Societal biosecurity–measures built into everyday society to minimize risks from pests and diseases–is an important aspect of managing epidemics and *** aimed to identify societal options for reducing the transmission and spread of respiratory *** used SARS-CoV-2(severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2)as a case study to meet the immediate need to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually transition to more normal societal conditions,and to catalog options for managing similar pandemics in the *** used a‘solution scanning’*** read the literature;consulted psychology,public health,medical,and solution scanning experts;crowd-sourced options using social media;and collated comments on a ***,we present a list of 519 possible measures to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission and *** provide a long list of options for policymakers and businesses to consider when designing biosecurity plans to combat SARS-CoV-2 and similar pathogens in the *** also developed an online application to help with this *** encourage testing of actions,documentation of outcomes,revisions to the current list,and the addition of further options.

Preparation of Gold Nanorods of High Quality and High Aspect Ratio

We report the synthesis of gold nanorods （NRs） by seed-mediated growth method. A small amount of different shapes such as triangles, hexagons and a large amount of rods are obtained by varying the proportion of seed to metal salt, adding NaOH to growth solution as well as using the seed solution of CTAb-capped agent. The gold nanorod （NR） formation yield is improved. Meanwhile, the growth mechanism of high yield gold NRs is discussed. The high quality single size NRs can be separated from polydisperse samples using surfactant-assisted nanorod self-assembly. The gold NRs synthesized were characterized by transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and UV-vis spectroscopy.

Our study was carried out to assess the level of noise generated and ground vibrations induced during blasting operations at the Ewekoro limestone quarry in *** achieve this objective,vibro monitor equipment was used to take readings related to noise generated and ground vibrations during all blasting operations that took place in the quarry for a period of one *** well,a digital camera was used to take photographs of residential structures within villages near the *** results obtained indicate that the ground vibration readings fall between 0.5 mm/s and 2.1 mm/s and the noise generated during the blasting operations between 82 db and 89 *** readings when compared with the limits set by FEPA(Federal Environmental Protection Agency) of 5.0 mm/s and 150 db) all fall within the permissible *** the photographs of most structures near the quarry reveal cracks and dilapidated building *** are made on how to sustain and improve current blasting techniques.

MULTISCALE ISSUES IN DNS OF MULTIPHASE FLOWS

Direct numerical simulations （DNS） have now become a well established tool to examine complex multiphase flows. Such flows typically exhibit a large range of scales and it is generally necessary to use different descriptions of the flow depending on the scale that we are examining. Here we discuss multiphase flows from a multiscale perspective. Those include both how DNS are providing insight and understanding for modeling of scales much larger than the ＂dominant scale＂（defined where surface tension, viscous forces or inertia are important）, as well as how DNS are often limited by the need to resolve processes taking place on much smaller scales. both problems can be cast into a language introduced for general classes of multiscale problems and reveal that while the classification may be new, the issues are not.

Modelling of the elastoplastic behaviour of the bio-cemented soils using an extended Modified Cam Clay model

An elastoplastic constitutive model based on the Modified Cam Clay(MCC)model is developed to describe the mechanical behaviour of soils cemented via microbially induced calcite precipitation(MICP).It considers the increase of the elastic stiffness,the change of the yield surface due to MICP cementation and the degradation of calcium carbonate bonds during ***,to capture the typical contraction-dilation transition in MICP soils,the original volumetric hardening rule in the MCC model is modified to a combined deviatoric and volumetric hardening *** model could reproduce a series of drained triaxial tests on MICP-treated soils with different calcium carbonate ***,we carry out a parametric study and observe numerical instability in some *** combination with an analytical analysis,our numerical modelling has identified the benefits and limitations of using MCCbased models in the simulation of MICP-cemented soils,leading to suggestions for further model development.
