increases the risk of *** multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that community and occupation were variables associated with perceived risk of ***:Our study showed that community level social mobilization and community engagement were an effective strategy in the special context.

Calcineurin(CN)is a calcium-and calmodulindependent serine/threonine that has been studied in many model organisms including yeast,filamentous fungi,plants,and *** biological functions range from ion homeostasis and virulence in lower eukaryotes to t-cell activation in humans by human nuclear factors of activated *** is a heterodimeric protein consisting of a catalytic subunit,calcineurin A(Cna1p),which contains an active site with a dinuclear metal center,and a regulatory Ca^(2+) binding subunit called calcineurin B(Cnb1p)required to activate *** calcineurin B subunit has been highly conserved through evolution:For example,the mammalian calcineurin B shows 54%identity with calcineurin B from Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Computational Design and Fabrication of Enantioselective Recognition Sorbents for L-phenylalanine Benzyl Ester on Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes Using Molecular Imprinting technology

Computational strategies have been employed to investigate the influence of the nature of monomers and cross-linker in order to design three dimensional imprinted polymers with selective recognition sites for L-phenylalanine benzyl ester(L-PABE)***,computational chemistry methods were applied to screen the molar quantity of functional monomers that interact with one mole of the template *** of the nature of functional monomer,cross-linker,and molar ratio were determined computationally using density functional calculations with B3LYP functional and generic 6-31G basis *** acid(MAA)and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA)were used as the functional monomer and crosslinking agent,respectively.L-PABE imprinted polymer layered on multiwalled carbon nanotube(MWCNt)and conventional bulk MIP were synthesised and characterized as *** investigate the influence of pre-organization of binding sites on the selectivity of L-PABE,respective non-imprinted polymers were also ***-MIPs and MIPs exhibited the highest adsorption capacity towards *** synthesized polymers revealed characteristic adsorption features and selectivity towards L-PABE in comparison with those of its enantiomer analogues.

From foraging to autonoetic consciousness： the primal self as a consequence of embodied prospective foraging

the capacity to adapt to resource distributions by modulating the frequency of exploratory and exploitative behaviors is common across metazoans and is arguably a principal selective force in the evolution of cognition. Here we （I） review recent work investigating behavioral and biological commonalities between external foraging in space and internal foraging over envi- ronments specified by cognitive representations, and （2） explore the implications of these commonalities for understanding the origins of the self. Behavioural commonalities include the capacity for what is known as area-restricted search in the ecological literature： this is search focussed around locations where resources have been found in the past, but moving away from locations where few resources arc found, and capable of producing movement pattems mimicking L6vy flights. Area-restricted search shares a neural basis across metazoans, and these biological commonalities in vertebrates suggest an evolutionary homology be- tween external and internal foraging. Internal foraging, and in particular a form we call embodied prospective foraging, makes available additional capacities for prediction based on search through a cognitive representation of the external environment, and allows predictions about outcomes of possible future actions. We demonstrate that cognitive systems that use embodied prospec- tive foraging require a primitive sense of self, needed to distinguish actual from simulated action. this relationship has implica- tions for understanding the evolution of autonoetic consciousness and self-awareness.

this pilot study attempts to demonstrate some underlying scanning electron microscopy themes of quartz grain surface textures. A variety of textural patterns and individual features are described for grains selected from various littoral environments. An attempt was made to differentiate samples on surface textures alone, but limitations of using this technique in sedimentological isolation were apparent. Statistical analysis of checklist data and photographic evidence revealed some of the more important feature combinations used in environmental diagnosis. the use of discriminant analysis provided quantitative sample separation.

the generation of electricity based on renewable energy sources,parti-cularly Photovoltaic(PV)system has been greatly increased and it is simply insti-gated for both domestic and commercial *** power generated from the PV system is erratic and hence there is a need for an efﬁcient converter to perform the extraction of maximum *** improved interleaved Single-ended Primary Inductor-Converter(SEPIC)converter is employed in proposed work to extricate most of power from renewable *** proposed converter minimizes ripples,reduces electromagnetic interference due toﬁlter elements and the contin-uous input current improves the power output of PV panel.A Crow Search Algo-rithm(CSA)based Proportional Integral(PI)controller is utilized for controlling the converter switches effectively by optimizing the parameters of PI *** optimized PI controller reduces ripples present in Direct Current(DC)vol-tage,maintains constant voltage at proposed converter output and reduces over-shoots with minimum settling and rise *** voltage is given to single phase grid via 1�Voltage Source Inverter(VSI).the command pulses of 1�VSI are produced by simple PI *** response of the proposed converter is thus improved with less input *** implementing CSA based PI the efﬁciency of proposed converter obtained is 96%and the total Harmonic Distor-tion(tHD)is found to be 2:4%.the dynamics and closed loop operation is designed and modeled using MAtLAB Simulink tool and its behavior is performed.

Plasmon-enhanced electrocatalysis(PEEC)is an emerging approach to mitigate CO_(2)*** mechanisms behind CO_(2)adsorption and reduction at the catalyst-electrolyte interface in PEEC still need to be further ***,we employ a well-defined Ag nanostructure to elucidate these pivotal *** shining light with wavelengths of 625,525,405 nm on Ag,an adjustable CO/H_(2)ratio from 35 to 1 can be *** reaction pathway changing under plasmonic excitation does not originate from the lowered CO_(2)mass transfer in the vicinity of Ag,as the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance results unravel that a slightly elevated temperature in bulk electrolyte caused by light irradiation cannot weaken the CO_(2)adsorption at the Ag catalyst-electrolyte *** calculations reveal that optical excitation towards shorter wavelengths leads to a progressive lowered energy barrier for H_(2)formation together with an enhanced energy barrier for^(*)COOH *** thermodynamically suppressed,CO_(2)reduction can still be improved kinetically by optimizing the excitation wavelength and intensity,being accompanied with the enhanced *** absorption spectroscopy results further correlate the higher photocurrent with a prolonged electron-phonon coupling time,verifying that the improvement of CO_(2)reduction kinetics in PEEC can be realized by hot electron harnessing.

Evolution of systemic therapy of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) commonly occurs in hepatitis B endemic areas, especially in Asian countries. HCC is highly refractory to cytotoxic chemotherapy. this resistance is partly related to its tumor biology, pharmacokinetic properties, and both intrinsic and acquired drug resistance. there is no convincing evidence thus far that systemic chemotherapy improves overall survival in advanced HCC patients. Other systemic approaches, such as hormonal therapy and immunotherapy, have also disappointing results. Recently, encouraging results have been shown in using sorafenib in the treatment of advanced HCC patients. In this review, we concisely summarize the evolution of developments in the systemic therapy of advanced HCC.

Capacity of Old trees to Respond to Environmental Change

Atmospheric carbon dioxide [CO2] has increased dramatically within the current life spans of long-lived trees and old forests. Consider that a 500-year-old tree in the early twenty-first century has spent 70% of its life growing under preindustrial levels of [CO2], which were 30% lower than current levels. Here we address the question of whether old trees have already responded to the rapid rise in [CO2] occurring over the past 150 years. In spite of limited data, aging trees have been shown to possess a substantial capacity for increased net growth after a period of post-maturity growth decline. Observations of renewed growth and physiological function in old trees have, in some instances, coincided with Industrial Age increases in key environmental resources, including [CO2], suggesting the potential for continued growth in old trees as a function of continued global climate change.

High pressure luminescence studies of europium doped GaN

We reported on the high pressure luminescence spectra of polycrystalline Eu-doped GaN material synthesized in the reaction between alloys of gallium, bismuth and europium in ammonia atmosphere. the integrated luminescence intensity of the dominant Eu3＋ ion transition （5D0→^7F2） at 622 nm increased approximately one order of rnagnitude whereas its spectral position and line width did not change significantly between ambient and 6.8 GPa pressure, respectively. Moreover, material was characterized with photo- and cathodo-luminescence, and photoluminescence excitation spectra at different temperatures. It was found that the Eu3＋ ions occupying substitutional Ga site created different centers which could be effectively excited with above band gap excitation and from excitons resonantly photoexcited at the I2 bound exciton energy. Furthermore, the less efficient Eu3＋ ions excitation path existed through intrinsic impurities and defeels generating shallow energy levels in the forbidden gap. It was proposed that reduction of the thermal quenching and consequent enhancement of Eu3＋ ion emission intensity resulted from stronger localization of bound exciton on RESI trap induced by applied pressure.
